Pf you need to add using JVR as a second ruckman is destroying his development. He has gone backwards since his first year.

Yep that as well. Please get rid of this misguided coach!

Daisy and the Dees started the AFLW. I'd take her back in a coaching role it a heartbeat at the moment.

She could teach them how to kick or show some ticker.

Sad thing is she probably could.

Fair head for footy.. just sayin'

( better than some )

The line this week is 50 points. A win … yes but we want to show that we don’t relax. Ffs smash them !!

No McGovern. No Reid. Graham. Waterman. Yeo. Allen. All out

Before the AFLW started i lived across the road from the MCG and Daisy was in a promotion with Viney out the front dressed in Melbourne gear. Viney and Daisy were playing kick to kick. Daisy was a 10x times better kick and had more penenetration. It was obvious just watching.

Daisy can kick, win premierships and lead just saying

DubDee. It doesn't worry me how much women want to play football, I don't mind how much they play. What annoys is the amount the AFL is throwing at it. On top they are expanding it too fast the skill pool is stretched way beyond what will give games to watch. we have games with low skill levels that turn into defensive struggles with low scoring. Just develop it at a slower pace then the games might become watchable.

It was terrific seeing him start at the centre bounce for the first few goals the other day. Finally a bit of faith in the kid. He wasn't a superstar in a position he rarely plays, and he was subbed for perhaps the least effectual sub on the list in Spargo. They are absolutely butchering his confidence in real time, and for what? These are dead rubbers, but Goody just has to get minutes into his old favourites come what may while talking rubbish about "being a team in transition".

We have transitioned well into deep decline!

The way WC draft, they could have 5 first round picks and still have no stars.

They have been on the bottom for 5 years and only have Harley Reid to show for it

Hopefully they keep their list manager

Ruben Gibney can play, Elijah Hewitt can play, Harry Edwards will be a decent defender, Jobe Shanahan is going to be a player, but a lot of their kids being asked to shoulder a massive amount of responsibility.

New list manager has a massive task ahead

I came looking for any intelligent conversation about the upcoming game, but as you say the negativity is astounding.

Yeah we’re not were we need to be, but FFS I’ve attended 3 work colleagues funerals in 5 weeks, people need to get some perspective

Ok I have it now. The girls competition is a joke. The money the AFL is wasting on it is beyond scandalous. Their usual virtue signalling.

Mate, i though your were going to spend your time over the next few weeks supporting your grand daughters basketball team

if she was playing footy would you have the same attitude. if she good enough to AFLW would you have the same attitude

i don't why the same dinosaurs (@picket fence you were born in the wrong century) feel the need to pot the women's team when it has absolutely nothing to do with how the men are performing

in fact, the womens team are well coached and show plenty of heart and ticker when they play. I wish the men would show the same care and desire.

I’ve said this before on here, that listening to her when she was on channel 7 she was quite informative where as Nathan Jones added nothing.

It's just a game everyone, sometimes we will be up and sometimes we will be down, that's just how it goes.

I want Dees to win too I liked it when we were good for a change, but hey it will happen again, just gotta clear out the muppets who have had their chance and failed because they are muppets.

Won’t be watching and don’t care about the result, the Dees could win by 100 but it will mean nothing, the damage has already been done. Heading O/S next Friday for a few weeks and will miss the remainder of the H & A season. We actually booked our holiday at the start of the year to be back in time for the last two weeks of the finals because we foolishly thought with our easy draw we were a real chance to be playing finals and if things went our way with our new gameplan….How wrong we were.

Off Topic, but I'll counter that with the fact that it is evident that the money that they are throwing at it feels like it is starting to show (in my view) I was watching the preseason game against the hawks, and remember thinking that the skills of the women are getting significantly better. Comparing the product to 3 or 4 years ago.... it's no comparison.
I am not disagreeing that the expansion might have happened pretty fast and could have been a little slower.

Why should it annoy you that the AFL are throwing money at it? The product will not get good without funding it.

There is a similar argument here in Tas that the new team (if we get it up) should just play out of UTAS Stadium or Blundstone oval.... cos they are there and are 'good enough', but it's not setting the team up for success if you don't give it the best chance TO succeed.

On topic: I thought the first 3 quarters were some of the better quarters we've played all year, sadly I think the players agreed and turned off too fast.
I'll be watching, I suspect that they will play well again for 4 full quarters, but unfortunately it is kinda meaningless, other than pride, and hopefully bringing some experience to some players coming thru.

I just want us to win this game.

My hatred for Westcoast is eternal

West Coast to officially request draft assistance....

Pyke will meet with new AFL football executive Greg Swann this week when the Eagles fly to Melbourne to play the Demons.

While it is highly unlikely the AFL would consider a compensation draft pick at No.2, West Coast will argue for a range of options to be considered for assistance, including but not limited to: An extra draft pick early in the draft; draft picks the club has to trade; more places on the list; extra rookie list places; extra category B list places and the ability to retain players on the category B list for longer.

Just seeing this request by West Coast instantly makes me think we will beat the Eagles by 10 goals, but stranger things have happened like last Sunday arvo.

All good points BDA. I don't want to pot the women who play AFL. It is the way the AFL runs this competition that annoys me. However it should not be part of this discussion. Point taken.

Let's hope they pick a few so we can see if they improve the team. What this season has shown is that we are sadly lacking in player quality once we get past the first dozen players.

I really want them to bring Jefferson back in.

Dry fast deck, against a terribly weak defense, this is a perfect game to get some exposure and confidence into him.

Petty needs to go back to defense, and perhaps release Howes to play a bit higher up and use his skills more. If that means Salem has to come out the backline then so be it. Try him at half forward to help our woeful entries. Or better yet free up Rivers to play midfield.

Just try anything different FFS.

A fellow Melbourne supporter made an Interesting comment to me yesterday. He said JVR is actually a better 2nd ruckman than he is as a KPF. My friends suggestion was that jvr is actually a Ruckman / forward not a KPF.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
