Shout out to Andy. He does a great job.

He shouldn't have to spend so much time explaining himself.

Keep up the good work Andy ... and hopefully fellow 'landers take on board his concerns/rules.

True.  off topic, but what riles me is that Demonland has to live in fear of some anonymous poster libelling someone, yet Twitter etc don't have to worry.

Elon Musk can afford the lawsuits. Andy can’t.

I mean that’s all well and good, but for what and who pays his increasingly outrageous salary?

What a full blown shemozzle.

The thing that gets me about this is I literally cannot see how Trac believes he has any leverage or other club interest at all. As many others have said here, when you combine the massive salary, the likely repercussions physically from the injury, the mental toll he’s discussed, the age, the toxic diva behaviour, and the assets required to get him, burning bridges—no matter how troubled the club is—seems shockingly ill advised.

I just wonder whether he had discussions and had some interest shown by his allegedly preferred destination club before he undertook this bizarre pathway.

Sam McClure is reporting Christian Petracca “took aim” at Melbourne’s culture during a three hour meeting on Saturday.

Petracca has become the hottest talking point ahead of this year’s trade period, with all parties refusing to speak publicly as details of his strained relationship with Melbourne continue to emerge.

“He vented his disappointed that key people at the club didn’t support him enough the two-week period that followed his life-threatening football injury,” he said on 3AW.

Who we talking about. Surely not Kyrgios. He doesn't even play and he's the fourth biggest tennis player on social media.  He's left the small world of Australian media and fans way behind.  This is what it's about.

I was about to respond with a joke about are we allowed to name people anymore, but i dont know how id cope not having DL to help through this Tracic set of circumstances.

OK, laying down the groundwork for a grievance challenge maybe?

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/petracca-airs-grievances-in-private-meeting-of-dees-leaders-20240828-p5k60z.html

Just an excerpt.

"According to a source with knowledge of the meeting, who would not be identified because it was a private gathering, the meeting ended about 3pm with hugs, handshakes and high-fives, but left those in attendance with little confidence that Petracca will be a Melbourne player in 2025.

Gawn, vice captain Jack Viney, Tom Sparrow and Petracca were at the restaurant. Star defender Jake Lever would have been in attendance but was ill (he missed the round 24 loss to Collingwood the night before due to gastro).

Petracca’s concerns included his belief that Melbourne people did not check in with him enough in the aftermath of his King’s Birthday injury, the pending departure of teammate Alex Neal-Bullen, and previous culture issues.

Three teammates, who have spoken to this masthead on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the topic, remain concerned that while Petracca’s grievances have now been aired several times to the players, they are not sure how the problems can be fixed.

The pending departure of another premiership player, Alex Neal-Bullen, was another talking point, with Petracca suggesting this could have been avoided if the environment was better at the Dees."

Lost me when he said his most serious injury was a dog bite. Umm. Serious ACL injury at the start of his career ring a bell? How many superstars have dealt with that?Just a typical Demon bashing article low on facts and choc full of personal conclusions. Guessing he's a Collingwood supporter.

Another take on this whole debacle:

Was his ego hurt when he didnt get all the love and devotion from the playing group, media etc in the immediate period after his injury? I remember not hearing anything from Trac for quite some time.

Has this then translated into a hissy fit following the realisation that he isn't the centre of attention at the club and everything that has followed is essentially a pre-adolescent outburst of emotion. This is likely further fueled through jealousy on how the club has rallied around Oliver.

Sounding like brand $ influencing traccs decisions.

The AFL ticked off our doctors processes.

Culture. What is culture. Define it.

One player suffering ADHD is hard for that player but the fact that player is now on a good space shows how hard the club worked to assist that player. Should boost the list.

Big tick.

I hope we trade him and get a fair deal.

But we have to play the hard ball game in the meantime.

I’m surprised we haven’t heard a dicky bird from Kate Roffey.

There should be an AFL investigation as to why Trac was sent back on field with life threatening injuries!

A paramedic with no more than a stethoscope wouldn’t have allowed him on field. I can’t blame Trac or his family to be p*shed off with club.

If we don’t have full club independent review we will just go down to bottom of the ladder.

i have watched the Club for too long not to have my say.

Definitely.

Trac’s apparent actions have made me become pretty disenfranchised with him.

If it is indeed his ‘brand’ that he’s most concerned with, he has done a pretty good job damaging it himself afaic.

Three teammates, who have spoken to this masthead on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the topic, remain concerned that while Petracca’s grievances have now been aired several times to the players, they are not sure how the problems can be fixed.

The pending departure of another premiership player, Neal-Bullen, was another talking point, with Petracca suggesting this could have been avoided if the environment was better at the Dees.

However, Neal-Bullen has told the club he would like to return home to South Australia for family reasons.

Saturday’s was one of several meetings that Petracca has had with teammates and leaders, but they have done little to sway his view that he wants to play for a rival Melbourne powerhouse club in 2025.

The 28-year-old reiterated his position in his exit review meeting on Monday, although he has not formally requested a trade.

He has told coach Simon Goodwin and other senior figures that he is frustrated with continuously playing in front of small crowds.

In two of Melbourne’s last three home games, the crowds have been 16,246 (against Greater Western Sydney) and 17,867 (against Port Adelaide).

He has also told them that representing a larger club could increase his brand and marketability. Petracca’s representatives have denied that personal brand issues are having any impact on his decision-making.

Collingwood ruckman Mason Cox, who suffered a similar – albeit nowhere near as serious – spleen injury in the previous season, reached out to offer the name of the specialist he saw during his rehabilitation.

Moore, who is a friend of Petracca’s, also checked in on him.

However, there are frustrations with Petracca, too.

Several players were disappointed at the level of Petracca’s social media activity while on holiday in Noosa, when the Demons were fighting to stay in finals contention.

Carlton remain an interested party in the evolving Petracca situation.

Any potential trade involving a contracted Blues player will be put on hold as the team prepares for an elimination final against the Brisbane Lions next Saturday, according to two club sources not prepared to publicly discuss the issue.

But the club has internally raised the significance of Petracca’s availability and is willing to act aggressively to pursue a deal.

Petracca and his management declined to comment.

This is an out and out fabrication, or Trac has absolutely no idea why Nibbler is leaving.
What’s next? Gus wouldn’t have been medically retired if our culture was better?

You bet they did.

Why does our playing group leak like a sieve? It's a very poor look for all concerned that details of private meetings make there way into the press like this.

By “check in” does he really mean become followers and/or comment several times a day on his numerous social media platforms. He has a point …/sarc

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
