PETRACCA RAISES EYEBROWS AT DEESโ€™ B & F

Christian Petracca raised the eyebrows of former Melbourne players in the room with a curious answer to his motivations to returning to the club this year.

But he did appear to commit himself to the club for 2026 as he accepted his runner-up award in the best-and-fairest behind victor Max Gawn.

When asked by host Clint Stanaway how he had worked so hard to get back to playing after last yearโ€™s serious internal injuries he replied: โ€œI get paid โ€ฆ Itโ€™s my jobโ€.

Ex-players in the room had hoped he might have reflected on his love of the jumper or his club.

But to be fair to Petracca he quickly spoke about his passion for the game as he said he would work over the off-season to help restore the Demons to their 2021 premiership heights.

โ€œItโ€™s not just my job, itโ€™s my passion. I love footy. I am competitive,โ€ he said.

โ€œWhen you have an injury like last year, some setback or traumatic injury it makes you realise how precious life is and also how appreciative we are for the job we have a players.

โ€œItโ€™s amazing walking back into the footy club and doing what we do every day which is being around the boys and kicking the footy.

โ€œDay one of pre-season and over off-season I will reflect on the season we had but also how can I get better but also as a team. On behalf of all the players we are fortunate to have tasted success in 2021 and there is no greater feeling.โ€

Uhm, itโ€™s actually called an em rule (aka an em dash) and ChatGPT wouldnโ€™t know an em rule if it jumped up and punched it in the throat. Idk what that even means but โ€˜elongated hyphenโ€™ made me twitch ๐Ÿ˜†

Yeah my ears pricked at this as well. I think it was a silly attempt to be funny, but itโ€™s a bit of a Freudian slip as well. No doubt that this is probably what he tells himself from time to time.

You can't spell elongated without 'long'!

But does Trac want to stay with us, thatโ€™s the burning question

I donโ€™t want to hang on with him for another year if he has his doubts

We need a united club

yes imo he does. His whole family had a table at the B&F last night, his parents won the raffle :)

Family wont go and splurge money on a end of year bnf for no reason. most other player parents were at home

I agree that Tracc wants to stay but your reason (above) makes me laugh. His whole family had a table at the B&F and thatโ€™s a sign heโ€™s staying? Would that it were so simple.

Also, โ€œmost other player [sic] parents were at homeโ€ because most playersโ€™ parents have to pay to attend. Itโ€™s predominantly playersโ€™ partners who accompany them because the players get a plus 1. Other family members have to pay. That said, Iโ€™d be surprised if the Petraccas had to pay at all.

I was thinking the same thing. A good will gesture after last yearโ€™s injury ordeal, or perhaps a few extra tickets because Trac was receiving his life membership.

Gawny said Jack Fitzpatrick was in attendance. Iโ€™m gonna guess he didnโ€™t pay full price either for the pleasure of attending the worlds most boring award show ๐Ÿ˜‚

First off, Sam Maclure is a grub.

His article today shows he has no bounds for his dislike of MFC. He states that it is (in his opinion) a bad look that Clayton and Christian accepted their life memberships last night after wanting to leave last season. He fails to mention that ten years of service and 200 games get you an automatic life membership. Does he think they should not have accepted this honour?Well, both players hit that target this season. At no stage last year did Trac ask to leave. The context of last night was that Clint asked why Trac was so dedicated. His answer is "It's my job"

Sam, if you view this site, you should be ashamed of yourself. You distort the facts and create chaos, and wonder if we started making up rumours about you. Trac is on the record that he is MFC through and through. He admits he wears his heart on his sleeve, but he is a thorough professional whose commitment to training and getting the best out of himself is obsessive.

Another tidbit. Yes, the attendance was down last night. Last year, there were about 110 tables of 10. Last night I saw about 70 tables of 10 with lots of MFC staff and past players at tables. Maybe that is how the numbers were swelled. A chat with the Demon Army confirmed they were given 2 dates, and that last night was changed from the original. This was confirmed by an MFC official who told me the club had moved the function forward. Some players, after their exit interview, were heading off to Europe today, having booked their tickets on Monday so they have clear air and do not need to return to the club for a while, unlike having a B&F in 2 weeks, which they would have to come back to. As it is, Max and a few others had spent the last 8 days in N.Z. having a post-season wind down (alias footy trip).

Fixed (and thank you)โ€ฆ but the word โ€˜I diotโ€™ is censored? Seriously?

Hanging on every word Trac says .. heโ€™s response was s as n attempt to be funny, no doubt what heโ€™s gone through plus the culture player issues & now the coach sacked all players will be feeling anxious on the future, whoever gets the coaching role will need to galvanise the group again

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmyโ€™s inclusive bannerโ€”"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwoodโ€™s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.ย

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecastโ€”20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze โ€” expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isnโ€™t a standard conceptโ€”itโ€™s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.
