Thy had that chance in that patch and only kicks the 2 behinds, unlikely from here. ย really missed Home and her class int he slippery conditions.ย

Had our chances with 2 good players being a late out. ย Even if we win next week and they lose this week I don't think we can catch the bombers.ย

Very proud of that last quarter effort. (Apart from the inaccuracy)

We were out on our feet but just pushed so hard.

Injuries just really destroyed us this year.

Hope Goldy is ok. She looked to be in a lot of distress. That was a nasty know.

Also a big shout out to the demon army. You make us proud.

Thursday night in Cairns and you're flying the flag @Katrina Dee Fanย and @walkingcivilwar

ย

valiant effort. plenty of perspiration but no inspiration

2 great chances to kick goals but unfortunately, we squibbed them. and thats the game

Hawks the better team overall and deserved the win

mathematically possible to make finals but chances close to zero

hopefully better luck next season.ย

not all doom and gloom. some great experience for youngsters like Gall and Campbell. We're well set to bounce back next year.

Go Dees

ย

Such a brave effort but Hawks had that little bit extra composure with the ball. So much to admire with this Melbourne team, they gave it their all but a few were running on empty at the end. ย Too bad the AFL have no idea on fixturing and the less said about the umpiring the better. ย Not saying they cost us the game but they were just generally bad.

feels like the story of 2024 - dees had heaps of opportunities and failed to perform when required

Poor take. We have been held back by injury all year. Give us Hore and Colvin and we would have comfortably taken them tonight.

Eliza West player of the match?! Really? Bates and Fleming were far more impactful.

Couldn't have picked a worse time to be injured Hore? Mithen is a spud, should have went to Geelong when she had the chance, must be traded. Fancy playing in Cairns this time of year pathetic scheduling.

i meant both mens and womens

and we still had heaps of opportunities in both -m and -w and failed to capitalise, injuries be damned

Any chance Zanker couldย play in front?

Happens all too often George. She plays for the ball to get to her out the back. Rather see Gall as the deepest forward, because she attacks the ball in the air. Zanker was more effective at half forward.

Also like to see Bannon honour her teammates running into goal. Could have made a difference tonight.

She's not a spud, no one that plays at the level is a spud.

...but I think the game may have passed her by, too easily pushed off the ball and makes to many mistakes.

I think it's time to have a look at Rigoni...

Come on W both teams had to play in Cairns and as I live in Qld, Cairns at this time of year is not too bad. Be worse playing Dec - Feb. Just maybe the Hawks played a bit better and yes with Hore in we may have won but that is now just subject to maybes.

We lost becauseย

overhandballingย

lack of composure with the footy

umpiresย

hawks are a solid teamย

goldrick injuryย

playing in humid cairns in late Octoberย

and โ€ฆย

CAPTAIN Kate Hore is one of two Demons who have been withdrawn from Narrm's clash against Hawthorn in Cairns on Thursday night.

The important midfielder/forward pulled up sore on Thursday morning, and has been withdrawn from the Demons' side as a precaution.

Defender Gabby Colvin, who was named to make her return from concussion against the Hawks, is also a late out after suffering a head knock at training and re-entering concussion protocols.

that was a hefty knock goldy copped there

That was a knee to the head. Umpiring is so bad (and itโ€™s regularly very poor) they didnโ€™t even pay a free kick. In the AFL, thatโ€™s clearly paid. The ump is as right there. ย Sure itโ€™s accidental, but still a free kick. ย Losing Goldrick was a blow. ย Sheโ€™s had a good night and a very good season. ย

Mithen has had an extremely poor year, just turns the ball over, makes very poor decisions with the ball.ย  If it wasn't for our injuries she would and should have been dropped.

Rigoni should have come in 3 weeks ago, is quick runs with the ball and a smart player by hand and foot.

She is a premiership player for the Dees. A little bit of respect please.

She hasn't been good at all this year. If Beasley hadn't been injured, then i'm sure she would be playing instead of Lily. but she's been a great contributor over the journey for us.ย

ย

A mysterious free for Hawksโ€™ first goal.

Later, Bannan ย marked in forward pocket, then a ย strange decision was paid for interference against her. It would have been a tough goal from the angle, but sheโ€™s done it before.

ย We deserved to win.

ย

Blumin hell Mick Sinnear is good. Lost by points, season 95% done and dusted and he delivers pretty much the perfect post match speech. Doesnโ€™t sugar coat it, tells truths and says we will go hard against the Pies next week. Love it.ย

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwinโ€™s summer of love.ย Manyย issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

Weโ€™re back! That was fun. The Mighty Deesโ€™ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commandingย 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
