David Chippendall is a finance person.  Does that mean he knows how to manage an organisation?

Hardly a surprise. Several media commentators predicted this saying his position was untenable after the "Clarry to Geelong" saga.

Let's hope we replace him with a quality person.

I am curious and annoyed that neither the Pert resignation nor the Jones selection haven’t been announced on the MFC website, do they have paralysis, surely that is where we should have heard this information.

At least these leaks aren't from Tom Morris!!

But it would be better if the leaks stopped altogether.

Wasn't there a bit of friction between PJ & the Board at the end ? I seem to recollect that PJ made recommendations about the new CEO which were ignored.

Let's see.  He oversaw the developments at Casey Fields.  He has got us closer than any other CEO to a home base with the Caulfield proposal.  He has got the club in the best financial shape it's every been in.  He has seen us get to the highest membership in the club's history.

Just reporting the facts, the media got it exactly right, whereas according to you all of our 2024 disasters are just a beat up.

A lot of enterprise businesses see CFO’s and COO’s as logical candidates for future CEO’s.

Running a $50-70m dollar business on an interim basis should pose no problems.

Smug and snide Cranky, he may have had a better offer for all you know. He has resided over a flag at Pies and a Flag at Dee’s built up membership at both clubs and strong financials, so for all his faults he has made both clubs more successful.

If my memory serves me correctly, the president at the time (who we can’t name for evident reasons) basically went out on his own and brought Pert to the club, which blindsided PJ and co. 

This contributed to somewhat of a fallout between PJ and the board (Well, that is if you believe what Caro Wilson wrote regarding the situation).

Wonder if Richo will be following Pert on the way out....

CEOs.... tricky prospect. 

If you happen to be at the top when you're winning, you get praise - even though it's arguable you didn't do much to achieve on-field success. That's on the players, coaches and fitness staff. Pert was a part of our flag in 21. How much depends on how much you think CEOs actually do in this space. If he's responsible for culture, then he was as much part of the overall culture that led to that flag, as he is to where the culture is today - again, depending on how much is true, and what you believe. 

There has been tangible progress for our home base, financials are good, membership is good, so there's that. And that certainly falls within the CEO ambit. 

Anyhoo, all that to say, we've now lost our Pres and CEO after a tough year, and that can't be a coincidence. Heaps of clubs go through lean patches and do not have change at that level because it's easier to point the finger at the coach. It's clear there is a view that there must be change. Perhaps the review was revealing that. 

Hopefully we trade up and bring in someone excellent who will achieve the things we have identified need addressing.

Agree Katrina.

There is a tendency to act like vultures on a carcass when someone leaves a club. It is pretty poor.

He also was the boss when we won a flag and we put together a consistent finals team.

Who was the last Ceo to do that, Jum Cardwell 60 years ago?

We should thank him for his contribution and move on to our next stage.

What I would like to see is a photo on November 21 of our draftees and Sharp, together with Tracc and Clarry, with the byline, Dees stars commit to their best footy, their long term future at the Dees, developing the newbies and getting us our next flag.

That will enthuse us and shut up a few others.

Are there any former MFC players with the skill and experience to step into the CEO role? 

Just going to take a little breath to enjoy how there has not been a single media speculation about this being 'on the cusp' in the week or two leading up to it.

The article about this on the AFL website literally bumped out the 'What should be the Demon's priorities this off-season' chat from apparently 'star' reporters Barrett and Edwards posted last night.

I’m guessing this leaves an opening for the club to say goodbye to one more player on the senior list?

Not sure that clarifies much.  Some will see it as Pert jumped before being pushed.  Some will see it differently.  We will never know.

The para I quoted above is now preceded by this comment in the latest version of the article by The Age:

(Pert) had been discussing a mid-2025 retirement with Roffey before she stood down.

Context is everything. 

We had planned an orderly succession at the top with both Roffey and Pert departing at the top.  Circumstances changed and that plan has been brought forward.  No drama.
