Not quite, Mr Round Objects.

We swapped our 2025 first rounder for their 2024 first rounder and used that pick on Xavier Lindsay.

Bomber fans are enjoying the death ride this year and look like gaining a high draft pick out of the deal.

However, in an apparently weakish draft with many Academy/NGA selections, we already have Lindsay on our books with a year of development under his belt.

They also did it so they wouldn't have to use a first round pick to match a bid for Kako

Ah, I see. Regardless, their pick still being tied to our lader position does put some imperative to finishing as high as possible regardless of making finals or not.

Having Lindsay with a year of development is already a victory I agree. I think we've usually done pretty well with Taylor trading up the order.

What really p#sses me off is that, after some injury-affected seasons, we now have virtually a full and fit roster to choose from and we are playing like the Oodnogalarbi Thirds.

Well definitely the 4th of 3 as it were.

They're not travelling quite as good as a month ago .Like us showing a fondness for backward scorelines of late. I don't think we will beat them.but we might. As I explained elsewhere, only have to do a couple of things better and our game changes. Reverse our scoring and Tighten up defence by 2 to 3 goals..

Will we 🙄🤔🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Unlikely but possible

Probable ?...probably not... but we could if minds and bodies aligned.

Selection and Structure are key.

Be happy to re-comment upon team announcements.

Your query is definitely valid 👍😆

I'm also talking through my pocket - getting 4.20 odds for the Pies was very juicy and I felt a genuine chance around that one

Not worth the 3.00 on offer now

Currently, they have more winners than us

Honestly I don't think enough credit has been given to our draft/trading team for this, they knew this year was going to be highly compromised and by all reports weaker. Compare that to last season where it was a well rated draft, and we picked up Langford and Lindsay. I obviously want us to finish as high as possible to diminish Essendon's position, but the truth is that it makes little difference to us.

Ultimately, I just want us to get as many wins as possible and launch into next season with some solid foundations.

That's the ultimate salt in the wounds. One of our best mid season injury lists we've had in decades and we'll probably be 5-11 after the Adelaide game. What a waste.

This factor should be strongly considered when important decisions are made later in the year.

Except for the fact that the full deal was:

Melbourne give: 2025 first round pick (currently #4, but more likely to be 7-8 with academy selections); 2024 pick 28, pick 40, pick 46, pick 54, pick 65.

Essendon give: 2025 third round pick (on-traded in Sharp deal); 2024 pick 9 (Xavier Lindsay).

I have no issue with giving up 2025 round 1 plus a sweetener for Lindsay, but some of those picks could have had some value to us either as selections in 2024 or to get back in to the 2025 draft. The reality is that Essendon already had incentive to trade away their 2024 round 1 pick, so were hardly reluctant trade partners.

I am going to Marvel very rare on the 19th July courtesy Medallion club friends invitation

Really looking forward to smashing Carlton

Probably we will run them back into form though Just never know

Probably the only game Voss is looking forward to.

We ought to be, but we know better 😉

Others with better knowledge can confirm this but I understand we didn't have the list spots in 24. So your suggestion would have meant swapping out later 24 picks for picks in 25 in a supposedly weak draft. Not great perhaps.

The reality is we have got 4 first round picks in 2 years which, if we had been playing reasonable football would have been seen as a masterstroke. It has been clouded by the fact we are playing terrible footy with virtually a full list.

That's the real problem

i think we only have two picks this year so white, our nga guy and yze- one of which will come in the rookie draft so doesn't really make sense to have any other when we can keep them for the future when we need to for all the nga's and father son's coming in. i think and id hope as well we are looking at a lot of ins for free agency. billings, fullerton, henderson and tmac probably going so a few spots for the likes of our mate at gws, Ollie lord, callum brown and maybe bergman even though i dont rate him at all

I wasn't sure where to put this, but it will be interesting to track this over the rest of the season.

I haven't given up on playing finals in 2025 and although we don't look fit enough, if we can start to take more of our chances in front of goal (a big if), we'll be in most games with our new method. Do that and we give ourselves a chance of playing finals.

Here is the 2024 ladder at the end of Round 10. Notice Hawthorn...

And here is the 2025 ladder at the start of Round 10. Notice our percentage.

1000015771.jpg

So media darlings, Hawthorn, were 3-7 with a worse percentage after this round and made a Semi Final.

The players have started to believe in the system and back in their team mates. There'll be ups and downs this year, but the overall trajectory, IMV, will be upward.

And the main point? There's plenty of time left in this season. We're not dead yet.

Sooo.. have you now?

Were really gonna try to call out an opinion/thought that made a tonne of sense at the time it was written and was entirely feasible? Weird move…

I didn’t mean it in a spate of being rude, I am seeing if there is any optimism there, because I’ve lost all of it for this year.

Oh—apologies I misunderstood! Yeah…we’re cooked.

Nah, all good. I see what you mean. Context wasn’t there so it looked rude.

Now we are well cooked.

Goody will still be coach, probably, barring a couple of games like our first quarter today.

So we will have a new coach half way through 26. Unless we win 10 out of 12 say.

So who stays. Veterans to teach the young guys

Melky

Gawn n Viney

May ( I think) n TMac

Keep the young guys. Keep older stars but

Lever, Rivers, Langdon, Sparrow, Petty, Frittata, Chandler , Salem are on shaky ground.

Trade able

Others In my view only, and in no order,

Laurie, Jefferson, Henderson , Fullerton,

Delist or trade

Find someone to give advice to Goody and to be strategic , I do not think we have anyone who does st this time And a goal kicking coach . When we are 40 points down and change the play to the other side by kicking backwards. I almost break the telly. Someone forward should be moving not standing still , clearly not fit enough .

When the Dee’s play sheethouse I feel sheethouse. Sick of it. Play the youngsters

And while I am ranting,

Our game plan, what is it ? The players do not know it or it does not work . We have had it long enough . No one on land can explain it Can anyone. It’s no secret all the other clubs out play us. Sorry for the rant and sorry we lost, st least the players can bleed a bit and do . I have no real gripe with any players.

It’s been changed to high possession hand-balling game that keeps the ball moving forward as quick as possible. Problem is we don’t have the skill to do it, so it only works now and then.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
