Thatโ€™s for a loss over 100 points. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I am really confident our midfield will stand up at the stoppages tonight with Gawny, Trac and Oliver all on notice and they are all champions so in adversity I expect the cream to rise to the top. Hopefully with the addition of Pickett we easily hold sway in the middle, especially if one of Viney or Sparrow or Langdon are in there as well to ensure we have one negater in case they win the tap out or to cover when Danger does his Joel Selwood battering ram impersonation.

I am not so sure we have got the right set up in the forward half - I mean why do we have to play three small forwards each week - Kossie is the fourth this week, although he will play mainly in the middle.

Further to this I don't get why we keep bringing Spargo straight back in like he is a Charlie Curnow game changer. I mean Spargo is a clever player but he has barely played for two seasons because of his achilles issues and he missed much of the pre-season including missing both our practice games. Yet he is so crucial apparently that he does not need to become match-hardened via our VFL side. This is not meant to be a criticism of Spargo as he does have better vision than most of our players, but why, why, why can't he find form in the VFL and then come back in. If Goody and the match committee were so desperate to play small forwards then they could have gone with Lawrie, who is coming off a great VFL game and spent most of the pre-season with the main group.

Then there is baffling decision to not give Gawny a back-up in Tom Campbell. I went to a few pre-season training sessions and it was clear big Tom was more physical than Gawny and very capable of winning hitouts. Sure he's a meat and potatoes type ruckman and lacks Gawny's marking class, but after his practice game on Xerri against North, it was obvious he could perform that role at AFL level. And given the battering Gawny always cops, it made complete sense to use him as a safeguard before subbing him out at three quarter-time and injecting some pace or forward smarts with a Melky or even Lawrie. There may have been some doubt about TC's fitness after his hamstring awareness issue in the VFL last week, but if he plays tonight in the VFL, then clearly that's not a serious issue. Not to mention the fact that he should have played against Xerri in round 2. And he would be perfect against SDK and Blicavs because he'd ensure we at least win the hitouts all game and not have to ruck JVR against Blicavs. And he also brings an element of toughness to our game which is mega crucial down at Geelong where the natives do get a bit feral.

All of this sounds like a criticism of Goody, but as I said elsewhere, Goody is doing a super job this season with his opneness at media conferences and his sermons are approaching the Reverend status.

But ultimately, I am mega concerned that we missed the boat in rd 1 because Goody got excited with his new toys and decided to play six of them against GWS when three would have been well and truly enough. And he has persisted with his penchant for small forwards and yet our game plan invariably ends up being long panic kicks into the forward line.

Pretty much agree with all of this

Iโ€™m going with history.

2019 - Us 0-3, Swans 1-2 and we travel to Sydney and get our first win.

2025 - 0-3, Cats 1-2โ€ฆ

Thatโ€™s pretty much all I got.

We do well in Geelong when the year ends in a 5.

2005 - break a 7 game losing streak and survive a Matt Egan kick after the siren to win by a point.

2015 - the Max Gawn coming out game where we won by 4 goals and I reckon we were more of an outsider in that game than tonight.

We're due our 10 yearly win down there....(yeah, yeah I know we won in 2021)

All pundits and logic predict a pretty decent pummelling for us. But I reckon with our backs against the wall we have this.

By 21 points.

whatโ€™s our record in the last 5 at gumba stadium??

please and thank you

Ok, so I know this sounds masochistic, but I took it upon myself to re-watch last weekend's game yesterday. I saw a lot more positive signs than I remembered from watching it live last weekend. I'm more confident that with the skills and run that our ins this week bring, we'll be competitive.

Go Dees!

Were you whipping yourself while you watched?

That said, I reckon I'd yell just as hard a second time at the goal at 3QT which was kicked about 5 mins after the siren. SMH.

Oh that was a travesty! I let out an audible "Oh come on!" at the replay. My wife asked what I was doing, and now thinks I'm nuts.

Feels like the old days

i just said to my mate - oooh we are juicy odds!

4 losses ranging from 2, 15, 28, and 80 points

1 win - the Max goal after the siren in 2021.

Iโ€™m taking this game each way in a few bets just in case.

a lot of cats supporters down here are not confident, Darcy Fort smacked them in the ruck and they expect Gawn to do worse.

I have zero confidence in us winning based on what we have done so far and how slow we are, but, the first 2-5 minutes of the game will tell the story.

Geelong by 72

Totally agree that with us you can get a good idea if we are a chance very early on in the game. Somehow I find it is easier to make the call when actually at the game as opposed to watching it on the telly

I normally make the call at the 10 minute mark. Last week sadly, it was fairly obvious after 5 minute.

Ive, seen us run out in the bad old days like the Three Stooges x18. After that it was all down hill!

What are the odds of Kossie being a little over-enthusiastic and getting suspended again?

I can feel it happening

Any suspension Kossie gets this year makes me inclined to trade if a WA club comes looking.

A win against this vermin would certainly make my week. But I cant see it.

No matter what may happen to him now or in the future, I will always remember him as the coach that got us our first flag in over half a century.

Dozen Red Bulls and a Carton of Winnie Blues??

Of course, that goes without saying, but his Coaching since then has been a little ordinary

Sadly, I really canโ€™t disagree with you.

Butโ€ฆ..2022 our injuries didnโ€™t help us (but we made the top four).

In 2023, we again made the final four but we managed to lose both games that we had won. Sooo close

And 2024, poor.

Soโ€ฆ.I have to agree with you. โ˜น๏ธ

Losing Burgess and Yze has hurt us big time

I have no confidence in our forward line tonight. Mind you it doesn't help when they don't move & it gets bombed in

  • WHATโ€™S NEXT? by The Oracle

Whatโ€™s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facingย ย intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, itโ€™s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.ย

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourneโ€™sย performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
