Are you saying Milky is a Tall ?

Yes. Every time he's played in the last few years at his been as a tall, ideally in that disruptor role on the best interceptors. He doesn't do enough with the ball on the ground to be played as a flanker

I mentioned this months ago but I was reading the Brisbane Lions Bigfooty forum during grand final week. I was checking into to see who would replace Oscar Mac in the ruck. A couple posters suggested that Fullarton could've had the chance to play in a GF had he remained with Brisbane as he wasn't that far below Fort as an option to replace McInerny.

Anyway, another poster chimed in and said that Fullarton and his Dad had a major falling out with the MFC during 2024 and they were most upset with the club at the time. Could be BS, but I'm not sure of the upside of someone making up a story like that on grand final week, on the Lions forum discussing ruck replacements that have nothing to do with Melbourne.

If he doesn't get selected this week I dare say his papers are stamped.

If he doesn't get selected just add it to the complete mismanagement files of Jordon, Bedford, Laurie and Tomlinson.

Out JVR, Fritter

In Johnson Fullarton.

An argument could be had, by some, that the next block of 4 games are our least testing ( personally I think they're all uphill now ) so why not now push the boat(s) out. Anyone suggesting this will jeopardise our finals is ... well... 🙄

If we are stubbornly reserving spots on the sheet we'll never advance.

I'd second this Bubs.

AJ didnt have the greatest game in the twos but his attack at the contest (bringing ball to ground) and manic tackling / pressure is something sorely missing in our F50 at present and the team in general.

While i appreciate Fritta has picked up his involvements and got busier in the last two weeks, he still hasn't hit the scoreboard.

And if he's not finishing then really he just doesn't add enough elsewhere in his game to justify a regular spot imv. He's also competing for that medium forward spot with Melk yes?

Conpetition for spots is also healthy and keeps players on the edge looking for constant incremental improvements in order to stay at the top.

There's also no harm in spending a few weeks at Casey working on some aspects of your game. Some of the best players in the business have been asked to do so on occasions. And often come back refreshed and in a better mind set.

It also allows us to try variations and combos with our forward 50 line up which, until now, has been our Achilles heal for nigh on three seasons.

Had we been able to address this deficiency post LJ (who basically left in 2022 in mind even though body was still out there) & BBB (knees) i dare say we most likely make a GF in 2022 or 23. Maybe both!

Unless you're demoting Melk to sub then we've got a 4 tall forward line without any pressure with that line up, not that Fritsch is great in that regard but he at least offers something at ground level. He's been judged on goals and whilst his missing has been frustrating there's been signs in 3 of 4 games this year that he might make something of the new role he's been asked to play getting up the ground more.

All the focus is on the talls when Geelong play Cameron as a winger half the game and I'm never sure if Shannon Neale is actually a real person. Sydney keep winning with 4 rucks.

If we can get McVee, Lindsay and Kolt back over the next 2 weeks and settle Windsor down we can finally start to line up with something resembling a decent line up of flankers. I'd love an early look at Mentha. And in terms of vital players who aren't in great form the big one is Spargo who we desperately need but I don't think he comes back to his best without another 2-4 weeks minimum at Casey.

Aside from Fritsch's goal kicking and JVR's concrete hands by far the biggest issue is we keep butchering the ball with bat**** crazy decision making and skill execution which leaves us vulnerable on transition. We can get some addition by subtraction if we replace the midfield butchers once we have some reinforcements available.

Mentha feels like quite a distant prospect right now DS. That could change quickly of course but he's struggling at times to hang in there at VFL level for now from what i've seen.

Possibly another pre-season required (at least)?

I hope they're not paper, they'll explode 😁

One thing we don't see much of is people getting dropped for poor form and effort and those in the VFL getting rewarded.

Why wouldn't you drop Fritsch and bring in Jeffo?

It can't be any worse. You may as well give him a chance now.

ABSLUTELY A MILLION PERCENT AGREE WITH THIS, besides if my sources are correct Frittata wont be at MFC in 2026! also no to Johnson, just a battler at best, think a Dave Kelly clone!

You’re most likely right but he’s finding a bit of the ball and laying tackles. Used in small doses he could add some much needed spark that we’re so badly lacking

Lumping JJ and Bedford (who both played a fair bit of footy) in with 2 non afl standard players. Fullarton is more like the latter

Your sources or common sence? Fritta won't play AFL next year if he can't kick goals.

Does anyone seriously think this guy will add much to our team? Clutching at straws.

I’ve stood near him at the huddle against Sandringham practice match

He is a small 200 cm by my judgement and has no bulk at all

Tom McDonald has twice the body size as you would expect and although I would like to see him get a Senior game

He will not match it with big opposition ruckmen

If it was like football 30 years ago when jumping was the major skill of a Ruckman instead of almost pure push and shove of today

Could make it as a pure forward tho

Interesting insight

if JVR had sharper foot skills, I think he'd go well in the back half.

Yes, he seems to enjoy playing from behind and this will give him something to do with his under-performing hands when he gets a lift off the ground.

Fullerton was poor last year in the VFL. I figured he was another delist

But his form has been good so far. Hopefully gets a go soon.

What makes you so sure of this?

Is he already looking around? Would explain his drop in form.

No, he’s not looking around. I don’t know where Pickett gets his info from but I doubt that it’s reliable. Unless Pickett has accurate info from someone inside the Club who has told him the club are offloading Fritta, then no, Fritta’s not leaving our club.

I’m willing to donate some of my bulk.

I'm not sure if Fullarton has the goods, but he's in form and is 200cm, worth a shot.
Even if he's not clunking marks he has some extra reach to try bring ball down for smalls

Why not give him a go for 4-6 weeks, let's find out if he has what it takes.

We need to find a presents down in the forward 50.

The fact that we've had so many of our best players with a foot out the door over the past few years should be enough to get Goodwin sacked on its own.

None of the above had a fair run at it

Thommo was almost BOG v the Pies on Kings Birthday and was dropped - that is a confidence builder

When you choose to bring in players straight back from injury and ignore players that have performed you kill selection integrity - that's Goodwin

Just play the kid.

I feel that there is little to lose, now; he may be approaching that corner about which he could turn.

He’s 26! There’s a reason he’s only played 19 AFL games in that time

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
