Tom Barrass:

  • a born and bred WA player
  • 3 years to run on his contract
  • a premiership player
  • the club's Vice Captain

has requested a trade across the country to Victoria.  Tom Barrass will be traded to Hawthorn.  No known trauma, no homesickness.  He just pulls up stumps and there is barely a sound.

I would have thought his trade is just as big news and just as big a 'betrayal' of club and fans as the potential Petracca trade...

I'll let posters reflect on how that has been managed compared to our apparent club and players trashing each other.

And please spare me the finger pointing that goes only one way.

There is definitely a pile on MFC memo in the media. In this I’m sure. The why is what intrigues me.

The CFC CEO is about to step aside. Fev dropped this about a week and half ago and there were some interesting reasons behind this. It barely registered a bleep in the news cycle. The premiers failed to make the finals, again no questions asked.

Blues willing to trade Curnow for Trac

Carlton official speaking on the condition of anonymity said "we'd be willing to do that deal. Ed's been out of the system for a while but has been keeping fit, so yeah we'd do it"

How do we know that he has told the club that he wants to be traded? Please provide concrete evidence.

Are we seriously back to this point?

Grabbed a cuppa, jumped online - only 6 pages of Trac to get through!

Not bad, not bad at all.

Easy peasy. Then I'll get to work 🤣

I get your point but there are a lot of differences.  For starters:

  • West Coast has not gone through a turbulent season in the media like Melbourne has - ie it doesn't fit into a larger narrative about West Coast other than they are rebuilding and he doesn't think he'll get a shot at a premiership by the time they are contending again.

All fair points.  I would expect some fallout over a Vice Captain leaving his home state and club while contracted.

imv it is the last point that is causing the angst in our world ie the last straw after a very disappointing year both on and off the field.  And it highlights the lack of club leadership in managing the 'turbulence' over the past year.

I thought that yesterday, but the pages multiply quicker than you can read them, and I'm still here eight hours later pushing through on a @WalkingCivilWar diet of multiple Red Bulls despite my proposed sponsorship boycott.

Nobody comes out of this looking good. Shambles all round.

Barass doesn't have anything like the profile of Trac. and he's Perth based.

Trac is torching us. He has brought all the media focus. He set this whole chain of events in motion. I'm sure he has valid grievances but talk of brand and bigger clubs is a slap in the face to us supporters. I was a big fan of his before but he'll be no favourite of mine when this all settles down and he has to re-integrate back into the team. there'll be no cheer from me when his name is announced on Rd1 next year.

I'm not happy with players leaking no matter what the reason is. Thats not leadership at all.

I've lost faith in the board. We need a proper external review of the whole club.

I'm very disappointed all round

Well done for giving a balanced view.

If it's Trac's secret mission to destroy the club and everything we've done over the past 10 years, he is doing an excellent job

There is zero chance anyone will want to be traded to us this off-season. So good luck to the club improving our list.

Either stay or [censored] off

So Trac has decided he wants out and started a fire.

other players are talking to the media about it because they’re [censored] off.

and that leads you to lose faith in the board?

Short of kidnapping the full list and holding them hostage in the rooms at Casey how is the board supposed to stop whispering and leaking?

People have very strange ideas about what a board is and does, and an inflated idea of the value of an external review.

haha good point (I did notice a similar spike this week) so I guess I'll fire up some more coffee.

So will this event go ahead on Sunday.

Dougal Austin claims it will.

He will be there. Won’t be cancelled! Had coffee with him this morning
Very different to talking to Ch7, etc
He will tell the fans at Ringwood RSL that he’s committed to the club!

BUT WHICH CLUB IS HE COMMITTED TO

wasted millions on legal cases, no home base, poor comms, Pert spaffling on about culture and making himself look like a fool, brand trashed under their watch the list goes on.

Do you reckon this board deserves a clap on the back. everything is hunky dory. what are they doing right at the moment?

For a club that never leaked, we are leaking like a sieve, info flying left, right and center.

This is entering into RAT territory.

You can't be serious, just keep putting your head in the sand. If there was no leaking there is no story. We've had a running commentary for the last 2 weeks from certain sections of the media. I can understand loyalty to Christian as he has been at the club for a long time and has been a valued player, but don't be naive.

Trac was warned very early on that a deal can't be done and by doing this he will do this and yet he's gone ahead anyway.

Very disappointing indeed.

Wasted millions on legal cases - we got sued? Can’t just say no thanks we’d prefer not to.

No home base - yeh since the 70s. It’s disappointing but not new.

Poor comms, your opinion. My view is you don’t need to feed the machine unless you have anything to say.

Pert - (and Roffey, and Max for that matter) I haven’t liked the culture talk either. I think there was too much talk after 2021 about how good the culture was and we haven’t backed that up. Would’ve preferred to let results do the talking.

The board appoints the management who run the club. Our issues are management/football issues and bad luck, and a player who’s gone a bit rogue. Steady the ship and reset rather than burn it all down because we’re all upset is my view.

I’d love him at the club in some capacity. Talks more sense than anybody else in the media.

Add on- I’d love to bring him in now to do a critically analyses of our list as a starting point.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

In advance of Season 10, the AFL leadership has engaged in candid discussions with all clubs regarding strategies to boost attendance and expand fan bases. Concerningly, average attendances in 2024 were 2,660 fans per match, with the women’s game incurring an annual loss of approximately $50 million.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
