Before the age article I was sure he was gone. Since reading it I’m more confident at this point he stays.

He was honest In saying yes he gets homesick a lot but the club allows him to go home when he needs and trusts him to get his training done which he really appreciates. He knows he will get homesick for the rest of his career(if he does stay) as he has through out his career so far. Just about managing it.

Had Melbourne not been so good with allowing him to go home when he needs and staying for longer when the club is playing over there he would 100% have been out the door when the first contract was up I have no doubt.

Did anyone listen to the DeeBrief podcast with Robbo's Rundown the other day?

Robbo said we're doing absolutely everything we can to keep him and the podcast's host "Naughtsie" was told second hand from a Melbourne best 23 player that it's clear and obvious that the club is going absolutely above and beyond for Kozzie.

Robbo has us at a 60/40 chance of keeping him. But my question is: was he talking about 60/40 keeping him next year, or 60/40 extending him when his contract expires. That part wasn't clear.

Robbo also revealed that he personally received offers from other clubs that were so far in excess of what we offered him back in the day. He brought those offers to the attention of the club, the club refused to budge and yet he remained loyal to the MFC. The MFC treated him like family since he moved over from Tassie and he therefore couldn't leave them.

I'd post a youtube link of the episode, but I feel as though the podcast producer is a competitor of Demonland so I decided not to.

i heard it as 60/40 to stay beyond his current contract with robbo saying that was only cos he's been so burned by wa-based players leaving in the past; wizard, dogga, etc.

for mine, the other key takeout of the deebrief chat was that the suspensions that jvr has copped in his first few years may have had an effect on his current performance in 2025 - it's made him more tentative in his attack on the contest

A little bit aside from the issue of retaining Kozzie (which seems to have such a homesickness factor to it), I find this such an interesting part of top-level sport.

I remember during the Tom Scully disaster that many, many people argued Scully had essentially no decision to make: it wasn't rational or realistic to suggest he might ignore that amount of money stay at Melbourne. This always struck me as just as naive as saying "Every player plays only for the jumper and money is irrelevant" (which is mostly just a strawman version of a more nuanced side of the argument).

Of course, Robbo might have been making it up or exaggerating or giving prominence to just one reason why he stayed above others, but even still, it's telling that he would say that.

Great to see koz doing more stuff like the sit down video with May, flash and Whelan the other day. Feel like the more he gets involved in extra things round the club the more likely he is to stay.

Flash pointed out that he’s the only indigenous player to have won a b and f at Dee’s and it would be great to see more, think koz could definitely go down as our greatest indigenous player if he decides to stick round.

The Deebrief discussion with Robbo was really good. I agree with him, that the Club can’t do more for Kozzie than they are doing now

60/40 is ok with me at this stage.

Keep winning games and keep him involved in the Club on top of training, those odds may improve

If his form continues, he may win the B&F (I’m fairly sure Max wouldn’t mind)

He was still trying to get to Fremantle on the last day of trade period last year, according to Cal Twomey, I'll take his word over what a player's partner may say to fans at training

My son Bryce just unofficially finished playing a game or two with Flash up here in C, and B said he enjoyed the time immensely.

It reeks of desperation, all these attempts by the club to keep him here. That interview was 3 old guys saying to Koz "see? Isn't it great here? You sure would be silly if you left!" I fear if we hold on too tight we might just end up driving him away

Yep the deebrief guys are always complimentary about demonland, don’t think anyone does or should see it as a “rivalry”.

Tell me you have no idea without telling me you have no idea.

If players leave we cry about the club’s failure to retain them. If they stay it’s because we reek of desperation.

Going out of our way to make Kosi feel connected to his people and culture is a very important thing, not just for his own wellbeing and feeling of connection to the club, but a great way to lessen his homesickness.

We should be so proud of the amazing pioneering work our club has done in this area of indigenous relations.

I swear some people are never happy!
