sometimes I wonder if both CP5 and oliver held the club over a barrel and demanded big $$ or they would look elsewhere

If so, golden handcuffs is what the Club gave them. Now they have to get the golden keys for the Club if they want to get out.

Dare I say it after today's revelations?

So many Oliver twists!

I understand that King, Guerra, Lamb etc are all thinking about the best interests of the club, but when you lose arguably 2 of your most liked players amongst the fan base (Pickett and Gawn probably the most liked) you're going to see a dip in membership. If we start with a similar 0-5 next year with another bottom 8 finish, I can almost guarantee you we'll have the smallest membership number in Vic by the end of 2026.

What’s occurred since the 21 flag within the playing group which is well documented, the failure by the footy dept to nip this in butt ,the off field issues with presidents, CEOs and the admission by Goodwin it was right to sack him and they failed to define what their purpose was after the flag is such a sad train wreck when you compare what the lions have achieved!

Clearly after almost 60 years of no cup, we were satisfied with one and have now gone back to the veil of negativity.

Not to mention Bailey Smiths blatant homophobic mad Monday costume, that received no punishment, yet Rankine got 4 weeks for 1 word.

Homophobic?

Clarke did this when he first got to hawthorn. Cleaned out the senior popular guys, but then look at what happened with their success.

Maybe king just never rated Oliver. Anyway he's cleared out 2 players who were in the top 4 worst kicks.

I think what I feel most disappointed by is the fact that Clarry loves club. I don't know if I could say the same about Trac now. I think I'd prefer a heart n soul player than a player half in half out.

I do really just hope they challenged Oliver to add strings to his bow, and that he'll have a point to prove to the new coach. Or, he'll move clubs, then prove that point by tearing us a new one when we play him!

In summary:

  • Trac not invested, wants to leave, we probably want to (and possibly will) keep him.

  • Oliver loves club, doesn't want to leave, we want to shift him on.

  • May/Judd...NFI what's the go there.

Clarry doesn’t love the club enough to evolve his role within the team, it seems.

These are our premiership heroes and its so sad that so many won't play out their careers (or most of it) with the club. l know list mgmt are 'charged' with improving the club but you need to be careful you don't go to far. Personally l wouldn't want clarry to leave and pay half his salary at the same time particularly if we don't have someone on the hook. Back him in to play a different role if he is open to it

I heard he likes to ruck

Typo?

Doesn't go well for Viney either because he's slower than Oliver and Trac with the same skills. People are now seeing what people have been saying for the last couple of years a one-paced, lack of skilled midfield.

Viney given his courage has been playing banged up for many seasons despite not missing many games. Now he has to carry the heavy inside mid load mostly by himself next season. Will his aging body hang tough?

The love fest is over

What a waste that review was last year. I think what we are seeing is what Goody and his confidants worked so hard to keep together. He probably thought it was worth it but all it did was disenfranchise the rest of the team with the double standards that must have been forced to accomodate to every wish and demand of these two.

It really is a shame it had to come to this but I think in the long run we needed a King to come in - someone who doesn’t owe anything to anybody - and reset the whole place. Gonna be a few hard years I just hope that Gawny and Vines get to go when we are competing and not when we are in the dumps.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

Following an injury-interrupted start to the season, McVee struggled to maintain the standard he established in 2025 as he pursued an expanded role within the team structure. He remained a firm fan favourite and the club had hoped to negotiate a new contract with the former rookie selection from Western Australia, whose partner, Lily Johnson, plays for Melbourne's AFLW side. Those hopes were dashed when he expressed his desire to return to his home state and play for Fremantle. Like all players who have worn the red and blue and are leaving this year, we wish him well in the future.
