I’m all for it. With Pickett, Spargo, TMac, Melksham, McVee and Tholstrup all likely to return it seems we have a bit of extra depth about the place.

Yeah, so you pick out an ordinary performance from 2023??? Yeah right🤮

I didn't pick it out.

@binman looks like we've drifted a bit in the betting market since 6 debutants announced. No surprise given some would think it's a bit radical.

Here goes the negative spin again from Barrett.  He takes every chance to pile into the Dees. Even when we are transparent and open, he wants a negative spin.  I mute him on the Tv now.  He loves the hate!!! 666 is his number.

IF ...

it's been on off-season of declarations of love and positivity, and some more love, and then some more love after that ...

THEN ...

while I don't yet believe it, I don't mind the public strategy planning behind it. It ultimately won't mean anything, though, if the Demons don't get back into the finals.

I like this team.

I think having AJ and Jeffo with JVR makes for a more dynamic forward setup, particularly as I think AJ will ruck more than he usually would against a depleted GWS ruck lineup allowing us to both rest Max and throw him forward. Also AJ is tough, he will take the pressure off JVR to crash every contest and should give him a chance to get some looks on a lead. The downside might be that it does mean Fritsch MUST play with intensity and tackle, we saw some of it this preseason but we also saw him look disinterested and not chase also, I hope he brings his intent. He’ll get good looks as a third/fourth forward but he needs to bring a pressure game.

Finally we get to see JVR as a permanent full forward!! Rip em apart Roo!!

Jeffo did some good things against North, I like Disco but he hasn’t set the world on fire in the PS games. If Jefferson brings his best it could be exciting and we won’t lose a heap.

Langford and Lindsay are class, GWS are lacking inside mids and with Green either not playing or coming back from a calf having another bull to throw in there allowing Trac, Clarry and Viney to be thrown forward at stages is huge! Lindsay looked at home against Freo, I’m excited to see him.

Also while I’m excited to see what Henderson can do geez Kynan Brown is stiff, tackling machine, quick, does some nice things. Looked good when he came in against North in preseason. Would’ve thought he’d be a chance.

Go Dees!

I’d absolutely love for AJ to make a position his own for the year. I think he’d make us stronger structurally. Turner and Jefferson competing for the other tall role…….First up…..Matthew Jefferson

Reckon we can put the below to bed now?

Goodwin doesn’t:

Make big changes

Try new players early enough

Move players around in new positions

I am a few hours behind Melbourne and i have just seen the team.
Good Luck to our new players, hopefully last nights game gave them a spark on what is possible with full commitment

but he doesn't play in the guts ... confused

Hope I am wrong, but feel this is too many newbies against a potential top 4 list.  Good luck to them, a lot of weight on the rest of the team to look after them and produce a win.  Got a feeling the 4 points  might go Giants.  Anyway go hard dee's.

We'll certainly know which of the new guys are ready for AFL. Don't mind the approach. Good luck boys

Seriously though, didn't he mention that he's travelling along the coast for the next few weeks? He may not even be there for his boy's debut!

Fantastic recruiting has meant we actually have depth now

This will put a rocket under guys like Turner to not just expect to be picked but to earn it

Turner has had the odd good game but is no world beater.

Agree. good hands and kick but doesn’t get involved enough yet. 17 goals last year from 15 games

Hopefully it comes

Far out I am (even more) pumped after seeing the debutants named.

Is it Sunday arvo yet!!!??

But will he pf, I am all for playing Jefferson but not sure this is the week. I am also not convinced he has another level.

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
