But not guilty enough to quit posting in this thread you started. You don’t feel “a bit guilty” - you clearly don’t feel guilty at all. Why bother posting something so insincere?

You’re not displaying magnanimity, you’re displaying patronisation.

Oh and as for Kolt feeling 💩 after reading it… he wouldn’t give a fat rat’s. His family members and/or friends might, but he wouldn’t.

And now I have the resident weirdo chasing me online. great

Good point you raise. Interupted pre seasons make it hard for any players let alone young players to make an impact.

Having said that our season from here is balancing wins with getting games into young players Kolt being one of them.

I would also like to see Jeffo get a few more games this year.

Alot better by Jeffo today, must tidy up his goal kicking routine though.

Also hit the weights in the off season.

I'd suggest a call to Riley Thilthorpe and asked what his weights program looks like.

I think this is a grade call and didn't think of it this way. The HHF role requires a massive tank and i think he struggles to cover the ground to have that impact given limited pre-season and limited senior afl footy tank being a second year player.

However, with the footy, he has shown that he can finish, but is still a little fumbly as others have called out. Hopefully another pre-season or two

Surely the wing requires a bigger tank than HFF? It could be a good education for him, but Langdon and Langford are much better there and he really struggles to mark the ball in transition which is a huge part of our wing play right now. So often we get it to him and he drops it or makes heavy weather of a chase.

Cant fault his intensity; liked the scuffle he started and great goal but needs to get the ball more. A tad slow.

Started the scuffle and dropped easy chest mark not long after due to lack of stamina i presume. He looked foolish with his fake anger and misused energy

He's playing the absolute worst role in footy (as does Sparrow) on the half forward line where you're constantly out numbered and running constant 100m sprints up and down the ground and then horizontally as well with bugger all touches of the pill.

It's brutal and can be so unrewarding and you really need to ensure every small chance you get that you take.

I'm not excited by Tholstrup at the moment, but this is an excellent post.

I don't think you can underestimate just how bad we are at lowering our eyes and finding a leading target. Inside 50 it's very obvious, but it happens further up the ground as well.

I'm not worried about Kolt. Doesn't mean I think he'll make it, but I think it's too early and I still don't mind his selection: he's a high ceiling, low floor candidate.

He was injured preseason, and deserves a bit of time to get fitness right and find his spot in the system before we write him off.

He has had so many "maybe moments" where he has fumbled or spilt a mark or not been clean with his one touch. It's not what he showed in his under highlights, where he was clean with good hands and strong overhead for his size (I know they are cherry picked highlights).

I don't know if that will translate to AFL level; maybe the extra speed and size and pressure means he is at his limit. But I still think he has attributes that will be valuable if he makes it, and for those reasons I am happy we are giving him a go.

I do think he could use time at Casey to really get on top of the pace of the game but I'm not sure who comes in for him as a half forward. Billings? Sharp? Spargo? Are the only options. So I'm happy they are backing in a kid.

Kolt and Caleb are suffering 2nd year blues, after injuries.

The will be better next year, hopefully injury free and after good pre seasons.

They don’t have to be stars at 20.

I love his aggression and willingness to get stuck into his opponents. We need that

Almost 50 days since our last win, we get up and snap a 5 game losing streak but now we have 4 new pages largely writing off a young player playing his 17th game for the club.
Wasn't the greatest performance by any means but we're not doing anything this season, give him some time and a proper pre-season before you get the swords out.

Another really disappointing game. As said previously, he is not fit enough so doesn't get to enough contests, doesn't read the play well enough so is consistently in the wrong position and makes simple skill and decision making errors (may also be linked to fitness issues). Having spunk and attitude are great, but you need to be able to back it up - he is not at this point. Only 1 tackle as well, so not sure about this great defensive workrate that others are praising.

We're just not doing him any favours by persisting with him in this role at AFL level. Has to go back to Casey and get his hands on the ball regularly for a month.

Jeff is gonna be our Smiling Assassin in two years. He's got the smarts.

I love how we want to throw this kid out as a bust, yet rave about Neale-Bullen. People laud what he brought to the club in the last 4 years at the Dees, BUT in his entire 192 games at the Dees, he averaged only 15.79 possessions. And in his first 15 games, it was just over 10! The Kolt is at 9.88. Based on these stats, ANB would have been GAWNE a long time before he grew into his role.

Unfortunately, our supporters think patience is only applicable for hospitals.

And he very nearly was. Before he became the player most supporters were devastated to lose, he was told by the FD he'd be best to explore options for a trade.

Kolt, Brown, and Windsor are all having the same problem – they are too worried about what they are going to do with the ball before they get it.

They are taking their eyes off the ball before they have controlled it completely. That leads to fumbling and inviting added pressure which makes things more difficult.

Get them into some meditation and Zen thoughts to be in the moment.

I reckon this is the difference between everyone in the massive disposal category most players fall into (somewhere between terrible and good) and the very best ball users. For anyone who's not great (I hate the word elite), there's a period of cog-turning between realising you're a chance to get the footy and getting rid of it. For the best, that cognitive processing is so fast it seems like it doesn't happen.

The great thing about "just get it on the boot" or "blast it down the line" is it dispenses with the need for that processing. In 2021 it gave poor or average disposers freedom to concentrate much more on getting it. What to do with it? That was a problem passed on to Max Gawn, Ben Brown, Tom McDonald and Bayley Fritsch.

Now our players are being asked not to do that anymore, and many are finding it difficult to adjust. (I know that doesn't explain Tholstrup and Windsor, but this post is a bit of a tangent.) Some will get there. Others just aren't naturally good at it. I keep thinking, though, that Tom McDonald shows you don't need to massively improve your kicking to massively improve your effectiveness.

He is comfortably one of the worst technical field kicks I've seen. But the disastrous turnovers have almost completely dried up, and not just because he went forward and spent a lot of time kicking at goals rather than players. He's dependable in the backline as well. In great part, I think, it's about playing within limitations. Where previously he would attempt to bite off kicks Aaron Davey couldn't make, now he takes the safe, although not always completely conservative, option.

I'm sure you can get better at making quicker, better decisions. But for some players, it might be best to demand that they play within their limitations - look for the handball or the easy sideways kick to a better disposer - than hoping they'll increase the speed of their cog-turning.

I feel he can become our own pest, he annoys the opposition. Ego a bit ahead of ability for now but each year he will get stronger and opposition mids will get older. Hes going to be a good one.

Let’s accept we are not making finals and get as much experience into guys like Kolt as we can. I do t care if he’s tired or can’t run too much. All a learning as to how fit and strong he needs to get.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
