Just sick of people going on about the first round pick without mentioning who we got for it. Lindsay was genuinely The best performed draftee the first two weeks, better than Ashcroft, lalor, O’Sullivan, Draper… all top 5 picks. He’s an absolute jet and I’m Glad we got him.

Agree. It's not like we traded the pick for an older player who isn't part of the future. We brought a top 5 pick from this year forward to a top 10 pick last year and get him into the system a year earlier, knowing that last year's draft was strong and this year's draft isn't.

I agree with you on Lindsay. I don’t reckon a lot of the regulars realize that this can be a tough crowd though.

When we are on the fast break they look nervous and confused, they can it even hit targets with no pressure. Worst forward line in the AFL. Never fixed issues on forward as Goodwin was in denial for the last 3 years

Correct. Imagine if that Was the pick we gave up for Houston… would be a disaster.

Goodwin has found a way to completely unravel this team from the hardest to play against to the easiest, failed miserably to fix the fwd issues, our list mgt has been pathetic in attracting experienced talent

Too much love and Ben Crowe brainwashing

I think Selwyn is a problem but we have one guy who has busted his gut to be fitter than most of the list - Bill Laurie. Not only that, but churns out a stat line in the VFL.

Not a great player necessarily - but does he get a look in? No. Not a coach's favourite. Has never been given an extended run in the team. Is he better than Henderson? Sharp? Absolutely. But they get the benefit of the doubt because they're new.

Goodwin lost me when Oliver played round 1 last year after spending most of the summer on another planet.

He has always played favourites and there has been zero selection integrity for years. Senior players rushed back when injured, time and time again.

The coaching is poor and the standards are poor, and yes we have immature melodramatic leaders. The best (ANB) left the club and is now lifting the standards in Adelaide with Burgess.

Our flag team was built on real coaches who taught the game - Roos, McCartney, Rawlings. Stafford, the scapegoat for the conversion proglems...taught Gawn how to ruck, after Roos and Stynes inspired him to be great.

We have [censored] leaders, amateur coaches and our young players are regressing.

Laurie is not quick enough, otherwise i agree with the above

We are on the express way to irrelevance again. This is absolutely tragic and heartbreaking at the same time.

What I absolutely fear is how long we’ll now have to wait before we can be excited about being a contender again. It’s absolutely daunting.

I just want to cry!

Are you in denial? We are very poor & get scored against easily, can’t take a mark in our fwd 50 .. yeah we are close

Close to them doubling our score

Kicked 0.0 as a small forward

He played wing all game, wish they put him in the forward line for a bit. We had no one roving when the ball hit the deck.

I've avoided saying it prior to tonight, but Petty isn't a player who wears an injury well. And there's often a mystery injury. Translate that how you like. Genuinely, I've had him in the gun since the 'golf with mates' interview, but he has no go in him at all. I want him gone. He's an absolute Donny Downer.

We've all been thinking it, but you've got the gonads to say it.

He's ridiculously soft.

who did we get for that [censored] decision so finish bottom no pick 1 Bloody hell !!!!!!

Swap Van Rooyen for a key forward who can hold his marks, and Petty for someone who can defend without giving away stupid frees, and we win that.

In spite of everything, we are generating enough I50's ... only to see it come straight out again.

JEFFO TIME

Pretty much the way I expected it to go.

Leaders had to Improve but their method was predictable

Gawn should pushed for help- Campbell. Geelong are giants.

Viney ball, attack Ball, kick ball anywhere

Oliver did just enough to not be criticized too heavily

Petracca -same, but more [censored] off.

May can’t be faulted but not the leader without Lever alongside.

This year is a learning year and seeing who wants to play with us moving forward, nothing less.

Forward connection blah blah blah, exactly the same issue for years bloh bloh bloh. Sick of talking/hearing/watching it to be honest.

Skills below AFL standard (ESPECIALLY HAND BALLS) which is frankly unacceptable on behalf of both the coaches and players. There is zero reason for players not being able to handball.

We did play better for longer this week which was good.

Melksham burnt about 4-5 times F50? I feel like he's our only forward that repeatedly finds himself alone in our F50.

Jeelong 63 more marks

Suspect Goody makes a change shortly

Why didn't we play the same game? We've played the uncontested possession game at times this year and it's paid off.

I suspect we thought, oh we've got Max and Blicavs is out, so let's just go long to him up the line. If that's the case, Geelong conned us into that. Going long to Max is not a sustainable or winning formula.

This is the only takeaway that gives me some hope.

As I said in my post, our structure behind the ball and pressure is generating enough turnover chances, but our entries are still horrible. I lost count of how many times, we would kick to a nest of 2 or 3 Cats when we had 2 or 3 free by themselves.

I could see us trying our new style but we simply don't have the foot skills to execute.

That's interesting. I couldn't see it tonight.

Thank you Tommy Mac - the only player that looked inside the whole night.

Him and Bowey were BOG for me.

The effort was ok for three quarters, but then the fragile nature of our method was exposed. Belief is low. Execution is disgustingly, Cohesion is ugly at times. I don’t care what position on the ladder we occupy. I care about performing up to the standard we set ourselves. If we are having fourth quarter fade outs… fix it!

It turned when we finally brought quality individuals in to run the club. Jackson, Mahoney, Viney, McCartney, Roos, Taylor, Burgess.

They raised the standards and changed the culture, taught the kids how to play and how to play as a team.

The best teams and organisations have the best leadership. It shows over and over and over again. People downplay it, think it is easy, think it's overpaid. It's not.

Success has followed Fagan. The Cats and Swans have had great stable leadership for years. Hardwick clearly takes it with him where he goes, and he had Peggy. Some people have it, and most don't.

I think Goodwin has some good leadership traits but I don't think he is at Roos, Fagan, Longmire, Hardwick levels. More importantly, I think the rest of the club is sorely lacking leaders of the quality we had when it turned.

Until we make those appointments again...we won't return to the top. Hunter, Billings, Schache, McAdam - those are recruiting decisions that wouldn't have happened under Roos' watch, or Todd Viney's watch.

It's run it's course now.
