POSTGAME: Rd 23 vs Gold Coast

Featured Replies

So the gloom and doom has lifted we played so well and won. Will give Maynard and his dog headed mates a belting next week.God i wish i could be there, just think a couple of the close losses were wins we would be nicely in the 8 with a beat up team makes the season understandable

Oliver, Trac, May out and Kossie quiet. Pre game would have said 5-10 goal loss, great effort from the Demons who stood up!

Jack Viney take a BOW!

Turner, JVR and Petty make a statement for 2025 forward line!

It was a a grand day!

Beat those filthy scum next week, hopefully with someone flattening Maynard and would be the perfect end to the season!

Go Demons!

Replayed the Viney interview, probably overanalysing like everyone else, but I have a slightly different take.

It was reported by Riley Beveridge this week that Jack is in the midst of negotiating a deal for beyond 2025. Generally when those things are in the works players can be a bit more non-committal as they want to keep the managers happy as they push for the best deal. Jack is not always the sharpest of speakers or interviewees, and I felt he answered with his initial automatic thoughts (paraphrasing):

Lynch: "You're not going anywhere next year?"

Viney: "Nah!" Then realizes he's meant to keep them guessing somewhat to help the contract talks "We'll wait til the end of the year and see how that all pans out".

I'm not too worried after that exchange.

Yeah, that was one of my takes too.

Take that squirmy Dermy.  The hope that they could still get up when they were 6 goals down deep in the fourth… priceless

The whole commentary was (as always) spoilt by Dermy! I wish he’d just shut up.                                   I’m not sure if I read it on this site or elsewhere, but someone said -  ask Dermy the time and he’ll tell you how to build a clock!

How good was that! Very proud of the boys today. Vines and Max immense and lots of nice cameos too. We wiped the floor with them it has to be said.

I heard WCW is so burnt she is in a cardboard packed with ice sitting on the tarmac at the airport waiting for ride home

I've lamented our work in the centre square for a very long time. That was an enormous improvement against two of the better clearance players (at least stats-wise) in the comp.

Dermie hates Melbourne so great to stick it up him!

Stolen from a post on Twitter, but this a great pick up.

“Trac spent months in Queensland then conveniently avoided this away trip when so many of the injured players travelled, and our twos were up here too. Today was a very ‘whole club’ vibe. None of this is reflecting very well on him. This is a direction, and he’s not in on it.”

I agree completely with this. The more this plays out the more I'm unimpressed with Trac and whoever leaked to the media.

A lot to like today!, also Billings, Hore, Kolt AND Nibbler were very good

Nibbler is going to be a big loss ... especially after losing Brayshaw. Heart and soul players and onfield leaders both.

Even if both Clarry and Trac get back to their best, some big shoes to fill.

So we are twice as good as the Bombers as we beat Essendon and Gold Coast beat them too 😂

Hard to read anything into that Viney comment.

Not overly concerned. Currently in contract negotiations with the Demons so I can't imagine he'd say anything publicly which may impact talks.

Spot on. He will have been briefed by his manager. Don't look too keen.

I suspect medical advice would be that he still should not fly

Hmmm. Didn’t seem to apply when he flew up to Noosa did it.

To be fair, he might have thought that if he went he would be a distraction

Great pick up.  Poor Jack - just a bit of confusion there.

Confident in saying the feeling is mutual - he is a complete toss bag

or he might have medical appointments.  Too much reading of tea leaves on here.

A distraction he himself created.

True on Nibbler, but why can't Rivers, Turner, Tholstrup, Windsor etc.   be the next to take over that mantle.

A bit of kudos here to Dwayne.  Last 1/4 he emphasised several times that next season with Oliver and Trac back in  full health  and JVR having his break out seasonwhy can't the Dees challenge again quickly.

The way the team got around Judd after his first goal was indicative of the great things about our team.

Even more impressive was when they got around Pickett who was obviously feeling out of sorts and slightly embarrassed about his performance in the first three quarters.
