I wouldn’t be shocked if Hunter comes back into the side to play his 200th against the Dogs. Direct replacement for Billings who once again did next to nothing.

We owe nothing to Hunter, and he won’t be with us next year, but I think it’s fair that we get him to 200 before he retires.

I will be shocked and [censored] off if Hunter gets another game barring not having enough players to field a team. Howes, Brown, Taj and Kolt should all be playing in front of him.

Ugh I’m having ‘nam flashbacks to 2022 when so many haters on here were p’d off that we were ‘nursing’ Melk to his 200th. Not comparing the two players and I know there’s no room for sentimentality in footy, but what’s the worst that could happen should Lachie be given a guernsey this week?

The window depends upon getting two more years out of May, Gawn and Viney.

Why drive the players into the ground for minimal return.

To gain success in 2025 it's a 26/27 game season

It's not tanking.... it's player management

Has he earned a recall?  If we have decided to move him out at years end I'd be giving him his 200th V The Power IF we're out of contention. I don't see his form warranting a selection ahead of Sparrow or Tholstrup at this point.

It was also mentioned on Fox Footy's "the Tackle" that we were looking at bringing Hunter for the sole reason of playing his 200th against his old side.

I don't expect it to happen, but also wouldn't be shocked if it did.

In his one full AFL game this year he was actually pretty decent.

Yes there’s at least two relatively ‘new’ posters. New under their current username, that is. I’m sure they’re both incarnations of previous posters. One has actually implied as much. Called himself an ‘old sparring partner’ of Binman’s.

The other is (I think) a poster who gave me a ton of grief two years ago, now posting under another name.

Anyways, we know the trolls always lose in the end. 👊🏼

I swear Tom Morris lives rent free in hospital dumpsters.

His landlord is a soft touch. A skip with a working lid and a beautiful view of the concrete smoko area... $220 dollars a week... minimum.

I don’t know which match would be ‘fitting’ I’d just like to see him make the milestone. I don’t think any player should be denied their 200th game, especially if it’s feasible to have him in.

I think you meant c***

I think it’s fair enough to suggest that we are quite a small chance of making finals. I’m certainly not delusional enough to think we will make it.
But what we think as supporters shouldn’t matter. I don’t want our players thinking we aren’t going to make it and play like they don’t care about winning.

Likewise I’m happy to give Jefferson a taste, IF and only if the FD believes he deserves it. However I think that it’s equally important to get games into Disco and JVR and for Petty to continue to gain confidence in his body. So I’m not sure who you would drop for him.

I also hope that regardless of finals, we go all out to try and beat the Pies in round 24. And I would think there isn’t a Melbourne fan around who doesn’t want to see us beat that sh!tstain of a club!

Is it really necessary for you to disclose personal medical information Tom? Like are we all better off for knowing why Goody was in hospital?

I hate that man.

How do these people get others private medical information.

I can't remember who was coaching at the time, it was before goody but I remember him reporting that he was standing outside the door when the players were copping a bake & he was reporting on it.

He'd be someone you would never tell a secret to

True, yet AMW has the pace, strength, attitude and gumption to work the forward line opportunities. Better than Spargs, for example.

Doesn’t have the tank, work ethic and discipline but at this stage I’d rather give that a go forward than down back

If we miss the finals, it’s better that we miss by a lot.

We’d get a bottom 6 draw next year if we finished 13th.

Id rather us try to win and in-still good habits into the younger brigade but if things go to form Friday night, we are a chance to go winless the rest of the year.

A healthy list and an easier draw would be awesome for us.

Mathematically we can make the 8. That's all. We won't. Bulldogs will put an end to it this week anyway.  Cal Twomey is the draft guru and one of the best judges going around. In his latest article he is suggesting that any of the top 8 picks in the draft could be considered number one. Given that is the case the lower we finish the better. May be unpalatable to some but that is the reality. Remain competitive like Saturday night and that'll do. Send blokes off for early surgeries.  Rest veterans. Blood Jefferson. Look forward to earlier and longer break. Salivate over a potentially exciting October. Go again next year.  Go Demons!

I disagree. I don’t think we owe Hunter anything. He wasn’t wanted at the Dogs and my reliable source tells me there’s been little change in his off field behaviour. Better to give Tholstrup more experience.

Tom Morris is way off the Mark with his diagnosis of Simon Goodwins problem  he has been fed incorrect info and took the Bait a persons Health issues are Private and Confidential am not a Fan of Simons but HE SHOULD NOT HAVE COACHED last Saturday

Tom if you are reading this HAVE SOME RESPECT

Removing Rivers from the backline (sensible move) and partially Picket from the forward line opens a spot for a swinging small (no pun intended). If AMW could fill that role he would be invaluable.

Woewodin needs to show a little more. Perfect time to give him an extended AFL run. Not sure where he best fits longer term. 2025 will be his make or break year.

Does it make any sense that Geelong are paying $1.31.  Dogs are paying $1.32.

Crows have lost their last 5 against Geelong and not won at the cattery since 2003.

As a first year player he’s overdue for a rest imo. No game at any level. ‘Managed’

I’m of the belief that if we win against the dogs then we play finals. Port (at home) then two lame duck sides.

So I don’t love the idea of no Windsor but I trust Hunter can deliver enough.

Even if were to somehow beat the hottest team in the league on Friday, I can't see how we would then back it up the following 3 weeks.

2024 has been the year of inconsistency for the Dees as our form varies from week to week and even quarter to quarter.

The GWS loss summed up our season well I reckon.

I don’t think there will be much difference in the draw between bottom 6 and middle 6. Comp is very even now and the a lot of the teams in the bottom 6 will improve next year. Double ups are always important but amount of 5&6 day breaks are probably more important these days.

Logic says we're no chance this week against the Dogs. They're one of a few sides who are, on form and paper, beyond us right now (Fremantle, Brisbane, probably still Sydney too).

The small window of opportunity is that they're on a 5-day break, and under Beveridge have had a habit of losing easier games in the final month when top 4 has beckoned.

If we do somehow win this week, get some confidence up, who knows what happens against Port, but we've only played one genuinely bad game since the bye (Fremantle) so we're not that far off.

Versatile depth players are handy, that goes for both Taj and AMW.

But AMW badly needs to get through a full preseason and build an afl body and work rate.

Taj might play out the year due to lack of other options. The move down back has been good to get him some full game time. Not sure he’s got the tricks for that to be his long term role though.

I’d actually like to see him just settle at Casey at the start of next year and have an 8 week block dominating in the midfield before getting more AFL chances. He needs the footy in his hands 25-30 times a week for a while.

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.
