PRESEASON TRAINING: Friday 15th November 2024

Featured Replies

Got down for a quick look. Had a tennis game to go to so only got a glimpse.

One particular drill involved a keepings off via kicks. They were looking for space and accuracy. One of Choco's gems was "see the space before you get the ball, so you know where to move to"

Saw some sims. They players love it. Once into the bibs and no bibs, I could see the joy on their faces (let's get into it kinda joy).

The backline passed it around until a lead up field was "on". Goody was hanging in this area. Then they were getting a flood going. Often finding another pass or an outside run. Bowey was doing some beautiful passes. Looks like he has really matured in his execution, good vision and decision making. The ball went quickly into the forwards. There were three of them and doing hard leads in all directions, though with the pattern that Chaplin wants.

I get the impression that they may resort to getting as many mids around the contest as possible and having a very high forwrad set up.

Petty is strong, healthy and having plenty of involvement.

Rivers has filled out, looking big and fit.

JVR is working on creating separation, seems to be getting off the blind area of defenders, as he makes leads towards the goal from a high up field position.

I thought Tholstrup's kicking is improving. His greatest assets are the intensity, the leadership and support. When Kentfield had a error he was the first and only one to get over to him with reassurance.

Laurie is moving and executing those disposal well, AMW is the same. Woey is playing very sturdy footy. K.Brown has lots of upside, speed and a natural footy brain.

Unsure about Sestan. Good skill set but is he going to be able to get to the ball and perform when the speed increases from VFL to AFL. He was getting rushed. Would really like to him develop some explosive 5/ 10 meters runs. I've only seen the one gear.

Going to be lots of pressure for spots, as I reckon the the second tier of players are looking great.

Have to say Clarrie doesn't look in great nick, needs to have a massive pre season. Hope he hasnt checked out.

What we can say is he's in much better shape than when he turned up this time last year. He is also in better shape than he was in the first half of last season. If he attends all organised training sessions this pre-season, he will be tip-top by round 1.

I suppose that's far, but if you compare him to someone like Trac who spent his holiday's training. They're miles apart in professionalism.

There's professionalism then there's commitment.

Apologies, Google doesn't do it for me either, I asked some of my more knowledgeable acquaintances also.

Demonland is a haven for some to hand wring, disparage other posters and supporters, bemoan recruiting, training, coaches, administration, media team et al.

He is a fitness coach on the rise.

But yet you did...

Good to see Clarry back and happy. From the photos taken at training, he looks he will need every day of preseason to be hard fit for round 1. Hopefully the drive is still in him.

Those hands of Clarry are working well again.

Why don't you do some research, he has been building a resume as a fitness/conditioning coach, obviously has impressed.

This sort of rubbish is what I was talking about saty.

Why the angst?

Was a perfectly reasonable question.

And a reasonable response is tom didn't make it as a player, but not because of effort.

He was extremely well regarded at the dees in terms of his commitment to training and preparation and was extremely fit.

Also was respected for his attitude and made a positive impact on culture.

A great get to have him back at the club.

Now THAT is good news!!

I'd like to know just how people can see the fitness of Clarrie in photos. He's always had that pale complexion and solid build that never photographs well. I'm glad to see some strength back in his legs. If you look across the group there's clearly a focus on building muscle for power and speed over the offseason

Thanks to all for the great reports, looking forward to getting to a couple of training sessions over summer as well

Bring on 2025

My apologies, didn't realise I had a separate rule just to myself on how to reply to posters.

I hadn't followed his post MFC career closely, so did some catch up.

Heard some good reports

Rather than what seemed to me a run of the mill pre judgement that is prevalent on here.

I thought it is another shrewd recruitment along with Bassett and  Chunk.

I actually absorb as much news about my club as I can, this means if I talk to anyone from the club, I come from an informed position.

Why I enjoyed WCW reports, put a human face on the players, good to see the reports are still happening, despite the efforts of the 'Boys Club' on here

You do have the choice of putting me on ignore like I have done upon returning to a select few posters.

I have an opinion, which is neither right or wrong but it is MY opinion.

People are so easily offended these days.

Used to be the [censored] had to cross all the way over the line.

I remember when nobody got offended unless you used a naughty word or suggested that the Ark story pre-dates the bible and there might be something very wrong going on at a boys school in Ballarat.

My 'source' told me a theme of the exit interviews was as expected, take a mental break, but we need to be even fitter than before, we lost the edge to run out games

I don't want to put you on ignore because you make a lot of interesting contributions and do have real insight into the club, but those eyerolling moments let you down badly. Seriously, imagine getting snarking at someone for asking a football related question on a football forum.

You really need to follow Clarry on his socials, apart from a few tabs and bevies at the  races, he trained throughout

That's OK I regarded it as pre-judgement, perhaps wrongly, not a fan of that.

Like training is training, so not a fan of reporting the minutiae more interested as some have reported on, the mental side, the few sessions I attended last pre season, the physical effort was there but the fun had gone along with the determination.

Sounds like the review has had an impact already, but the proof occurs at the end of March not mid November.

I don't care if somebody misses a kick or handball, 4 months to get it right.

First thing I noticed 'Dee'...

As you say hard to judge fitness from a photo, but he's looking pretty good to me.

Preseason is synonymous for two things, unbridled optimism and Saty acting holier than thou.

Holier tha thou, I just have an opinion, I don't sulk and pout if some don't agree.

I don't care, I do not need others seal of approval

I have thoroughly enjoyed the reports and picture, it is a forum, open for discussion, all viewpoints

I was pleased with the love for Clarry it bodes well for him to be back to his best.

Again put me on ignore, I have already reciprocated

Happy for you to have an opinion, you just need to let others have one too - even if it is dead against what you think

Looks like Chandler might be doing some more midfield/high half forward this season perhaps replacing Nibbler’s role.

Perfect replacement for Nibbs. Team first, always. Leadership. Super important role for us next year.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
