We beat the Lions and probably should have beaten the Pies.

Not every Collingwood player is an elite kick or a gun player, we have our fair share of talent but we lack a relevant gameplan and purpose.

Goodwin must be removed before players start ringing their agents asking them to start fielding offers.

We can play finals next year but we need change now.

He hasn't responded since we lost against Carlton in 2023.

In fairness, we could have last year too, just too late.

We have so many issues;

picking up cheap grub players, instead of picking up legends, this owing to our culture issues.

Gameplay isn’t changing

Lack of execution

Lack of hunger

Coach that doesn’t get the best out of the group he has

Could go on and on, but really it sits with Goody and the rest of the coaching staff.

A forward coach would be good as well, someone to teach our players how to position themselves, how to create space, how to lead, how to work for each other etc etc

Our forward line has been a complete joke for years, Goodwin is lucky he has got away with this garbage for so long without much heat from the media and supporters. A flag does wonders but this show is over.

I’m not sure that we can teach them anything if we keep going the way that we are, as they’ve developed so many bad habits, and are not going into games with any serious intent!!

To me, from the reports I read (which are excellent, by the way), it appears that training is too much fun and not enough earnestness. I’d like to see training sessions broken up into the different skills, but with real game simulation, where pressure is emphasised. [censored] off the soccer balls, as these things need to be approached seriously, otherwise we learn nothing and nothing changes!

I obviously don’t attend training, so I might be making unfair/unjustified assumptions (correct me if I’m wrong), but I just can’t believe that what we are seeing is the product of a well organised teaching/learning system.

We simply can’t blame players for their poor onfield performances without first looking at training, because that’s where it all starts!

Re your second paragraph: I reckon the likes of Craig McRae would be shaking his head when watching us train.

At this point of the season you would normally say I’m going to go to games / watch games to see the kids coming through, hold on, Goody’s dropped them to teach them lessons….

The riskier decision is to retain Goodwin IMO.

Membership numbers have absolutely gone down the toilet since the end of 2023 (70,000 down to 55,000) our win/loss record is going to the dogs by the week and the overall respect garnered within the AFL community and our own supporter base is rock bottom.

I would keen to hear a counter argument as to why Goodwin should be retained for next year. If the answer is he’s a premiership coach, then look at Hawthorn/Clarkson/Kennett/Michell as an example as to why hard calls are needed.

Great post. With a few more forward systems in place I think we could have been more successful. Gawn's dominance in the ruck hasn't been reflected in our performances either.

I don't mean to be unfair to the training reports either, but I read that they had Chandler practicing to kick it to the top of the square. I wasn't there, I don't know the context. But that we have been so predictable going into the forward 50 for so long and we could be still practicing this beggars belief!

That horse has bolted, Clarry and Trac are stuck against their will and both are playing like it.

I think a lot of this is perfect storm stuff but Goodwin sucked the life out of the group with the most mentally and physically taxing gameplan possible, I can see the change coming now but the desire to follow through 100% of the time is just not there.

There is no righting this ship without significant change throughout the whole club. I certainly don’t think it’s all on Goody but his message has gone stale so it won’t matter what he tries to tell the

Im sorry I don’t buy the most taxing game plan stuff. We are 18th for pressure. 18th. We have one of the best injury lists.

let that sink in. The whole year it has been a lack of effort and pressure. That is on the players. Now Goody does t get off scot free, but he is not solely responsible.

Choco - poor goal kicking , field kicking and player development . Has to go.

Richo - does anybody know what he does? Aside from the Trac blunder which is likely the cause of all this disharmony and lack of cohesion onfield. Has to go.

Basset - what has he done?

Jonesy - our midfield is unidentifiable- pathetic stoppage setup amd patterns. Has to go.

Goody - overseeing all this mess, has to go.

Reality is we won’t have the. Ash to make this possible. The cap increases may help us get rid of Goody earlier that planned, but the assistants unfortunately we are stuck with until their contracts run out. Hopefully they are more year -year stuff.

Ultimately, I reckon we are years away before competing again.

I think I was trying to make the point that it looked like we were drilling it into our players to be as predictable as possible, so as to continue our crusade of helping out the opposition defence.

I wasn't trying to highlight a players performance per se, just highlighting what we are coaching into our players.
