Trac hasn’t commented as far as I can see or put up anything re Viney Winning ..is to avoid any backlash from not attending? This is the issue with social media that it just can’t be a one way street to build/push your own brand. Understanding the reasons for his silence also disappointing

Me too.

A senior afl staffers a friend was saying how the league are worried they're not growing the game at junior levels . Fewer kids becoming rusted on fans. Why he asked me?.

I said night games. Kids don't go like we all did growing up to 2.10 games every week.

Real issue for them apparently

This is huge for the game. My son played in a under 14s team this year. Of 24 kids in the team, most who have been playing for 6-7 years, I reckon less than 5 would attend games regularly despite loving the game. We have to accept that this is an entertainment issue, not a sport issue, and these kids get more enjoyment from doing than watching, even if it is sitting playing video games. That said, I would much prefer afternoon games to night games.

I believe he said “we don’t boo at Collingwood” when the crowd started booing in response to another club being mentioned

The irony

It was in relation to Daicos getting 38 brownlow votes and not winning. He then went on to say they Congratulate Pat Cripps for winning.

It was a good moment from him, but unlikely to change Collingwood fan behaviour.

Yeah but… “apparently” is working out with a Red Bull in his hand. Too busy to flick through his phone on MFC’s biggest night of the year.

Regarding Brad Green’s speech mentioning the midfield at the first bounce of 2025. I’m certain, someone like Rivers would be feeling a bit miffed. Hopefully he will use that as motivation. A leader who supports the club.

I can tell you, that very question of, “why do the players love Goody so much” is definitely included in the review.

Does anyone get the feeling that Goody's tenure is on shaky ground? I like Goody and believe he is a very good coach, but this is the first time I feel edgy about whether he will survive the review. Maybe he will see out his contract next year if we are travelling well and we make finals.

I don’t see the irony. The man is trying to change the culture of a fanbase. That’s admirable. Don’t think he’ll be successful though, that fan base has been full of bad eggs forever.

He banged on about the 23rd man all last year. He loves it.

The last two pages of this thread have [censored] me off for a number of reasons. I agree that it's pathetic to hang [censored] on the club at every opportunity but it's also pathetic to get on your high horse and tell someone that they're not a supporter when they critique the club's performances. We've seen the worst of these two extremes in this thread alone.

Fwiw, the vast majority of my posts are positive but this is a football forum ffs.

There is difference between making a constructive criticism or critique and backing it up, rather than just whining and saying everybody who doesn't agree with me is delusional.

Agree it is forum where all opinions should be respected, sadly on here that is not the case.

My definition of a supporter, if you have an issue, stand up at the AGM or speak to the person face to face, not hide behind a nickname.

I spoke to Goody just before his speech he was definitely not slurring, but if it persists on here, one of the so-called media will pick it up and......of course give the whiners something else to whine about.

I know drunk people, I see them getting up and down constantly at the game,  off for a [censored] or another beer whilst checking their multi....true supporters.

I think the AFL’s way of shafting us from a fixture perspective will actually please our fans.

Plenty of Sunday 1:10 and Saturday 1:45 games next year will actually suit our supporter profile more than your night games that we essentially had for almost the entire second half of the season.

Won’t help finances at all. We need prime time and marquee games still to keep financial credibility.

Did I hear right. Did McCrae say at the fllth b&f that he is glad his supporters don't boo. Is he deaf?

The filth supporters are disgusting. They boo all the time ... and yell "ball" every few seconds.

Wrong, I ask them to back up their opinion, which they are entitled to, but most don't as they find it easier to incessantly whine, demanding others follow their opinion, because that is the only one that is right.

If other posters disagree they are told they are delusional, looking through rose coloured glasses etc.

Forums are for discussion, except for Demonland of course, home of the disgruntled supporter who craves agreement to their opinion

Opinion which is usually based on what some highly paid click baiter has written, and we must agree mustn't we, don't want to be seen as a nuffy.

In this thread alone you've told supporters to go support another team and told fans how to support and judging people who don't support the way you think is the right way

Maybe just let people have their own approach to following the Demons and you have yours

I understand the constant negativity is draining so I'm with you on that

You mean the 2 line whiner, the whole time I have been on this board, that particular poster has never had anything positive to say about the club, hence my comment.

True, you can support in many ways, but it is all mouth and trousers on here, to use an English vernacular, never hear the  voices at the AGM or face to face when they have the opportunity.

If posters backed up some of their more expansive views, I wouldn't mind, but when you ask them to, the silence is deafening.

Knowing Collingwood fans' collective mentality, I suspect some will "boo" Crips next year because he stole Daicos' Downlow Medal.

Last 9 years. The four musketeers have dominated our B&F.

Clarry x4

Gawn x 2

Petracca x 2

Viney x 2

(Gawn and Oliver tied in 2019)

they are surely all going to be listed amongst our very best players ever

hope we can resolve the issues with Clarry and Trac over the next 12 months

I know of a premiership coach (within the last decade) who shared privately (not to me, admittedly) that he was astonished Goody had kept his job, something along the lines of ‘he’s just too close to his players’… whilst he didn’t elaborate, the feeling was he was saying ‘fun guy’ who doesn’t know the line between coach/boss and friend.

Separately, I have heard from a player (directly) that goody is only the ‘much-loved coach’ to select players. If you’re a fringe player, you’re probably not one of goody’s ‘favs’ and you also then end up on the outer socially with him.

I respect what you’re saying, but there’s some critical issues with the above:

- the opinion of a premiership coach from the outside was that he was astonished. I’d say he hasn’t elaborated because it’s an opinion formed at long distance without a lot of internal insight. Doesn’t mean it’s not accurate, but it is less likely to be.

- I think the “fringe player’s lament” is a fairly common sentiment and present at all clubs to differing degrees. Dare I bring it up again, but I recall being at the home of a number of Geelong players watching their teammates play in a final & openly barracking for them to lose & get knocked out.

Don’t disagree with either comment.

What I wrote is by no means statistically significant, but interesting nonetheless in the context of @goodwindees comment about the scope of the internal review.

Fair enough. It seems a strange thing to criticise a coach for - being close to his players. Particularly when that approach worked to the point where we won a flag.

Can’t help but feel Goodwin is in the gun and Lamb is in the gun; both appear to be carrying the stress of those under heavy scrutiny. But somehow our CEO escapes the microscope? When he’s chiefly to blame in my view, and continues to demonstrate such. I’m dumbfounded.

it would be professionally irresponsible not to dig a bit deeper in light of some of the stuff that has reportedly gone down.

His time will come. President and CEO going at once creates a huge hole in leadership capability and experience. Sponsors wouldn’t want that, the board wouldn’t want that, the AFL wouldn’t want that. Like him or hate him, he is important to us right now.

We finished 10th and he has a growing list of ‘misses’.  Not unreasonable for him to be under pressure.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
