It's interesting that we were happy to go with just the one tall forward (predominantly) in the last 2 games (Petty)

We've looked far more potent (and mobile) with a mainly medium sized forward line (we've also laid a lot more tackles and locked the ball more in our forward line as well ... in the last 2 matches)

Helps when we're no longer predominantly bombing the ball forward (as a default move)

Back-track to the first game of the season when we played 3 talls forwards with all 3 barely touching the ball (AJ, Jefferson & JVR) ... can't imagine playing all 3 in the same team now

Right now, playing 2 of the 3 is 1 too many

Surely JVR can ruck for 15% of the game. Doing that can get him involved in the game and I'm not sure it effects his play in the forward line anyway

In my view, if JVR comes into the side it will be at the expense of Fullarton. Which means JVR will be expected to contest about 15% of the ruck duels

Petty to play deeper forward than JVR if we go with that 2 pronged attack is my bet

But AJ* might come in for Fullarton instead anyway. It's one or the other, not both

If AJ comes in, he would be best suited deep forward with Petty out at CHF

For balance, JVR to come in over AJ (assuming Fullarton has a spell in the ressies)

When JVR rucks Gawn can have a spell on the bench or play deep forward with Petty out at CHF (so a rotating forward line as such)

Fullarton (sp?) was serviceable in his first game, which may be his ceiling. Given we have JVR, AJ and Disco all waiting to come back in - and all of whom can probably exceed serviceability (tbc), I don't think we'd lose much by dropping him.

On the other hand, maybe a run of games (similar to what JVR and Fritta were given) could help him?

I have no idea how selection at this club works so wont pretend to try and understand. What I will do is drink 4 fingers of ouzo, spin myself around, then throw an arrow at a dart board.

Fullarton has not shown enough so his height is not an advantage. He did ok against Freo but was largely invisible against the Tigers. JVR or AJ will probably replace him

Playing as a permanent key forward is really hard work these days. Way less space to lead into so a KPF needs a few other tricks

Years ago, many teams had at least 2 decent forwards. Nowadays, good key forwards are scarce due to the nature of how much the sport has changed

I see Turner as more of a backman as his forward craft is not that good. Still, he'll probably get a few more chances forward

Our best tall forward is Petty but unless we recruit a decent FB, Petty is possibly destined to fill May's role (down the track)

If we can get hold of some decent draft picks, we might be able to lure a decent (experienced) KPF in the off-season

Ins: Turner, JVR.....I think both are part of our best 22 and need to be back in the side.

Outs: Fullerton, Sharp.......I'm not sure either is best 22 although Sharp as sub is ok.

Oh cmon there’s more to footy than not being out marked and being tall, actually marking the ball getting a kick, physical presence & competitiveness, he’s done none.

He deserved a go with some ok VFL form & no other options to choose from from but has been totally underwhelming

We had 3 tall forwards in AJ, JVR and Jefferson plus two rucks in Campbell and Verall.

I do recall JVR marking on the wing but in the main JVR's marks were in the pocket (I think). AJ got a few almost dead in front but 2:5 let him down. Can't recall JVR rucking.

If anything we now have too many talls/rucks at Casey. I'd prefer to see them rotated through the backline for experience rather than benched. Then again Kentfield was down back.

I wished Fullerton offered more

Spargo or Tholstrup may make way for Melksham? Sharp also as 23rd?

Interesting week, lots of players vying for spots and plenty in decent form too. Huge game, win and win well and our season has a faint pulse, lose and we’re done. What we put up against WC in Perth last year was embarrassing, I hope the boys remember and it spurs them on to make a statement.

Melksham for Tholstrup or Fritsch

Turner or Adams if May is out or potentially Turner in with Riv returning to the midfield and someone else out, Sharp out as sub maybe?

I think the Turner forward experiment should end. He looked like peak Jake Lever in the Freo game and should get the chance to show more of that.

Although Ghosty just mentioned there’s a vibe around TC at training so maybe he comes in for Fullerton and JVR keeps working on his leading in the VFL. That’d be really interesting, I think TC could compete aerially as well if not better than Fullerton forward, offers a lot more in the ruck, the only downside being he’s slow, but with only two/one tall forwards for most of the game that could work?

I am in the camp of letting JVR just work on his forward craft without having to go into ruck, but they need to get him to start leading at the ball carrier rather than just put hand up all the time, whether the ruck duties affect his ability to do this, I am not sure.

Because Fullerton doesn’t play as a 200cm marking fwd, you would think he was 170cm and 60kg if you watch him. Just get pushed off the mark like he is a child playing against men

A massive danger game this weekend. West Coast have been alright the last fortnight and lead Essendon by 5 goals at home at one stage. They showed in 3 games last year in Perth (Vs Freo, Melbourne and Richmond) that when they click they can be quite unstoppable with their attacking style of footy and Jake Waterman dominating up front.

We essentially need to be 3 goals in front at 3 qtr time due to our inability to score in 4th quarters. We've kicked a total of 7 goals across all of our last quarters which is seriously concerning and the trend disappointingly continued last Thursday night when we had Richmond on toast early in the last quarter and looked to have killed their spirit.

A loss would be disappointing but from from surprising.

He played Round 3 vs Gold Coast too though, so isn’t his average less than a goal a game?
