Langdon the last good player we took from someone that actually wanted them.

5 years now of being nothing but a farm team for the league to take the likes of Bedford and JJ and now a really classy player that we couldn’t afford to lose.

Rose coloured glasses. Bedford wasn't best 23. And JJ barely and will struggle to get a game next year at Swans.

Don’t care that he lied to a fan. It’s poor but it happens.

Care that he lied to the club for months and that his manager wasted our time and got the club to redraw contracts several times as his demands changed.

And then lied about waiting for a new coach.

Ahhh.. do we know what he actually said to the club ? Again I suspect the club had a better idea about this than many suspect.

Doubt anyone at the MFC has fallen off a chair in shock. More likely to be muttering and nodding heads

He's not part of our next charge up the hill.

If anything now part of the weeding 😉

Yes McVee may have misled a couple of prominent Demonland posters, and yes, McVee and his management may have played the club like a cheap violin… I can handle that, but…

…there is one thing that I simply cannot abide, one thing that I find absolutely outrageous!! No one, not one poster, in all 67 (probably 68 by the time I finish typing this) pages of this thread, has taken the opportunity to use the phrase: “Judd’s grandmother told me…”!!!!!

You lot should be ashamed of yourselves!!

9th in our B+F year 1. 7th last year.

Beaten by a couple of good players when our backline leaked like a sieve.

If you don’t think this is a terrible result for the footy club you’re kidding yourself.

Got no coaches votes this year. Average player rating of just 6.3 (career highest average rating of 9.2 in 2024)

You are really overrating him here. And before you say he's a 3rd year player, Will Ashcroft is also in his 3rd year.

If we could cover it why didn’t Judd play back flank when he came back in to the side?

Maybe 5 years ago Salem sure, but it’s clear as day he wouldn’t have the pace. Maybe if Willie Rioli unretires and doubles the keg he might be able to catch him.

Howes is seen as a lock down defender because he can’t do stuff all else at afl level. But any small forward with any smarts is running rings around him. At Casey he’s an intercepting and rebounding half back which is where he should play at AFL level but the game is too fast for him.

I said last year go and get a lock down back so Judd doesn’t have to do it. But no, Timmy Mutton Lamb and co stick with Marty Hore. This is the result.

Salem just finished top 5 in our B&F and played the lockdown role all year, he knows how to read the play and cut the lines. He had a great year and knows how to keep his opponent in front of him. But, we do need to start looking for a replacement.

Judd didn't play back flank because he isn't better than the ones we have, which is why he is the lock down def. I like Judd, but have never believed the hype other have had on him. he is a good 1v1 def and all clubs need them. But never bought into the midfield or HBF stuff, he isn't better than Bowey, and Rivers in that role.

Welcome to the club!

He said 2 years ago in a pre season feature that he's always wanted to play in WA. I've been waiting since then and never warmed to him as a result.

Best of luck, don't let the door hit you on the way out

Ahhh yes, I was totally benchmarking him against Will Ashcroft, that’s totally what I was doing.

This is highly disappointing.

I have always liked Judd as a player, thought he was humble with a good work ethic and a desire to fit in. A good team player. I know we haven't seen it this year but obviously this decision affected him this year so Freo buying at the right time. I would play hard ball and think the points from a pick 20 would be about right.

We do have a player who had a serious knee injury though in AMW, who has the potential to be better at the back pocket role. He is good one on one and is attacking. I look forward to his rise into a lock in our best 22.

[censored] him

he made his choice

Overall we have an excellent record retaining key players

Try to get a decent pick and move on

You are not understanding what players want and their development.

Bedford is a VFL player and has improved due to maturity and if handled more sympathetically by Simon would have dine this at Dees. But Simon stuck to Premiership players at our expense and we lost Bedford JJ and maybe not giving Judd some more consistent mid time in games at the end of the seasons 2024 and 2025 is partly responsible no Matter what King may have said to him.

Money may well be an issue and if so Dees should stand firm and accept an appropriate compensation or player.

My point is that he's not some superstar talent we're letting go through the door with you calling it a "terrible result for the footy club". I actually think AMW would've overtaken him next year anyway.

Agree. Bedford was not trusted by Goody and he has something we lack...genuine pace. A much bigger loss than JJ who is just a negator. We've been lacking pace for a couple of years and Toby has it in spades. That is one black mark against the coach but they all have their favourites.

Lions are the only team in Brisbane and one of only two teams in QLD. We will always be in competition with 9 other teams pushing up deals and making us pay a premium. Especially that mob that gives players farms, cars and cotton on deals outside the cap. Us being a destination club is so much harder than Brisbane.

Yeah Understandable 9 vic clubs but lions were the only team on brisbane run poorly and bottoming out after the 3 peat and now looking at another 3 in a row with great culture. King and Co have a huge job ahead

Caro was right eh?

When I read this its clear Judd and his management clearly attempted to use the club as leverage.

They also kept this incredibly private.

Wow! What a surprise! The dazzling one is gloating. Going to the trouble of trawling through previous posts to quote me. Would’ve been quicker and easier to just say “nya nya nya you were wrong.” which is the sentiment here. You really are a spiteful person. Step back and take a good look at yourself and you’ll see how childish you are.

Salem’s best and fairest result was a joke. I’m pretty certain we inflated both Christian’s to try to offload both. Yes, he’s a veteran quality half back who knows the role but he was beaten by anyone quick and/or dangerous. Not to mention his disposal that even helicopter parents thought was too safe.

Judd was the Salem replacement, now we have to start again probably with a middling pick in a [censored] draft.

Judd had work to do in his half back play. But he needed the opportunity to do that work. He has tools Rivers seemingly will never have which is poise and control with his short kicking.

I'm sure Lamb and Taylor will be eager to replace McVee with 4 WA boys in this years draft so nothing to see here.

On a serious note, if Moniz-Wakefield recovers well from his injury he can make that position his own next season.

  • AFLW REPORT: Gold Coast

The forecast said wind. The ladder said mismatch. The scoreboard said obliteration. Melbourne didn’t just beat Gold Coast — they dismantled them: 13.15 (93) to 0.6 (6). An 87-point obliteration, the Suns held goalless, and the Demons delivering their second-highest winning margin and third-highest score in AFLW history.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #28 Will Verrall

It was a tough ask for him to break through as a 199cm ruckman in the shadow of an all-time great in that position who is also the club captain. He had some good days at Casey but was unable to progress and was delisted at the end of the season.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #29 Tom Campbell

The 33-year-old Campbell has yet to play AFL football for Melbourne, but his Casey form has been strong and he has been retained as a ready-made ruck depth option who is widely regarded as someone who is excellent for the culture of the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #30 Harry Sharp

The Demons acquired an interesting player in Sharp, who narrowly missed securing a spot in the Lions’ premiership team last year. The 22-year-old medium forward played in the opening round this season and ended up with 18 senior games, although he was substituted in or out in for ten of those matches. He demonstrated glimpses of form, but ultimately ended the year on the margins of the team.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Gold Coast

On Friday, the Demons return to our Casey Fields fortress where they have a 77% win rate. The scent of September is in the air and the struggling Suns are on the horizon. The Cranbourne weather forecast? Ominous, like the match itself: a strong chance of carnage. Let’s be honest, last week’s first half against the West Coast was a training drill but we dropped our guard in the final quarter. While this match is a mismatch on paper — second versus seventeenth — football is won in the wind, the contests, and the moments.
