Hope that SEN phantom draft isn't a sign of things to come

Selecting both Smillie and Shanahan would be disappointing if all of Langford, Tauru, Reid and Travaglia are available at picks 5 and 9.

dees internal draft board generally incredibly different to consensus rankings

You've got your fingers on the pulse, love it.

Who was it first that confirmed Windsor to us before Twomey? Was it the Age the day before.

Twomey I reckon called it 2 or 3 days before. I remember being skeptical at the time and wishing we’d go for Curtin. Glad to be wrong

We were linked to Windsor a fair way out, but originally with pick 13

The Tholstrup links came way closer to the draft, after we made the trip over to grab some of his nan's roast

That roast must’ve been exquisite

SEN's 2024 AFL full Phantom Draft has us taking Josh Smillie with 5 (6), and Jobe Shanahan with 9 (11).

SEN's 2024 AFL full Phantom Draft

Richmond take Harvey Langford with 6 (7) and Alix Tauru with 10 (12).

I'd be thrilled with Smillie, but a hard no on Shanahan.  How many 195cm forwards do we need in the squad?  Does he provide any point of difference over the players we already have in those roles?  Much better off bringing in more midfield class.

Cal Twomey's Phantom Form Guide: Top draft prospects' November ranking

Please note that this is not his phantom draft. That is still to come.

Players Cal has mentioned that we may be linked to in ranking order:

2. Finn O’Sullivan
3. Harvey Langford
4. Jagga Smith
5. Sam Lalor
6. Murphy Reid
7. Sid Draper
8. Alix Tauru
10. Harry Armstrong
11. Bo Allan
12. Tobie Travaglia

Shanahan is much more athletic than what we have, he is much more in the Curnow mould.  I hope we get him

Not a fan of FOS, so of it purely came down to Jagga, Draper or Langford then it's a win for us either way.

Unfortunately there is no way Lalor lasts to our pick.

I reckon Carlton are a chance to take Draper

Did anyone else notice on Gettable that Cal linked us to Whitlock? It’s the first time I’ve heard that link, and I’m not even sure which brother he was referring to.

We’ve had a link to Jack previously (per Marc McGowan in the Age).

ABC have had a go at a phantom:

If Richmond don't take Lalor at pick 1, would North consider him at pick 2 over Tauru? I am really curious about this because the Dusty type would feel a bit like the icing on the cake for what they're trying to build midfield wise.

Just going on the ABC guide. The top 6 is almost set

1 Lalor

2 Tauru

3 O'Sullivan

4 Draper

5 Smith

6 Langford

It's going to be a tough decision on who the Dees pick up at 5 out of Smith and Langford better them choosing than me it would be a nightmare.

7 to 9 are a bit murkier.

Apparently St.Kilda are interested in Smillie, but I'm not sure anyone in the top 10 will pick him.

7 Travaglia

8 Armstrong

9 Allan

Shanahan and Reid are also in the mix at 9.

I haven't included Ashcroft because it makes no difference he's going to Brisbane.

I just dropped our first round (27 picks in total) mock draft on YouTube.  Have a look and let me know what you think:

I wouldn’t be sure of that. Lalor is still the pick 1 favourite but Cal sounds nervous.

The North and Adelaide pick swap seems genuinely possible. And Draper to Carlton has momentum too.

Every chance Cal’s phantom looks like this.

1. FOS (Rich)
2. Lalor (Adel) or Draper
3. Draper (Carl) or Lalor/Langford/Smith
4. Tauru (North).

4. Tauru (North)

5. Lalor (Melb)

  • PREVIEW: Geelong

"It's officially time for some alarm bells. I'm concerned about the lack of impact from their best players." This comment about one of the teams contesting this Friday night’s game came earlier in the week from a so-called expert radio commentator by the name of Kane Cornes. He wasn’t referring to the Melbourne Football Club but rather, this week’s home side, Geelong. The Cats are purring along with 1 win and 2 defeats and a percentage of 126.2 (courtesy of a big win at GMHBA Stadium in Round 1 vs Fremantle) which is one win more than Melbourne and double the percentage so I guess that, in the case of the Demons, its not just alarm bells, but distress signals. But don’t rely on me. Listen to Cornes who said this week about Melbourne:- “They can’t run. If you can’t run at speed and get out of the contest then you’re in trouble.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit.
Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.
