In Menthaโ€™s case, he counts as a Cat B because he was an NGA player who nominated for the National Draft but was not drafted in the main draft. Tyntynder is not in any district associated with Melbourne, so how can he be rookied as a Category B?

Yeah, I was answering Dazzle's statement about Mentha

Agree - until he kicks it - they can literally go anywhereย

I thought he did ok in his cameo with Casey but he is a rough diamond that will need a bit of polishing and commitment from him to stay on courseย

Does have some raw ability thatโ€™s a factย

I don't know how the Demons can get him as a Category B rookie, especially due to the rules.

But perhaps, we can apply for a special exemption if we ask the AFL "really" nicely? ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ

The lack of Indigenous players in the AFL currently and the fact that we missed out on Mac Andrew and seem to be unfortunately (unfairly) missing out on Tairon Ah-Mu may give us some sympathy from the AFL?

LOL ๐Ÿ˜‚ sympathy from the AFL for the MFCย

More chance of Joe Biden winning the next US electionย

Watched one of his Casey games this year (how many did he play?), and the kid was simply electric - all the skills you canโ€™t teach - whilst seemingly having none of the learned โ€˜systemโ€™ traits. The commentators were beside themselves, so I donโ€™t know how he wouldโ€™ve have escaped other clubs attention. If he can be taught, and fit in/improve to elite levels, wow!ย

I've seen him play a few games at Tyntynder after finishing up my time there a couple years back.

Very exciting to watch and seems to just make the players around him stand still whilst he zigs and zags between.

I actually don't think he is as good as Kayle Kirby who came from the club a few years before.ย  Kayle played some wonderful footy in the VFL before getting a game with the pies.ย

Kayle was a better kick and only just made it where as Roy is far more professional and more likely to get the best out of himself.

He's a ripping kid, full of life and laughs to make himself known and enough dedication on and off the track to give it a crack.

Iโ€™ve got a personal connection to Roy as well and thatโ€™s the common theme - heโ€™s a top guy who is jovial and engaging but willing to work super hard.ย

Comes from a broader friendship group of Kozzy which can only be a good thing them both having Roy at the club currently.ย

Played against this bloke years ago just after he left Collingwood. Without doubt one of the most naturally gifted players I've come across at country league level.

Really sad that he had to retire from AFL level with his heart condition.ย

If we want him do we have the pick?

We have one Category B rookie spot left.

He clearly qualifies as a Cat. B rookie otherwise Richo wouldnโ€™t be talking about โ€œgetting the paperwork finalisedโ€ and JT wouldnโ€™t have said โ€œWeโ€™ve invited him to train this week. But nothingโ€™s sorted yet.โ€

Roy was at Casey for a few games last year. He kicked a few goals against Williamstown and looked quite spectacular at timesย  but ran out of puff. He played a few more games during the remainder of the season and was billed as Kozzy's uncle but I'm not sure if that's the case or whether they are bound together in some way that allows him to be described that way. They certainly had some affinity to one another and if he trains with the club on a regular basis, who knows?

I think however, it might be a stretch to claim him as a Category B player. Surely, it would be sufficient at this stage for him to be on the Casey list with the opportunity to be taken in the next midseason draft if a list vacancy arises.

That seems to go against what Ghostwriter was saying.

If you are correct and he is only on the Casey list and he plays well, we can say goodbye to him, as he will go before our pick.

There must be more to this if Richo is doing the paperwork and not the Casey footy admin.

It is still not 100% certain if we have an A or a B rookie spot.

As I understand the rules he is more likely to qualify as an A-rookie having nominated for but not selected in a National draft.ย  This would enable us to take him as a 'train-on' player and contract him under the SSP rules.ย  afaik the SSP rules don't allow for contracting a B-rookie ...

... the AFL is forever messing with the rules (and not communicating them clearly) and is good at 'exceptions' so who knows ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

I have no doubt the heart condition was one thing but I'm not sure he was doing that well transitioning to the full time commitment.ย  Note - that's just my opinion and I don't really have anything to back that up other then seeing him as a chilled out kid who didn't quite have the drive.

It's interesting that he has still been playing since and still going wonderfully showing off his talents.

I believe he is the nephew of everyone's favourite back pocket Neville Jetta.ย ย

Iโ€™ve met Roy before. Twice interstate at the airport, both times he was with Kozzie. Yesterday I didnโ€™t recognise him so when he came over to say hello he reminded me that weโ€™ve met before. Therefore I just thought he was that goofy cheeky friend of Kozzieโ€™s. I didnโ€™t know he was a player himself. Richo came over and shook his hand and said โ€œall good for this week?โ€ They chatted for a minute then Richo said, โ€œ weโ€™ve just gotta finalise the paperwork and that.โ€

Richo walked away and Roy looked at me with that raised eyebrows look that says itโ€™s all happening. I said โ€œis Richo adopting you? Is he gonna be your Dad?โ€ We laughed and thatโ€™s when he explained the situation.

There definitely wasnโ€™t any โ€˜Casey vibesโ€™ about it.ย

Worth a punt as a Cat B for SURE!!! Massive X-Factor and if he could be anything either side of ledger but saw him at Casey LY & recall my notes โ€œwish this kid was on senior list, AFL lvl traitsโ€ so Iโ€™m glad, itโ€™s a free but being Cat B so smart by list team and gives Kos another close acquaintance to feel even more comfortable as well.

I'm making this assumption based on zero information.

But I think we actually 'hid' George this year.

I think we invited him down to Casey to get some exposure and see how he'd go, then realise soon enough in his performances that he had AFL traits immediately which meant we then had to hide him again. If some remember he played a couple of earlier games then completely vanished without any fuss.

We've then told him not to nominate for the draft as that would have increased the risk of him being picked up by anyone in an open draft with the promise that we would be inviting him down to trial for us.

It now makes sense why we chose not match the bid on Riak Andrew and I have absolutely no doubt that we still wouldnt have selected Andrew even if he had gotten through to the rookie draft.

We deliberately kept that Category B spot open with the thought all this time that we would be inviting George down to then trial and have fitst dibs on him.

This is all guesswork on my behalf.

About time we kept things close to our chests (hidden intents).

I have just quickly scanned the AFL rules and I think he may possibly qualify as an over age NGA or Academy Player or former Academy Player or even by decision of the AFL General Counsel on discretionary grounds looking at all the circumstances.

I guess we will know in the near future.

Don't quote me on the above, as it was a mere quick scan of some of the Rules on Rookies.

Could be the AFLโ€™s payback over the Mac Andrew fiasco but that wasnโ€™t really the AFLโ€™s fault. The public was calling for change after the Bulldogs got JUH on the cheap.

Don't think it's payback, as the rules are there for every team.

It's whether he fits the criteria or not.
