For anyone being critical of Fox Footy commentary especially Dermie, just remember that they weren't even at the ground calling the game.

They called it from their Fox studios in South Melbourne.

Wow, is that a thing? I might be naive, but didn’t realise that they called from studios (only in Covid times)

I think AJ is what the team needs right now so I'm happy for him to be in the side. Kozzie's acceleration from a standing start is ridiculous. As for Maximus I'm going to savour every moment this guy pulls on our jumper as we'll probably never see anyone like him again.

They have been in the city and around the Yarra for the past 10 days.

Usually these cockatoos come into the city when the country side has dried out.

My guess is that some consistent rains and they will be back to the bush.

I can say I've not seen them much my way in last few months, and we have them around us all the time.

And the ground out my way is still cracked and dry, I havent mowed the lawn in months, prob should check the battery on the ride-on come to think of it... ha ha

Had the pleasure of watching AJ up close and personal for two quarters and geez he’s impressive. He does not hold back, he’s a brute of a player and while he didn’t get the glory and adulation given to our goal-kickers, he deserves it just as much since he was instrumental in some of those goals. I really hope we keep him in the side.

I'm calling him the "Wrecking Bald"!!

It's been a thing with interstate games but didn't realise they would stoop to this low.

I wonder if Kossie is going to practice kicking barrels for goal after that effort in the 2nd that went at 45 degrees an OOB 😂

Ok I'll play... Can A.J Play??

Answer NO!

End of penny section!

No... not good enough Mr Fence.

You said " he's not the answer " ... that infers something different ( imo )

Maybe I can enlighten. We've all moaned for a long time that our forward arc game needs a lot of sorting out. Now putting aside some of that ridiculous ( and simply dumb ) goal kicking ( attempts ) our front game seemed a lot more purposeful today. We didn't seem nearly as wasteful of opportunity . By that I saw we were able to do a lot more , creatively, with our possessions.

Often it's observed that good teams have good smaller teams ( teamsets ) operating within the larger overall effort. Mids, backs, forwards etc... and the way they interact within and with the other parts of the game. Now even the best, most powerful and shiny V8s still have some very basic parts making up the package. Their role is simple but they require great strength and stability. They just need to work, they aren't pretty.

That's AJ

Anyone got a picture of the flock? (I'll forgive you for not looking at the footy when you smapped it.)

6 possesions in the modern game, seriously??????? You and others hang ur hat on a so called tough guy, coz as supporters we yearn for the Rod Grinter/ Byron Pickett type.... but this bloke aint it PERIOD! GO rubbish urself!

PF, what’s this sudden obsession you have with possessions? AJ’s pressure acts yesterday netted four goals (I believe it was); he may not be taking speccies or busting packs, ball in hand, turning on a dime and kicking a goal from deep in the pocket, but he’s ending up with the same result (a goal) by simply pressuring his opponent and putting in second and third efforts.

And while we’re on the subject of possessions, where were these comments when Jeffo (who I like by the way), was getting next to no possessions and no scores to at least make his time on the field worthwhile? You NEVER had a bad word for him, yet he WAS failing badly as a key forward. Consistency please.

The best named player, and one that doesn’t need a nick name, is Baldi at Casey. And he’s not a bad player, either.

If you do not look gods player eg Spargo or AJ. Then you overlook any thing they do.

Mills thought Spargo was worth thumping and did you see AJ tap the ball to the ground in front of Kossy (?). Who goaled but AJ ran past him at speed and created clear space. Like a wrecking ball.

Sorry had not read DeeBloods description

Johnson had a game player rating of -2.5. He looks like he isn’t skilled enough for AFL.

Shame he dropped the chest mark 25m out but I think you are being harsh. He crashes packs like TMac used to do back in 2019/20. Its really important for our small fwds and there are no stats for it. He gives max a decent chop out as well.

Having said that I wouldn't mind seeing what Campbell has got..

Love those photos the team seems very united and having fun and just enjoying their footy, all parts of it. Good vibes about this team and what we're building.

So proud of the boys, still not sure about AJ he seemed like a liability in a lot of ways and skills aren't there like others but he does seem to bring something and if he frees up Max and the other big fellas from having to ruck duties then that's a good thing...hey he's been in the side two weeks now and we've had two very excellent wins, so something is working.

Very enjoyable win, and loving seeing the big guns back to their best especially Clarry when he kicked that goal that had to be right up there with my favorite footy moment for a long time, both our teams reaction to him and the crowd, just love it so much joy and support for Clarry it really spoke volumes.

Sixty years ago we would have said “we kicked the sweep”. Does anyone else remember that?

Yep, it was always a feature top right hand corner of the front page of the Saturday Evening Pink Paper Sporting Globe Final Edition, along with the lowest score of the day, providing just that little bit of extra glory to "kick the sweep" when all games were played on Saturday arvo and the die-hards at the MCG stayed back to see the scores from the other games get posted up on the scoreboard so we could work out the team percentage before going home to watch the replay and buy the "Globe", read the match report, and then suck it all up again on Sunday Morning with World of Sport!!

That's when journos really earnt their money!!!

Anyone remember that ???

Playing with confidence in the new system. Asa result their is less skill error as player dont second guess where to go. Good to see it in practice against a good defensive side.

Plus the team pressure is back. Great to see.

I think this is really Important- ie the system becoming more instinctive and players carrying out their role in terms of method and structure.

You can see with the pies how critical a rock solid system that all players know instinctively is.

They have been using their system, with tweaks of course, since the start of the 2022 season. It takes time to embed a new system, particularly when senior players have spent years embedding a different one.

On that point, kudos must go to our core senior players for adapting so effectively in the last few weeks. Take claz. It's so evident that he is really trying to be be more judicious with his kicks, only bombing it long when that's the right and/or only option. Ditto for tracc.

Sure, AJ is no world beater, but the physicality, effort and pressure he brings cannot be denied.

100% This. It’s all you expect of your players and AJ is playing his role. It’s why I hope he is first player named on the team sheet for the Kings Birthday game. Unleash AJ and Unleash Hell.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.
