CASEY: Rd 10 vs Sydney Swans

Featured Replies

It's been a while since I travelled to Sydney and I'm not heading there on Saturday but the Casey Demons will be doing just that. The game is on Saturday afternoon at the quaintly named Tramway Oval which is opposite the SCG. I can't remember any tramway in the vicinity from the last time I was there and nor do I know why the game could not have been played yesterday at Casey given that the MFC played the Swans in Melbourne. That way, Melbourne in fans could have enjoyed one local game next week. Don't try to understand how the VFL fixture works.

So true

A pity they couldn't play a curtain raiser in the Red Centre or as you say at Casey

KC there were trams in Sydney up until the early sixties. Have you heard the expression " off like a Bondi tram". Everything to do with how the VFL is run leaves me in wonderment. It is very poorly run.

I assume with JVR travelling with the AFL team to Alice after replacing Bill as an emergency he’ll be out of the Casey squad?

In some ways that makes this team more balanced. Allows us to play Verrall, Fullo and Jefferson through the forward line which feels like a bit more of an opportunity for them to do well. Go Casey!

Bailey Laurie will definitely be going to Alice Springs now that he’s replaced Jack Viney in the Melbourne team while it’s also possible that the club is taking the new emergency JvR there as well so expect some changes.

Sadly, nobody is funding a ticket for me and therefore I will be watching the stream on the AFL site. I’ll be on this thread intermittently to provide scores.

I’d be very surprised if they hold over 3 players for the senior team. Seems much more likely to be just Henderson and Adams (one tall, one small).

Tyler Edwards quality player on the periphery with so many MFC listed players prioritised. Tom Freeman also listed an emergency. A determined defender not afraid of the hard ball. Both worthy of inclusion IMHO.

Bailey Laurie will play v Saints

JVR, Henderson & Adams all travel for the frequent flyer points. Last minute changes in an interstate trip … last one was never!!!

Like to see Edwards and Freeman added to the team.

NSW Demons are going to watch the game today. Our first opportunity to support Matthew Jefferson, our sponsored player and the rest of the Dees and Casey boys this year.

Wear your colors and see you there - it will be great to see the red and the blue out to support the team.

Look forward to your on the spot reporting. 😃

Still can't believe TMac is in this team - and Adams was named ahead of him in the firsts!!

The good thing is that perhaps he can help educate Kentfield. I don't know whether Luker will make it but with his size, if he learns to play the role of KPF well he could become a real asset to us.

Im filthy on T Mac playing ressies! He has been in sensational form and didn't deserve the axe!

Why take a guy with a young family interstate for no reason when you can just use Adam's as an emergency instead?

It's tough with Tmac for sure.

I mean you definitely want a fit and firing Lever in the firsts but given Tmac reinventing himself as the invention he used to be and the form he's shown, I feel conflicted about it.

I also don't think I want to see Turner playing forward anymore which is really the only way we could accommodate them all.

But it's not that unsound to try. May forward is something I have always wanted to see though. And probably a solution of sorts. And I think May has not been his best this year. Not bad, but not the bloke that would take ten grabs. That bloke seems to be Disco now. Just saying.

I'm hoping Jvr and Jeffo dominate today so we have more selection "problems"

may + lever = our best tall back duo

turner is learning on the job, just as petty did in 2021

plugger mac is there to solve the holes when they appear down back

quite frankly, if it means he never gets back into the back 6 at afl level in 2025 and beyond then so be it; means our preferred defensive structure of 2 experienced + 1 L-plater is doing its job

Any truth in the rumours you are reporting from your studio in South Melbourne?

They both probably have to find their groove together again . But they have previously been the reason for our success, denying teams from scoring. Always enjoy hearing Lever shout out directions to everyone. May has frequently played against best opposition forwards so you can't always easily compare defenders.

But I think a little more credit for Turner is warranted these days. And your right he's probably still learning but I rate him him currently as at least as good as the other two at present.

Turner is now our best key position player at either end.

The club clearly wanted to make sue TMac played a game and he couldn’t be emergency and play this weekend given the schedule. Not being an emergency was no indication of where he stands in the pecking order.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

Kozzy Pickett was the man of the match last week and has a vote lead over backup ruck Max Heath who didn't play this week and 5 votes over former Saint Jack Steele. Who gets the votes in this weeks shortened match win over the Tigers? Your votes please. 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1.

It's Game Day and the 2026 AFL Premiership season is almost upon us as the Demons take to the field for their final practice match before the first ball is kicked in anger in 16 days time. What are you expecting to see from the Dees today as they take on the Tigers at Mars Stadium in Ballarat?
