Except he DIDN’T lose the players last year. Nor has he lost them now. He likely won’t lose them anytime soon.

This isn’t directed just at you but for anyone calling for Goody to be sacked… if he is sacked, it WON’T be because of how the players feel about him and that’s a fact.

Also, call for his head all you like but be careful what you wish for. If Goody is sacked we may need to prepare for the absence of Clarrie and Kozzie coz make no mistake: he is like a father to them both. For those who will predictably say that’s not what coaching’s all about… you may be right. But what I’m telling you is right or wrong it will happen.

I'm prepared to see Clarry go. I think he's peaked and will never get back to his best from a couple of years ago. Kossie I would like to keep but if his hearts not in it he can go. We can't afford to keep players that don't want to be there. Why wouldn't they want to play under Longmire one of the most repected coaches in the comp?

Who are you? Seriously, who the [censored] are you? You’ve been here for five minutes and your posts are predominantly belligerent, which isn’t usual for someone who is relatively new to this site. You smack of someone who’s been here in another incarnation, an equally combative incarnation. Therefore please don’t interact with me in any capacity. Thanks in advance

Incidentally, don’t preface a post with “With respect” then call someone delusional which is undeniably disrespectful. It makes you look stupid(er).

I didn't call you delusional, but okay..

Clearly I've struck a nerve. Happy to not interact, but I think it's fair to point out that your word is opinion and not second hand info from players due to the fact you attend training.

Of course they are.  I was  responding to someone who said just that FG

That's also a no win response on your part.  If i named you'd say shame on you for naming said player.  What hard evidence do you have!?? Etc etc.

Sorry but you can't have your cake etc.

Just don't say anything. That was my point. If you don't want to name them, don't even imply. I don't want to know.

Goodwin in his presser, on not taking advantage of the 3rd quarter forward entry dominance: 'We got straight-line bomby; not the way we train'.

This is for him to fix by benching and/or not selecting players.  We may lose a match or two but this is happening right now.

maybe but I’m not sacking Goodwin

He won't be sacked. Not during the season.

If we continue to stack up more losses like Sundays, he may retire.

If  we finish 14th again then I can't see him coaching us next year though.

And if it gets to that would probably be for the best. And yea he's a premiership coach but like the players, you still have to keep performing. And if we have two years of no finals after two outs in straight sets, even after a flag, surely that's the breaking point.

The North outcome strangely feels like the game we lost against Freo last year. At least we have time to turn it around but zim really not hopeful. And zi try to be.

It's just Sundays game really exposed some deep core issues and it's not something a new coach could turn around promptly.

Spot on.  A full pre-season plus 3 to  6 matches to implement.

Same goes for other aspects of any significant game plan change ups.

Those who can't execute don't get the call up and can play at Casey till whenever.

Simon needs to walk the walk of ruthlessness as he said he would bring to the club at the end of 2020.

Too much talk since 2021 from both players and coach.

Werridee,u dont think Longmire might be the BEST person to retro refit and reprogram Clarry??

Yes I do. I think he could reinvigorate the whole side, including the one's that are disillusioned with the club and only stayed because of Goodwin like Clarry, Kossie and Trac.

For those that think Goodwin isn’t the problem can you please share your thoughts on how we turn this all around? The answer is more than just our injuries, see the Bulldogs. Can you tell us how our gameplan stacks up against other sides, stating that we played finals in 22/23 means little as years later Goodwin still hasn’t fixed our delivery inside fwd 50 or our ability to convert once it’s in there. We’ve gone down the path of new assistants so where to now?

We haven't got rid of all our assistants we still have Chaplin. I wonder if Horse could get Stevie J to coach our forward line. Ex Sydney assistant.

Are we the only club potentially looking for a new coach?
Port have announced their succession plan.

Eagles have a new coach.

Essendon recently extended Scott.

Yze is in his 2nd season.

Maybe Carlton if Voss can’t turn the Blues around.

Carlton and Freo.

Longmire will have the guts to phase Viney out like he did Luke Parker

Values good kicking and will help rebalance our side

Ditto. No excuses for players who can’t hit a target.  It’s a disgrace.  Most butcher if even with little if any pressure.  Even Bowey has gone backwards since he started at the club.  He was an elite kick in 2021 in his first year but now can be unreliable at times.

An elite kick he was never. Bowey is and always has been bottom 6. The sooner people realise that the better. Has he ever had a 20+!disposal game ? 100+ SC points? HB is the position for fantasy point galore and he has not even come close. He is holding that place for Windsor & McVee & Lindsay. After that he’ll be VFL bound or at another club.

Of all the stats to run with this week, you picked this one...

An odd metric to rank a player's value as we dont know his specific role but anyway.  He's had 96 and 97 in the past 2 weeks and over 100 against the Pies last year. So basically 3 in the past 5 games if you consider that coming close.

I have an uncanning ability to mozz myself. I’ll wear it - intact I’ll celebrate it. I ain’t easy to do.

I still stand by my initial comment though, he is bottom 6 material and doesn’t play the position well.

Um, actually you did: “To think that you are privy to what the players actually think of Goody just because you attend training is borderline delusional.” unless of course you want to split hairs and use the “borderline” escape clause.

Lmao, this “5 minute” logic your are applying is akin to those who spew and attack certain journalists about having not played the game at the highest level, so their opinion is instantly invalid? Ironically, those types of fans haven’t played either.

Just because you haven’t played the game at a high level does not mean you can’t form an opinion.

Same logic applies here. I am confused.. is this a forum run by the global World Economic Forum elites, or is this is an open, public fan forum?

You were once a new user yourself, so in essence, you are also nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Shoot! I’m glad this is only the second time I’ve ventured into this thread—what a fact-free zone, filled with noise but no signal… It’s like watching a pub argument between nuffies who skipped the game, skimmed the stats, and still reckon they’ve cracked the code.

You’ve clearly missed the point. The “5-minute logic” has nothing to do with having played at the highest level, or any level. It has nothing to do with the poster’s opinion, either. It has everything to do with former posters who’ve been banned, for example, and have returned under a new name. In this instance, the poster’s phrasing and syntax seem familiar to me. Please re-read my post and you’ll understand.

  • PREVIEW: West Coast

Saturday’s election night game in Perth between the West Coast Eagles and Melbourne represents 18th vs 15th which makes it a tough decision as to which party to favour. The Eagles have yet to break the ice under their new coach in Andrew McQualter who is the second understudy in a row to confront Demon Coach Simon Goodwin who was also winless until a fortnight ago. On that basis, many punters might be considering to go with the donkey vote but I’ve been assigned with the task of helping readers to come to a considered opinion on this matter of vital importance across the nation. It was almost a year ago that I wrote a preview here of the Demons’ away game against the Eagles (under the name William from Waalitj because it was Indigenous Round).  I issued a warning that it was a danger game, based on my local knowledge that the home team were no longer easybeats and that they possessed a wunderkind generational player in Harley Reid who was capable of producing stellar performances playing among men a decade and more older than he.  At the time, the Eagles already had two wins off the back of a couple of the young man’s masterclasses and they had recently given the Bombers a scare straight after their Anzac Day blockbuster draw against the then reigning premiers.

  • NON-MFC: Round 08

Round 08 of the 2025 AFL Season kicks off on Thursday with a must-win game for the Bombers to stay in touch with the top eight, while the struggling Roos seek a morale-boosting upset. Friday sees the Saints desperate for a win as well if they are to stay in finals contention and their opponents the Dockers will be eager to crack in to the Top 8 with a win on the road. Saturday kicks off with a pivotal clash for both sides asthe Bulldogs look to solidify their top-eight spot, while Port seeks to shake their pretender tag. Then the Crows will be looking to steady their topsy turvy season against a resurgent Blues looking to make it 4 wins on the trot. On Election Night a Blockbuster will see the ladder-leading Pies take on the Cats, who are keen to bounce back after a narrow loss. On Sunday the Sydney Derby promises fireworks as the Giants aim to cement their top-eight status, while the Swans fight to keep their season alive. The Hawks, celebrating their centenary, will be looking to easily account for the Tigers who are desperate to halt their slide. The Round concludes on Sunday Night with a top end of the table QClash with significant ladder implications; both Queensland teams are in scintillating form. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

The Demons hit the road in Round 8, heading to Perth to face the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium. With momentum building, the Dees will be aiming for a third straight victory to keep their season revival on course. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
