Say what you want, we got a Premiership which no other administration has ever managed. A full book of sponsors, premiership, we have probably had the most stable administration for decades.

We didn’t have a shorts sponsor for half the year and Hertz probably got a cheap rate for the second half of the year.

That's wierd - I would have thought sponsors would sign up for at least a season - did a shorts sponsor pull out or something?  Why would Hertz have gotten a discount in the 2nd half of the year - some kind of trigger clause relating to membership numbers reached or crowd numbers or something?

100 percent all of the above. And you are right @BoBo, the above is brief. But does attempt to deal with the phenomena at a high level. To support the above observations, research confirms that:

  • about 1 percent of the general population are psychopathic
  • this figure rises to 3.9 percent in the workplace population
  • most of the psychopaths in the workplace are in senior management positions.

The AFL employs around 2000 people. That means about three (3) in every club on average (allowing a percentage at head office as well). If we were to include the media, the figures would zoom up exponentially I would have thought.

Interesting!

There’s also another phenomenon which occurs to some people who have ‘mastered’ their skill: they tend to undervalue their own competence. They can pass up jobs, not go for promotions, because they see themselves a deficient even though they would be perfectly capable of doing a job.

Thus, less skilled, but more overly confident people rise up.

With a name like that @Loose Men Everywhere, they would totally belong in the read and blue and would be a top 10 pick.

Maybe…was thinking more Hawthorn, in the Rochford Devenish-Meares tradition.

Call me a cynic but Caro's piece on Monday was a massive tonal shift from the line the club has gone with over the past 12 months.

That info felt like it came straight from the board and probably Roffey herself.

One week ago there was no chance of an independent review, our issues were just isolated incidents, best culture in 40 years etc. By Monday the club was strongly considering a review and Roffey was planning her exit. Only after the conclusion of the mess of the last few weeks did we learn of the Steve Smith approach and the possibility that he may be the club's next president. It's all a bit convenient.

That being said at the end of the day I'm not really fussed if the right outcome is reached.

I also think the board has to be talking to her - she was breaking down how many hours the board spent talking about various topics. How would anyone else know that?

I am not kicking the Club at all

That is being done from inside. I want a full external review so that problems i have known about for over 12 months can be flushed out

Been an MCC Member since ‘92 and an MFC Member since 2000.

Any more Questions??

So what problems are they that you know about?

Looks like good forward planning by someone with the best interests of the club at heart.

Fairly disappointing the attitude some supporters (not aimed at WW by the way) take towards a premiership club president, mostly because of a single poor interview.

I take it you haven't been on Demonland very long, this is kicking central, tempered by the more balanced posters.

Agree. Honestly: we are the most successful club in the competition over the last 4-5 years (and yes, of course I know that this year has been a very poor one); we have record membership; we are financially viable; the players continually sign on for stable deals to remain at the club -  i think the administration is doing something right.

One thing I know for certain from decades of following AFL: when you have administration fights, a club's performance deteriorates immediately and disastrously.

When I read what some have said about Gary Pert here, you would think he started life in 2023! In the interests of providing a full picture of his VFL/AFL life, I have listed some key moments.

Gary Pert

VFL schoolboys tour of Ireland 1981

Made his senior debut in 1982 as a 16 year old

163 games for Fitzroy

State of Origin team in 1984 as an 18 year old

VC for Fitzroy in 1988

70 games for Collingwood

Played for Victoria 6 times

AA team 1985

Fitzroy Best & Fairest 1989

Fitzroy Team of the Century

CEO of Collingwood 2007 – 2017

CEO of Melbourne 2018 -

That makes him CEO of two Premiership teams!

I make that 43 years of decorated service so far!

It's not just because of a single poor interview though.

There are problems at the club she has presided over.

Facilities are her specialist area and after 10 years there's still no home base.

If she has been proactive in seeking out steven Smith then that's to her credit.  And she has been very supportive of the AFLW team. She was part of an administration that delivered a flag.

But the last few years have not been good. Time for change.

Staff culture comes back to the CEO. It's time to move him on.

I'm attempting to bring some balance to the character assassination that has seeped into this thread!

Pert is the bloke who went on SEN boasting about himself overseeing the best culture he's seen in 40 years at the same time as we were having a string of major off field dramas that proved the culture is anything but. He and Goody to some extent as well both lost me the moment they did that.

I'm sure he's been a wonderful servant of football for a long time, but you can't go to the media and make outrageous claims, completely fail to back them up and then be commissioned to review the same football department that's fallen into chaos under your watch.

This is the board's MO though. They tap people on the shoulder when board terms are expiring and install new faces just prior to elections and then the president comes out and tells the members who to vote for.

Was clearly responsible for Fitzroy's banishment. Sack him now before the MFC goes out of business.
