We are selecting with 2026 list and style in mind and balancing being competitive not just playing kids for kids sake.

TMac going out allowed Turner to go back and he has blossomed. It will be interesting this week to see with Lever out and Petty available what happens with TMac though.

Be ready for the meltdown when Tmac is dropped again and Petty plays back

Largely Agree Re T Mac Vs Lever. I understood the rationale at the time, but in hindsight, it was a bit of a punt that didn't pay off. Lever has looked underdone and struggled to get back to his best form since he returned. Also at the time T Mac was dropped, we still had a sniff of finals in our season and he just might have made enough difference to get us a few more wins and we'd still be in it. But everything is clear and beautiful in hindsight hey.

The calculation these days is that quality players like Lever, Viney, Trac etc don't usually need a run in the twos to get back in form, but I do wounder if it wouldn't be a prudent move sometimes in marginal circumstances.

It's also somewhat disappointing that T Mac may well not get the opportunity to get to 250 games, when in alot of ways I think he deserves that honour, but will likely fall just a few short.

Conversely I'd also like to see Adams blooded before the season is out.

Tmac was dropped to let Disco play back. It was never Tmac or Lever.

Goody said on SEN that Petty has missed four weeks and will return via Casey, so that’s Lever, Spaz and Petty out, so TMac should stay in and perhaps Howes replaces Rick??

Selection is based on who Goody thinks is going to be part of our next flag tilt.

So Windsor, Lindsay & Kolt stay in despite weeks of poor form plus Goodie's mate Sharp gets promoted while Howes & Billings can't get a sniff.

All looks pretty fair to me.

Changes are like for like - In May & Sharp Out Lever & Sparrow (both injured).

Can’t see Sparrow and Sharp being like for like.

Both hhf’s cf. Tom is more solidly built and Harry is a lot faster and can both kick goals.👍😁

Impressed with the changes

Thought for sure Petty would come straight back in

Goody keeps his favourites out it seems

Billings and Howes’ form for the demons has been terrible

Play youth and look to next year

Howes has a future but we don’t need another defender in

We’ve got to get Tmac to two fiddy

Unfortunately, even if he played every remaining game this season he’d end the year on 249.

Selection integrity is for losers.

We’ve seen what Billings has done at afl for over a decade.

I’d give it 15 minutes in to any game he plays for everyone to wonder why on earth we’ve picked Billings.

Seems like Billings slaughters the VFL but just can't reproduce the same stuff in the Seniors. A bit like Laurie.

Maybe, but seems T Mac, May and Disco can all play in the same team - well at least sometimes (Carltons plethora of tall forwards may have something to do with it).

Shane Wane played 6 state games for Victoria before he was selected for Australia despite his fotm not warranting selection. He was completely out of his depth when he made the Australian side and got belted all over the ground. That turned out pretty well in the end.

Selecting for the future can be wise even if it's not the best for short term outcomes.

If Koltyn turns into the equivalent of Warnie then we all owe you a beer

Carlton has a plethora of tall forwards? They had to play TDK up forward last week because McKay is out - Voss rationailsing the move claiming that Pittonet is in "great form" and so shall play the main ruck role......

That really sucks. He is one player who really really deserves to get to 250, having been through it all, the worst of the worst and the absolute highest of highs.

Stuck it out in the worst defense in a side getting smashed by 100 points a week, to kicking a goal after the siren in our grand final win, back to filling gaps in defense.

He is criminally underrated is Tom. Pick 57 to nearly 250 games and a premiership, is almost unheard of.

Not sure there is selection integrity, I think like anything it’s favorites.

Tmac was our best defender all year until dropped for no good reason, and despite great performances in the twos, and the ones players not performing, it took injuries to bring him up.

I think that needs to be looked at.

Without knowing the selection criteria each week - which none of us do - you cannot claim their isn’t any selection integrity. I’m sure there are many good reasons why one player is or isn’t selected - and certainly no ridiculous reasons like “playing favourites”. Nothing can, or needs to be “looked at”.

I wonder how much selection integrity counts towards team cohesion & confidence in the coaching group.

Most supporters were perplexed when Tom McDonald was dropped despite solid form.

The continued selection of Windsor & Tholstrup despite playing poorly is also mystifying & it looks like Lindsay needs a rest as well.

I'm not a fan of Jack Billiings but after a month of good form at Casey it's hard to understand why he is not selected.

Billings is just a good VFL player.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
