My guess would be he survives this week and next, then if we lose to the tiges and weagles he’s gone. Season is toast anyway, but they won’t go this early. No point unless we’ve got a replacement in mind..

Do you think Goody can turn this around? i can't see it myself.

i think the level of performance is not trending in the right direction. At all. There are no positive signs. the youngsters are showing the strain now as well. JVR confidence on the floor, windsor very flat. we're going to stuff their development.

I've seen the death rattle of a few man Utd coaches (there's been quite a few recently). There's a 100 point belting in our not too distant future. Probably Freo next week.

Maybe an interim coach won't be able to stem the bleeding. But its clear that Goody can't. The point of no return has been reached. This game plan will never eventuate. There is no point to him now. He is legacy is being damaged the longer this goes on.

We are in a big mess.

Possibly sack Green for starters for squabbling something that obviously needs doing.

Lol if you think Clarkson and Cameron weren't tapped on the shoulder then I have a bridge to sell you.

Buckley wasn't sacked.

"NATHAN Buckley has stepped down as Collingwood coach, saying it is time for change and it is the right decision."

Another coach who absolutely would have kept coaching his side had he been allowed to.

Come on man.

I think it is time - but who are we left with?

Chaplin? He's in charge of the fwd line....

Jones? Too new

Bassett? Maybe but has a bit of a topsy turvy record with people.

Richo and choco won't do it...the fact they are presiding over this mess says enough.

It's going to get worse...much worse, before it gets better.

Roos understood he had to make a list and cultural change. That now needs to happen again. We will lose many fan favourites.

Goodwin our 'premiership coach's on paper only. Roos, Jackson, Viney, Mahoney the real legacy and the ones who actually turned the place around.

Goodwin’s press conference had a different feel. Angry and under pressure. Admitting the players didn’t show enough fight.

It sounded terminal.

Let's put him out of his ( I mean our ) misery.

The humane thing , surely

With the talent on this list these outcomes are a disgrace.

Goodwin has no idea, every time you see the camera go to him, he is just sitting there, the few times in the first qtr it panned to Scott he was talking with his assistants. Goodwin had his head over a laptop angled to the corner.

He has no idea how to get us out of this mess.

Walk away a legend Simon, no shame in saying you’ve taken this list as far as you can. You’ve won a premiership as a coach and two as a player, something most can only dream off. The money’s in the bank and you’re set for life.

Thanks for the memories.

Who cares? I don't get the concern about a caretaker coach at all. They're just there to hold the fort for a few months.

You don't seem to get it. Sacking a struggling coach during the season might not have an immediate impact but it can be very beneficial in the long run. Compare the Melbourne at the end of Neeld's run to the Melbourne at the end of Roos' run. Not in the same [censored] ballpark. And Brisbane were already in contention two years after they sacked Leppitsch.

Letting Goodwin stay till the end of the year will be unbelievably dumb if these are the performances we keep on getting. The players look completely drained by his 'system.'

Right, then tap Goody on the shoulder and advise him that for the benefit of the club moving forward having already lost the players it seems, it would be best if he stood down. Mutual decision, happy days.

  • Buckly stands down mid 2021. They appoint Craig McRea at the end of 2021 and they not only make a preliminary final in 2022 in his first year as coach, but they then proceed in wining the flag in just his second year at the helm in 2023.

  • Leon Cameron stands down mid 2022 and new coach Adam Kingsley comes at the end of that year and immediately takes them to a preliminary final in 2023. Top 4 finish in 2024 and look destined for another top 4 finish this year.

  • Early days already but Damien Hardwick already has them sitting 2nd on the AFL ladder in just his second year at the helm after they sack Dew in 2023. Finally look destined for a finals birth.

  • Chris Fagan in his 2nd year at the helm got them into top 4 and since then, have not missed out on playing finals. Sustained success.

  • Luke Beveridge in his first year in 2015 got them straight into the finals after taking over a club that was in a diabolical state after they sacked their coach and traded their captain in Ryan Griffen at the end of 2014. Beveridge then wins a flag in 2016.

Yes, it's not guaranteed that it would work for us, but there is enough evidence to suggest clubs that still have a decent list as we do, only need a fresh new voice and a completely new system in place and you can certainly bounce back.

Our list on paper still has enough talent on there to bounce back up immediately if the club is willing to make changes.

Goodwin is cooked and you'd be delusional to think if the players haven't lost faith in him because as it stands, player and coaches look polar opposite to each in terms of being aligned on the same page.

Good examples

I’m wondering what candidates of that calibre are out there and available?

And not just available but who would want to come to us?

Genuine question

i'm mourning the loss of Adem Yze. he should be our coach right now

Reckon Cameron Bruce would be a good option. Was brought in by Brisbane to coach their midfield and especially fix up their running patterns back in 2022.

Goodwin's issue seems to be the complacency in the years following. Stubborness with the gameplan, misfires in recruiting and drafting, and letting poor behaviours creep into the culture.

I think that rather than stubbornness with the game plan, it’s his inability to come up with a new and effective game plan, and, it would seem, a backup plan; he is incredibly slow to react to what is happening on the ground. With no backup plan, when things are getting away from them, the players just seem completely lost.

I think after yesterday’s effort, his cards are probably marked, and the search for a replacement is probably underway, behind closed doors.

no one cares about losing fan favourites, we want to win.

Clarry- love him but if hes a culture killer then go

Trac- if the players resent him because hes too much about himself, and causing rifts because he wants it his way, then go

viney- yes your a legends son but you are the biggest momentum killer out there, time to retire or go

goodwin- you won us a premiership, thankyou, but your voice is no longer being heard.

selwyn- mate you are no good, we have gone completely backwards since you took over

choco- you are part of the goodwin clan, time to move on

we need a fresh coach with fresh ideas, and his own fleet of assistants. do a proper clean out.

Kingsley was an asisstant coach

Craig McRae was an assistant coach

Chris Fagan had done zilch as an assistant and stand in coach

Its not necessarily the "calibre" of the person leading the helm, its the style in which they teach.

Any assistant coach waiting in the wings would want a Senior Coach position. We just need to find the right one

So are you saying that Goody should stand down like Buckley did in 21.

He wont stand down coz as he said "Its not about him" well clearly it is because he is delusionally backing in his new game style which has resulted in ZERO wins this season on the back of a disastrous last half dozen games and 14th spot last year.JUST SIMPLY MUST GO NOW!

I didn’t mean they had to be existing senior coaches

Could be assistant

My reference to calibre includes style

Sad. Disappointed. Depressed. What game plan ? No forward strategy. No skills. Defence is to zone and guard grass. Fumbles and fumbles. Dumb decisions. Play wide and slow. Missed tackles. Sad. Disappointed. Depressed. 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔

We need a change now !!! It’s not a boys club. It’s time for change.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.

  • CASEY: Northern Bullants

The Casey Demons travelled to a windy Cramer Street, Preston yesterday and blew the Northern Bullants off the ground for three quarters before shutting up shop in the final term, coasting to a much-needed 71-point victory after leading by almost 15 goals at one stage. It was a pleasing performance that revived the Demons’ prospects for the 2025 season but, at the same time, very little can be taken from the game because of the weak opposition. These days, the Bullants are little more than road kill. The once proud club, situated behind the Preston Market in a now culturally diverse area, is currently facing significant financial and on-field challenges, having failed to secure a win to date in 2025.
