I reckon in Jackson's eyes we are a "big club" to him...he won a flag here, that means more than all the other BS.

My local milk bar is big compared to Flogmantle.

Based on his performance tonight, I hope we don't chase him. His ruck work is atrocious. Expense does not equal output.

Remember when we all said he is tanking in his final year to avoid an injury or his heart wasn’t in it? Turns out he wasn’t.

I'll be the odd man out here, but when he was in the ruck was when Freo looked most dangerous.

He really opens the game up for the mids.

As I said previously, I would love him back...

He’s not player at a level that’s reflects his $900k a year contract. We are already not getting value for money from Clarry and still on the hook for some of Brayshaw’s contract. I don’t think we can afford him unless Freo are willing to pay a chunk which won’t happen.

Jackson is 28th in the AFL for Player Rating despite being played out of position for a huge chunk of game time. He is definitely worth the money.

Anyone saying he isn't worth it are crazy. Freo are playing trash atm but they'd be worse without him

It’s overs for me, we need to get a books in order so we can attract players out of contract where we don’t need to give up draft capital.

$900K is a bargain for Jackson.

Max is on $900k. Now that’s a bargain.

Edit- having done a bit of googling it seems $900k is fairly standard for any half decent ruck at the minute with the better paid ones getting as much as $1.3m and TDK report offered $1.7m to go to the Saints.

Edited by Colm

If Jackson comes to Melbourne (which anyone who thinks the deal is completely off needs to be reminded of Dan Houston and Tom Barrass’ comments on their future early on in the season last year) it’ll be on a 7+ year agreement on far more than his current 900k deal. Because that’s what the new CBA reflects. 900k when he signed at Freo is now around 1.1 in the current market. 1.3m for 7 years would be in the range of a deal if it was to be done.

Again Jackson ‘coming home’ is certainly not off, more so just buried a little because it’s so early on in 2025 👀

I agree we need a replacement/ partner for Maxxy. Extra responsibility is the key.

Sorry but I hope we don't chase him. He hasn't really gone on & got much better since he left us.

Doesn’t need to be that much better. Here is a young talented free spirited footballer who would relish this opportunity to partner then succeed the greatest ruckman in the AFL/VFL.

Bring him “home” again come back Dogga.

How willing would Freo be to get rid of LJ when the other main ruck is injury prone and not that mobile, and on 1 mil a season.

Depends on what 'player ratings' one follows. On the set I refer to, he's 58. There are five ruckmen in the comp in front of him. And only Max might be paid more. And that in a nutshell is the problem.

Agree, he’s not Max(nobody is) but he offers a lot and points of difference. Freo may now improve by fate rather then strategy.

Darcy, Jackson, Treacy, Amiss and Voss is way too top heavy and why 62 inside F50 entries equates to last nights score.

I think Darcy being injured and Amiss so out of form will see Jackson, Treacy and Voss as the talls they go with producing a match better balance

maybe we could get amiss cheaper. he's still very young and plenty of upside and talent.

but he is a wa boy, so treacy (bendigo) might be a better target?

LJ has had one Jack Dyer "good ordinary" season at the Shockers in three years and isn't currently ranked in the best 50 players in the game. I would certainly have him back at Melbourne, but the Garry Meadows "Price is Right" must apply.

Amiss has such strong Weideman vibes.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
