Do a bit of googling with Caroline Wilson. He was strongly favoured by AFL HQ too. Just as Peter Jackson was back in the day.

Instead we got a guy with no footy background at all.

Guerra just has to land Caulfield to get a statue, thatโ€™s it.

A CEO is basically the business manager and he has to be good at running the business.

We have seen โ€œfan boysโ€ and โ€œwanna be coachesโ€ before and a good footy CEO doesnโ€™t necessarily have to be an ex jock and if you have a good FD boss, who can run the FD well and report to the CEO, that may be a better result.

Think Cameron Schwab and the whiteboard.

I agree that a new home base is Priority No. 1 for the incoming CEO. Who makes the footy department decisions in the next few months? - in the decisive way that Peter Jackson did back in 2013. Will it be the Board, the acting CEO, Alan Richardson.....?

How do you know what business acumen I have? Some full on tossers here who keep barking the same condescending tripe.

The incoming CEO has a project to Finish, why should he leave a job half done, when it was the MFC who contacted him?

We have a perfectly good interum CEO till September

Not just a โ€˜government jobโ€™ friend, he is head of VECCI who are hosting the World Chambers Congress in September, hence why he canโ€™t just step away and heโ€™d be burning some big bridges if he did - the opposite of what youโ€™d want someone in his position to be doing.

Should be using the six months lining up some new sponsors of MFC via World Chambers Congress attendees!

I put in a personal request to him re his priorities - fix the goalkicking!!!!

What a fuss about nothing in this thread. I bet if the team was winning this thread wouldn't have even appeared.

Wouldn't count on it.

Demonland, where there's always something to [censored] about.

The inability to google something before demanding answers and a pound of flesh is something of a clue.

Cameron Schwabb was even more strongly favoured by the AFL. That ended up well!

It is kind of funny how the old CEO was/is still part of the project and the new CEO hasn't started yet but is doing work on it as well

I saw our incoming CEO at the footy today.

Casual guy in his jeans, runners & Melbourne jacket.

But some people recognised him because they stopped him for a chat which he was happy to do

I think (hope) that we are not so incompetent that we can't pick a decent CEO and President.

Just a waiting game.

No, we have never been and never will be that incompetent.

He's not MIA. He comes down to the front of N53 and sits with some people he knows for a quarter or two each home game.

My god this thread is ridiculous. Itโ€™s ok that you donโ€™t understand how transitioning from executive roles actually works, but for your own sake stop digging yourself further into this hole of stupidity you find yourself in

Was standing underneath at bottom of the race in team kit before players came out

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
