Luke Jackson the day after draft night with his new mfc jumper on having a break from talking to media at docklands said to me he has been to melb with sports rep sides many times and loved it and he knew he would likely leave WA anyway and was very happy

Unlike Judd, Luke had no ties in Melbourne.  Judd's girlfriend is not only living in Melbourne, but also plays at the same club.  Plus, what would the incentive be for her to go to WA, when she's not from there?

Not a fan of seeing him in the midfield.  Don't mind they gave it a crack late in the year with nothing to lose to see how he'd go, but he's far more valuable as an asset down back.

Agreed. They gave him some minutes in the midfield against Collingwood and he couldn’t crack double figures in possessions.

He doesn’t scream inside midfielder to me and should remain as our premier small defender who takes the oppo’s most dangerous small forward.

Nick Daicos was similar when they moved him into the midfield he wasn’t as damaging initially. Think they ended up moving him back to HB

Semantics.

Call it what you will. We all got the tone and it was unpleasant and unnecessary.

edit: Judd told me he’s feeling great for a Monday morning. Can’t believe a bloody word that kid says 😉

Nothing to do with Judd as an individual, but in the light of tight AFL salary caps this news shows how small our competition is, compared with the crazy financial world of sport in the United States.

Juan Soto is staying in New York, but he won't be with the Yankees.

Instead, the New York Mets, long believed to be a frontrunner to land the 26-year-old superstar, have landed him on an MLB-record $765 million contract over 15 years, according to multiple reports.

That astronomical number gives Soto the largest contract in professional sports history.

Absolute gun baseballer is Juan Soto.

And that's real US dollars or A$1.2 Billion !!!

100% agree. Not all good players have to go into the midfield.

Wait till Kane Cornes hears about this... he will self-combust.

Hope Judd does stay. Probably our best user of the footy. Doesn’t get the credit he deserves outside of our club which means I think we would get unders for him.
I’m not as across players wages but given he was on the rookie list I’m assuming he wasn’t in massive coin. It’s time for his agent to earn his coin and get Judd a good deal- if he gets offers on the table from the WA clubs it pushing up what we will have to pay to keep him.

And we are lovers of the " general vibe" here on DL.

And ironically some of those who aren't are often the very same people who banged on about the club being in crisis because 'where's there's smoke there's fire' - you know, the general vibe.

Surely we are talking only about Nick Daicos levels not the ordinary AFL ones which Juddy is a little above but not that much.

I’m obviously not saying Judd is on a similar level to Daicos…. I was comparing players going from half back to the midfield

@58er Any reason for the vomit emoji?

Of the many and varied things that attract one to, hold them to, or drive them from a place, the girl/boyfriend one has at age 21 is one of the less reliable, I would suggest?

Oldfart cynicism (/regret/wistfulness/envy)

i am thinking Gavin Wanganeen... as the model for Judd. :)

I don’t like the whole we have to find him a Victorian girlfriend thing but Judd’s girlfriend is a Dees player. She’s a Vic gal.

I ran into Kolt at the AFLW Hawks vs Port final (he was wearing a Hawks scarf but we’ll let that slide since his girlfriend plays for Hawthorn) and I mentioned that Judd is “dating” Lily (Johnson). Kolt was quick to say they’re not just dating, they’ve been together for a while and it’s serious.

So there’s that.

As if he would say that?? It seems unusual to say the least.

I believe what Judd McVee says on face value, he has no reason to lie, he is a Member of the Dees “Mouse Pack”. He’s a future “team first” leader and will be remunerated in line with his standing, experience and future potential. Judd isn’t a runner, he’s a potential 200-250 game star for the MFC. Also he doesn’t play baseball??? We seem to be casting around for reasons why he would leave rather than focusing on the reasons why he will stay. Grrrrrr…!!

WoK just because you think something doesn’t mean that you have to say it, casting aspersions about conversations that you didn’t witness is just plain hurtful and unnecessary.

Does it?! I guess it’s second hand info and you always have to allow for the Chinese whispers but if part of the conversation went along the lines of “Hey Kolt I see your the latest of our young players to start dating one of the AFLW players, isn’t Judd dating Lilly Johnson?!”

Kolt- “ oh they have been dating a long while now, seems serious.”

Hardly that unusual a comment I wouldn’t have thought

Always a danger taking anyone from wa particularly with wc down the bottom they can afford to make offers we can’t hope to match, the only upside is we will get some good compensation back if it comes to pass. I’d hope he stays as he could be anything and I hate to see that happen somewhere else, reminds me of what happened with Scott Thompson back in the day.

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

  • AFLW REPORT: Western Bulldogs

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
