Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

5 Weeks for Danners

I could do the review in 5 minutes.........GONE!

I think we all could after Friday night!

This week against Essendon will really tell us where we are at as a club. If we don't come out all guns blazing them I think that sends us the message that we are not playing for Daniher anymore. I guess you could say that we saw that against Richmond, but this week is even bigger in terms of our future. It said the deadline is the end of July so they can make a decision before that if they come to it.

Five weeks....I would have thought that they'd have enough information collected over the last ten years to make an accurate decision.

What this basically means that if the players can perform ok over the next five weeks then he'll get an extension, doesn't matter that the season has already gone, yet another wasted one. But now Daniher will obviously put in team's to win games, not to build for the future. What's the [censored] point of that? We've already been horribly exposed up fprward when Neitz isn't playing, why would Daniher even try to build for the future when he's coaching for his job.

In a previous thread I stated that Daniher will be coaching for himself and not the team for the rest of the season, now the board has just confirmed it, terrible decision for the team and the future.

With respect to the idea that the boys need to get up for Danners; I have a real problem with this whole scenario.. Why ....WHY ..does it take a calalmity of sorts.. , a coaching crisis for our boys to get up and play a game to the ability and standard that they ought to be ANYWAY !!!

So what happens afterwards...after all the hype etc.

This is just all wrong !!

Exactly. It's a weakness that it takes a crisis for our boys to get up and play.

You should be on your game regardless of the situation.

Mark my words, we will win Friday night.

Ppl will think it'll great and the playas really do luv ND but to me,

it'll be a sad indictment on our club. That we can actually beat any team in the comp but we can't turn it up against the bottom team.

I think the horse has already bolted, regardless of how we go in the last 10 rounds. I can't see any reason why Daniher will keep his job. If we win plenty of games now, to me, it means nothing as the pressure of finals footy is way off for us now. It was even when we were 0-9 to be honest. We need a change, it's as simple as that.

Spot On, We most likely will put in a good performance against the dons, but thats generally what has happened in the past.

This is the main reason why I believe ND has to go because it has happened throughout his time as coach.

2 years ago when we played Geelong when White had his face smashed in we were on par with the Cats, Right now they have gone forward and improved and we are still playing the same. ND assessment of finals failure mentioned how we have to be more ruthless yet I havent seen anything to suggest we have improved in that area.

ND has been good for the club and deserves some credit, but his time is up.

Sack the coach & everything will be rosy.

But - let's just think about the situation a little more.

Let's just look at a few of the our playing group.

Does the coach tell Robbo to go out and fly for every speccie he can? Does he tell him to go to ground after every contest, so there is no chance of a second effort? Does he tell him not to play like David Neitz and throw himself in to help a team mate?

I doubt it. This is Robbo's mindset. He kicks seven against a second rate Collingwood defense but he can't get a kick against an even younger Richmond defense. Why?

Does he start Bruce ,Davey ,TJ in a run with role or on the bench because our midfield is so rich with talent?

I doubt it. The fact is these guys are too easily taken out of the game by a hard tag.

Why is Brad Green brilliant one week and then unsighted for weeks at a time?

Does he drop these guys? Who does he replace them with?

I have highlighted some players here as examples.

They are by no means solely responsible but - these are the guys who should be winning games for us. They are the core of experienced talent at the club.

I fail to see how coaching can effect their performance dramatically at this point in their careers.

Fact is, a large number of our playing group perform like millionaires.

They show little passion for OUR club, OUR jumper or THEIR team mates.

We need more Simon Godfreys - never drop the head - never give less than 100%. Let's face it, superb skills are useless if you can't get the ball.

So that's my rant. Keep the coach. Cull the list.

So who is to blame for the list the way it is?

Who is accountable for that?

There isn't a quick fix......you're right......it's not a "sack the coach fix the problem" but the footy dept needs a complete review, and a process out in place to make sure what needs to be done is done!

We already know Daniher has the final call on which players play every week........does that also mean he has the final say on all football dept issues?

Perhaps we have another Grant Thomas situation on our hands......too much control by one person. Whatever the case, it needs to be reviewed and sorted out, because I for one don't want to keep turning up and watching slop each week.

If we beat Essendon it proves further that we're under-performing, that we're mentally weak, that we only fight when our backs are against the wall, that we get too far ahead of ourselves and that Daniher has to go.

This week has nothing to do with anyone's future.

Gary was right, just as you don't sack a coach based on one loss, you don't reappoint them based on one win.

So following your line of argument, these senior players aren't up to it.

Logically, we then need to question why they are still here. I have no doubt many of the players you have mentioned - Robertson, Green, Bruce - would have been worth something in a trade before now, but 'we' chose to keep these players.

If they are not good enough, who is responsible for keeping them here? To put it into perspective, ND had been MFC coach for a few years before Green debuted, and Robertson was ~19 when ND started at Melbourne.

It would be good if Rama was able to make his way into the bumber side this week. As it would really give them a spark, and it would truly ask our players to give 200% this week in order to at least compete, let alone win.

With Rama in the team it would make it that much harder to win the game. Both teams would have something to play for (besides staying in the top 4 for the bumbers). It will really test us to see where we are at.

I too think it is pathetic that it takes the coaches head on the chopping block for us to perform. We have been there all too often, which really shows that although the club is trying to change its softness, it really hasn't.

It is even worse now that as stated, Daniher will be coaching for his job, not coaching for the MFC's interests next year and development of the younger players. To me it is so very clear, we rated ourselves a good chance to make top 4, now we won't even make the 8. A huge step backwards, which can only result in 1 thing. A NEW COACH

Stuff the review, Daniher should go at the end of the year, regardless of any further results. And don't list injuries as an excuse. St. Kilda have been plagued by them for over 3 years now, but look what they can do (win at Perth). 10 years of Daniher reign is enough. If he is kept, we will be having the same arguments next year or god forbid in another 2 or 3 years time.

Sums up the situation beautifully.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
