They are thinking about it

Today isn't for dancing on graves and popping champagne corks, not for me anyway.

I think the right decision has been made by all involved and it's now time to look to the future.

Yeah - cos they just haven't been serious.

I think it’s obvious we dropped minimum standards for a number of reasons inclusive of reaching the summit. The team 1st approach across the board as not been there like it was.

The players should have enough desire after this season to raise the standards again as a group to reach their full potential.

Slightest drop off at AFL level has big implications

This is good but too late

Has left his last two clubs in a mess

Hopefully he has left us in a similar mess to how he left the Pies

Those that cannot praise Pert for the part he played in us winning a flag are just embarrassing themselves

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with the change and he has made mistakes but he was here from 2018-2024 and played an important role in us being financially stable and winning a flag

Chairperson and CEO both gone within a month. Both left under a cloud.

Not great by any score

You could feel it coming from the moment he reportedly shopped Oliver around.

Anyway we move forward but hell we are great at turning what should be a glory period for the club into a shambles

Barlow massive positive too. Bonafide billionaire.

Maybe they can both solve the 40 year riddle of finding our way back home to the G. Yarra Park training base back on the cards, perhaps?

If I was a billionaire I can confirm there would be no issue with funding the home base...

What cloud, according to reports they both made the decision to leave, you mean the cloud that Barrett et al like to hang over the club. "supposedly"

sometimes you need to read between the lines but this time the lines are as wide as broad gauge railway lines.

Anyway as I said let's see what the future brings

"Now is the right time for me and the right time for the club."

Well played Gary Pert on your achievements at the club and in the gracious way in which you are handling your departure given the circumstances.

You steered the club through potentially treacherous waters to win our first AFL/VFL premiership in 57 years, our first AFLW premiership a McClelland Trophy, two further top four finishes, record memberships and unprecedented financial strength.

We look forward to your seeing us through to the conclusion of negotiations to secure a state-of-the-art training and administration base at Caulfield Racecourse Reserve.

Thanks to you for all of your efforts for the betterment of the club.

I think him for being part of the team that achieved a flag in my lifetime :).

I guess looking back he is great in the short term but hasn't developed the skills/knowledge for building a long term sustained culture given his exit from the pies and us.

Is the consultant a parachute decision to ease the exit for him?

Surely we find a CEO like Jackson who knew to stay out of the FD and let those professionals run it and concentrate on the business side and supporting the staff.

Just been announced Pert is stepping down.  Hope those of you calling for his head are happy.  It's one thing being president, quite another to be CEO, given Pert has been the one that has put the club in its best financial position in the club's history, I hope you all have a competent person in mind to take over.

Not that I was a Pert-must-go, more a Pert sceptic, I offer you Josh Mahoney. Favoured for the job once before. Now at the AFL.

I was thinking of him. But why would he want to leave the AFL, what is his current role there.

And I hate to admit but maynard was clearly shepherded under the ball and should have received a match saving free. Pert as ceo at the time

It doesn't reflect on how bad our administrations were before Pert, does it?

Good move re caulfield. Such a big job to get the deal then the build  - the club would need to employ a project consultant anyway to lead delivery anyway. May as well be Gary.

 Not the ceo's role

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
