Gee he was moving well…. If we can get a full season out of him that would be a huge bonus

Confidence is a wonderful thing. Now just to hope he can find some of its bedfellow, continuity.

Round the twist, Lemony Snicket’s and Dance with your Sister. School hols are just about over at Casey Fields. Now, if some of these blokes can translate the vacation promise to term one.

Tom Campbell is standing in for head prefect Maxwell Gawn who’s in rehabilitation at the moment with Matron. Who caan’t get a word in edgeways despite the fractured larynx.

Young Will Verrall’s been thrown in the deep end. He’s recently been promoted from junior school, it shows. Big Tom sings the chorus line from Monty Python with gusto “ I’m a lumberjack and l’m all right”. So Will will just have to be satisfied with yard duty and pick up scraps from around the ground.

Jack Billings fits the bill at Goody’s holiday camp dance class performances. Sibling sisters and cousins preferred as partners of course.

Christian Petracca and Jake Lever are excused, despite recent nuptials and growing young families it’s strictly non-contact. Jake Melksham’s there, he just  continues on his merry way, ensconced in the Senior’s common room.

Last year’s truants Clayton Oliver and Shane McAdam seem to be right on track, having overcome last year’s um … attendance issues. Enrollments are up it’s all about bums on seats.

Kozzy’s back, but was he really gone? Richo set us straight, don’t believe everything you read in The West Australian etc. It elevates circulation and BPM.

Of the new boys, Ricky Mentha Junior looks terrific, should be a breathe of fresh air.

How good would it be if McAdam and Billings have career best seasons…. Will make selection very tough

That would be a very nice problem to have.😁

Who knows? But people tend to write players off too quickly. If McAdam is fitter or Billings either realises this is his last chance or something else clicks for him they will be more valuable.

Oliver looks like a bull out of the gate.
kozzy will be sorely missed
mcadam has real talent

Rivers has presence in the midfield

Tom Campbell will be a good replacement if Gawn is injured

Haha they’re both about to turn 30! They’re not getting any better, they are what they are. The ones we need to really kick on and make a difference are those in the 22-25 bracket like Sparrow, JVR, McVee, Rivers etc.

Yes, they trained at Casey Fields today.

Match Simulation Highlights

One take from that video and from what I saw at training is that Will Verrall won't make it as a ruckman. Tom Campbell absolutely monstered him. He's not tall enough and reliable track watchers say his running is still below standard. I hope we're going to try him as a KP, he has got some ball skills.

The bright side is TC looks very capable of providing depth for Max.

Thought the same about Gawn at one stage.

Verrall stands at 198, it’s too short for a modern day ruckman unless he’s got an amazing vertical leap and can outmuscle and outmatch his opponents around the ground. You’ve got to be able to nullify your opponents ability to find a mid at centre bounces and then out mark them around the ground. Looking at him up against TC and who seriously thinks he can do either of things?

Not sure what we can take out of a Youtube video of highlights of a January match sim, but surely I’m not the only one who watched that and thought I saw a totally different Clarry to the one I saw in 2024?

It’s great to say Clarry is training the house down.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

    TRAINING: Wednesday 5th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
