Melbourne will welcome fans to Casey Fields this afternoon, for the first Beyond Bank Family Series event of 2025.

The open training session will begin at 3:00pm, with a player signing opportunity from 6:00pm.

Weather conditions expected - particularly cloudy and windy with some rain late in the day.

Honestly a weird start time for a family event considering that's still around the same time of school still on/pick ups.

It's almost as though they don't want anyone to come. Why couldn't they have it Saturday or Sunday?

Probably not in the union agreement!

There’s been some really ‘odd’ decisions this preseason across the AFL clubs and their choice of family days. At least this isn’t as bad as Essendon who did theirs on a Tuesday night during Week One of the new school term.

I’ve been here for 45 mins (force of habit, a couple of us got here at the same time we would were we putting on a sausage sizzle)

Apart from MFC staff, vendors and security staff there’s literally no one here. The Mr Whippy lady was told to expect 2,500 people, so for her sake I hope once the school day finishes there’ll be a flood of  people through the gates.

This is what’s on offer from the Casey canteen:

Serious question: Does Ed Langdon ride his bike to training at Casey?

If he did it would be gone by the time he'd finished.

Big tackle form Viney on Oliver on the wing results in an incorrect disposal and turnover.

Fritsch marks strongly and converts.

Lever in it already with a massive spoil.

Are we expecting a full match sim today?

Yep.

Fritsch marks a bullet from Salem. Attempts to pass off to Max in the pocket from 35 and turns over.

Fritsch gets the ball back from a white team turnover and snaps truly. His second in the first quarter.

Hore could easily be in contention for a spot down back. Although playing on the ‘white’ team, he doesn’t miss a beat. Very capable.

McAdam takes a two-touch overhead mark out of the square. Misses from a slight angle, 25m out.

Sounds like he still has the same issues as last year

AJ playing forward for the whites. His strength and marking ability are really something. He has ‘presence’.

McAdam will play R1 barring injuries IMO. In everything, and has pace. Snapped and makes amends for his earlier miss. He’s moving very freely.

This is awesome BLWNBA. If possible could you please provide an update on which of the fringe players are on the ‘A’ team for match sim?

Bit hard to see where I am and I have one eye on my little fella; but I’ll do my best.

Sharp is playing forward the ‘A’ team; as is McAdam. Turner, Fritsch and McAdam are all playing in the ‘ones’ (so to speak). Lindsay is out there too (not necessarily these players are the traditional ‘fringe’, with the exception of McAdam).

Langford seems to get bigger every time I see him in real life.

Fritsch could’ve finished with four in the first but is on 2.1.

sounds like they've gone in optimistically; might come out misty optically

Bowey, Petty, McDonald, Lever are the starting backs with Salem, and Riv off the back flanks for the ‘A’ team. Howes also lining up on AJ.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
