Dear Members,

As a football club, we talk a lot about making our people proud to belong. I understand that following yesterday’s result and the season more broadly, we have not achieved that ambition this AFL season.

While there have been moments to celebrate and the progress of our younger players has provided hope, the season in totality has certainly not lived up to our expectations as a football club.

The inconsistency in the team’s performance week to week, and sometimes quarter to quarter, is incredibly frustrating - and everyone whose heart beats true, including myself, are frustrated riding this roller coaster. In the last 24 hours many of you have voiced your disappointment and anger. We understand it and we acknowledge it.

As a former player and now President, I love this football club and I want nothing more than for us to be successful.

We are a proud and ambitious football club and with that comes a responsibility to perform. We are not in the position we want to be right now, however your Board and I are committed to doing everything required to have our AFL program performing at the level we all expect.

Lastly, but importantly, I also want to address a serious matter that occurred yesterday. Following the game, the club became aware of an online post directed at our Senior Coach, Simon Goodwin. While we understand the scrutiny that comes with poor results and the emotional investment people have in our game, what Simon was subjected to was totally unacceptable. No one in our game should ever be made to question their safety as a result of coming to work to do their job. We can accept criticism but disrespect and threatening statements hold no place in our game or society.

Thank you for your support.

Thoughts?

pathetic

club unraveling in real time with people who dont have what it takes for long term success in all areas of the club

Not sure what everyone was expecting. Patience.

10 points for speaking to the members

-10 points for not saying anything

What’s he supposed to say..?

I appreciate the acknowledgement and thought the absence of outward support for Goody as head coach was telling

Outside of addressing the online post; that is a pretty toothless response when some serious action is needed.

An absolute waffle of a letter.

Seems more concerned about Goodwin than the real issue.

I await the likely non outcome of tonight's meeting.

Green by name ..Beige in effect.

The club must have got pounded today with feedback.

Feedback is an interesting way of putting it. I would prefer the term ‘expletive driven abuse’ Gotta feel for the media/membership team today

pretty pointless letter.

unless there is something substantial to announce then best to say nothing i reckon

Would you prefer he didn’t write one? What would you have said instead?

I have to admit I was a little excited when it popped up in my inbox, thought the change was upon us!

These boards went into crazy mode when Roffey was not communicating or been seen. Brad comes in and provides more communication and he is called “pathetic”.

I am angry at where we are at, but there comes a time when anger is pointless.

i was expecting something tomorrow actually. Post board meeting. Give goody the dreaded vote of confidence.

but he said absolutely nothing in the letter, in which case, what was the point?

Didn't give any guarantees, didnt reference the footy dept doing better. Held his powder dry for changes. They were never going to sack a long term coach that quickly

what communication.

a letter that says nothing is not communication

Felt he just needed to say something I guess. Clearly he’s been overwhelmed with feedback and wanted to acknowledge it. I don’t mind it.

Will see what comes now..

Bub, you were one who had a go at Roffey for her silence. How would you like to see the club to approach this?

My question is not about you providing answers. That is not your role.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.

It's Game Day and there are only 5 games to go. Can the Demons find some consistency and form as they stagger towards the finish line of another uninspiring season?
