I’m thinking jeffo will play round 1.

JVR, Turner, Jeffo

fritch, macadam, chandler

interchange: melk

The combinations of Langford/Petracca will take one of those spots

Shane-o has a very slight hammy niggle. Nothing to worry about. He acknowledged he’s greatly improved fitness-wise and is very happy with where he’s at both physically and mentally. He admitted he wasn’t in a good place when he first came to us and said this was largely due to adapting to living in Melb taking a lot longer than expected, and being injured.

I reckon the club’s patience will pay off, and will do so sooner rather than later 👊🏼❤️💙

If he’s tweaked his hamstring it may just show his body is no longer able.

Good question because I felt the mood was a little flatter than usual today and two fellow track-watchers agreed. But two other track-watchers who’d spent most of the time on the opposite side of the ground said there was still the awesome vibes we’ve had of late. I just put it down to the players on our side playing a match sim of sorts and the players on the other side doing whatever they were doing 🤷‍♀️

He made a point of saying it’s nothing, he can’t even feel anything amiss at all, the club is simply not taking even the slightest unnecessary chance. I hadn’t asked him about it, he brought it up and the thing with Shane is that he can’t hide when he’s bummed out over an injury. It really shows. But he is just as buoyant and confident as he has been lately and that’s very telling.

Yes the feeling is really good but perhaps the novelty of 'getting the band back together' has warn off a tad, even for the track watchers?  And the grind of preseason training is kicking in.

And I wouldnt be surprised if some of those in rehab dream about running the boundary.

And on another matter, as a track watcher you can get really close to the action at times.  With that in mind Salems vision is extraordinary, identifies the target in a split second; and it helps when they are well drilled.

Yes he would have to be deemed to be medically unable to play this season. If it was confirmed now however, we could sign a player before the end of the SSP period on Feb 21.

Here's the laws of the game part covering it:

26. Inactive List

26.1 Inactive List (a) A Club may apply to the General Counsel or Executive General Manager of Football to transfer an AFL Player suffering a season ending injury or has retired from its AFL Primary List or Category A Rookie List to its AFL Inactive List. (b) A season ending injury means an injury or illness suffered by a Player which, in the opinion of the AFL Medical Director, after consultation with the Club Medical Officer, will prevent or is likely to prevent a Player, having due regard to their health and safety, from participating in Matches for the remainder of the relevant AFL Season.

26.2 Approval of the AFL (a) A Player may only be transferred to the Inactive List with the Player’s consent and with the approval of the General Counsel. (b) Where a Club proposes to transfer a Player to the Inactive List, the following procedure shall apply: (i) an Officer of the Club shall as soon as practicable, complete an “Application for Inclusion on Inactive List” in the form prescribed in Schedule 1 as Form 43 (“the Application”); (ii) the Officer of the Club and the Club Medical Officer shall sign the Application, where applicable; (iii) the Player shall sign the Application as evidence of their consent to being transferred to the Inactive List; (iv) the Officer of the Club shall lodge the Application with the General Counsel, together with supporting evidence which verifies that the Player is suffering from a season ending injury or has retired; (v) the General Counsel may in their absolute discretion, approve or disapprove the transfer of the injured Player to the Club’s Inactive List or require such further medical evidence, including without limitation a medical report from a duly qualified medical practitioner approved by the General Counsel, prior to determining whether to approve or disapprove the transfer; and (vi) where the General Counsel gives their approval, the injured Player shall from that time be deemed to be included on the Club’s Inactive List. (c) The transfer of a Player to a Club’s Inactive List under this Rule 26.2 shall not take effect until the General Counsel has notified their approval under Rule 26.2(a). Where the General Counsel does not approve the transfer of the injured Player to the Club’s Inactive List, they shall notify the Officer of the Club and the Application shall be of no effect.

26.3 Eligibility Subject to Rule 26.5, a Player who is transferred to the Inactive List is ineligible to play in the AFL Competition or in any other Australian Football competition for the period 100 from the date that Player is transferred to the Inactive List until the conclusion of the relevant AFL Season.

26.4 Replacement Player (a) Where a Player is transferred to the Inactive List a Club may replace that Player by selecting a replacement player during the Pre-Season Supplemental Selection Period or at the mid-AFL Season Draft Selection Meeting. (b) A Club is unable to replace an AFL Player transferred to its AFL Inactive List after the conclusion of the mid-AFL Season Draft Selection Meeting.

26.5 Transfer from Inactive List to Primary List (a) A Club may, subject to that Club having an available List position, make written application in the form prescribed in Schedule 1 as Form 43A to the General Counsel for the transfer of a Player from its Inactive List to the Club’s Primary List or Category A Rookie List in the relevant AFL Season that Player was transferred to the Inactive List provided that the Club Medical Officer or the medical practitioner who has treated the Player certifies that the Player has recovered from their injury sufficiently to allow the Player, having due regard to their health and safety, to play in a Match and such certification is lodged with the application. (b) The General Counsel may in their absolute discretion, approve or disapprove an application under Rule

26.5(a) for the transfer of a Player to the Club’s Primary List or require such further medical evidence, including without limitation, a medical report from a duly qualified medical practitioner approved by the General Counsel, prior to determining whether to approve or disapprove the transfer. (c) The transfer of a Player back to a Club’s Primary List or Category A Rookie List under Rule

26.5(b) shall not take effect until the General Counsel has notified their approval. Where the General Counsel does not approve the transfer of the Player back to the Club’s Primary List or Category A Rookie List, they shall notify the Officer of the Club and the Application shall be of no effect.

26.6 Consultation The General Counsel may consult with the AFL Medical Director prior to exercising their discretion to approve or disapprove a transfer under Rule 26.2 or 26.5

So the simplest solution (if one was heading in that direction) is an agreed "retirement"?

Beautiful morning at the paddock. The full field drill was skilful and done with plenty of vocal support.

One drill was a completive one on two contest, defender double tackles, was encouraged.

The sims started with Goody going slowly through the intention and set up. Then they competed in 3 or was it 4, 6 minute sets. Tackling was a lot more gentle than previous hit outs.

May looking very fit, and getting intercepts and fists to many of the opposition's forward pushes.

Tmac covering the ground well and vocal in the backline as was Petty.

Max is running very hard and creating mismatches in the forward area.

Langford found space on the lead and twice finished nicely.

They played the boundaries, out of the backline, when looking central only half came off.

Chaplin working on the forwards defensive setup.

Mids separated to drills. Under the guidance of Radford, Whitford and Jones, they worked with Gawn and Campbell, most of the plays ended with a contested scramble.

Forwards and back tall's, worked mainly with one on one or off the bag for marks and the follow-up groundball.

Running was emphasised, as they develop match fitness. Those that didn't do the k's in sims, ran extra sprints. Some backs and forwards had more running sets.

My impression is that there is so much pressure for spots, and they are getting competitive.

This mystery F/S or academy player has me intrigued.

First thought was perhaps Kynans younger brother Ryder might be getting a tour. Wouldn't have thought there would be need for secrecy though.

Thanks for the report mate!

This really worries me, it doesn't sound like much has changed in our gameplan. Which if true, will be extremely disappointing.  Doesn't matter who we add or remove from the best 23 if the gameplan is still as ineffective, boring  and predictable as it has been the past few years.....

I guess the practice matches will be our real fist chance to see how we have evolved, but have any of the regular track watchers noticed a substantial shift in the way we attack/move with the ball?

The taller of the two was Noah Yze, and the smaller wasn't the "secret" F/S I was led to believe. I expect Culley, George and Yze all suit up for Casey and we see what happens mid-year, unless there are any developments before Feb 21, when teh final list must be lodged, as mentioned by DistrACTION Jackson.

Before Christmas I was noticing some focus on very precise kicking into the forward line. By precise, they seemed to be focussing on shorter, sharper kicks to direct hit-up leads. Doesn't sound like rocket science, but does suggest a change of emphasis of some sorts. Today there was a clear emphasis on switches from the backline if the obvious 45 degree kick from defence was not on. That could be a strength of ours with the likes of Windsor, Langdon and Sharp. I noted that some times, once the switch was effected, the wingers would head back to Bowser or Windsor back in the corridor. Again - pretty obvious stuff - trying to avoid turnovers in dangerous areas until the corridor kick was safer.

There have been some sessions when they go fast and find an attacking corridor. Some wind was blowing straight down the middle as well. Could have been a matter of trying different styles. Though you could be right. Playing safe doesn't make for beating the best sides. As for the practice match, there will be plenty of maybe best 23 giving it a go and the game plan may be held untill round 1.

In any case it will be an interesting start to our year.

In Chaplin I trust, as a change up to the forward line.

They were doing some marking high ball one on ones at start of training and he owned Jeffo so assuming they must have been taking score.

re: Kosi, a melb admin guy walked past me on the phone saying “nah just personal reasons” assuming was taking a call about it.

Langford kicked some beauty’s in match sim.

Salem and Fritsch ultra competitive in end of training goal kicking practice. Must have had something riding on it.

I was chasing my kids around mostly, so there ends my ordinary training report. Go dees.

Jed Adam’s was a long way off the pace last year and I haven’t heard too many people attending training suggest he is knocking the door down to get an AFL debut anytime soon

If he was owning Jeffo then what does this suggest about Jeffo and how he is progressing - if he’s being easily beaten by Adam’s I have doubts that he can compete at AFL level

Hopefully they are both looking much better

Reports suggest Adam’s has had a solid preseason. He’s a big boy and marking contests always favour the backmen as he just has to spoil, much much harder when you have to mark, especially against a guy your size.

I’m desperate to see Jeffo succeed as I feel a player of his type would make us so much better.

I watch him closely whenever I’m at training. Physically he’s a tick, definitely has an AFL ready body now.

But I’m afraid skill and intensity wise he’s still a long way off. Just my opinion. Sorry @picket fence!
