Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I've seen him at Sandringham this year and, on his performances, I'd play him this week in the absence of David Neitz and alongside Russell Robertson.

However, I don't think it will happen because this year Neale Daniher has been flagging the selection of a new player on the melbournefc.com.au site early in the week and it hasn't happened yet. I agree that the club will go safe and conservative and probably include Miller or Dunn in Neita's place.

To be honest I don't see the selection Newton just being a selection for the future.

I see it as being a selection that is rewarding a player who has shown good form at VFL level and can add something to the team.

I believe that Daniher is coaching for Daniher and not what is the best for the club.

Based on what you have written your probably right, however imagine if you are on the selection committee, your object is to win and have the best 22 on the field, would you still go for newton or for Pickett, I heart tells me Newton but my head says that Byron is in front. Maybe he can replace Frawley

I'd have Pickett in for Johnstone and Newton in for Neitz.

Pickett would come in for someone else as I'm certain Doggie will play because he didn't play for Sandy.

I've been a big fan of Juice but also a massive critic but from what i've seen, he's getting his game together.

He's been lacking in intensity in the past and unwilling to do the work/ one percenters but he looks to be trying to do the right things lately.

He still goes for the spectacular way too often but he's doing the hard yards n i'm happy with that balance.

Bring on Juice Friday nite.

don't be silly of course he is. there hasnt been so much talk about a kid before he had played a game since jesus ;)

then if and when he has a bad day or couple of weeks we can crucify him on here.... it all fits!

BIG RED SIGNING IN:

I am a massive Newton fan have seen him play 4 times this year including last weekend as well as numerous times last year. The kid is all talent but still looks immature of mind. He missed a goal from 20 metres out on a reasonable angle with a wet ball and you could see his mind was off the game for the next 10-15 minutes whilst he kept cajoling himself over the miss. I want to see the kid play for Melbourne more than I have looked forward to any debutant that I can recall in recent years but the timing is very important. The last thing you want is to bring him up too early, not get a kick and then dent his confidence at Sandy. The kid will play but lets make sure he also believes he is ready.

interesting point you make BRFE. i wonder if the plan for newtons promotion could also involve 'him' being ready. could the footy dept have said 'tell us when you think you're ready to take that step and then we'll consider you'? maybe not in so many words or explicitly, but could newton have some say in the process given his apparent issues...

Didn't you think that Newton should have played after about Round 4 or 5?

Not at that stage nor do I think he must be played now. He is kicking goals consistently at VFL level which would make him believe he is good enough to play there. I would like to see him bag a couple more big hauls (6+ goal games) or truly dominate a couple of games. The most dominant I have seen him was about 4 weeks ago when he played across half forward and kicked 2.6. Once he is dominating at that level then bring him up. There is no rush...he will debut and if he lives up to his potential it will be well worth the wait.

I have to agree with you on this point. There is no rush, and we are better off keeping him in the VFL a little while longer until he is truly ready, than promoting him and stuffing up a 3 year plan to develop him.

He isn't going anywhere, he is signed up for next year, and he is only 20. The hysteria surrounding his debut is quite amusing, but I guess in such a horrible year, we need to have something to look forward to.

For what it's worth, I had a dream that Newton finally made his debut against the Pies, was on the bench for the entire match then Daniher brought him on with 6 minutes to go, he fluffed his only kick, and we lost the match. :o <_<

Yeah, that a whole lot of other Melbourne- related issues ;)

If we lose to Richmond tomorrow, the therapist will have to climb up Light-Tower #4 to try and stop me from jumping.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
