under his tenure they rose, won a premiership, fell again - but were one of the two or three most powerful and successful off-field sides in the competition

he's been with us since 2018, and seen us rise, win a premiership, and dipped badly in 2024 - we're yet to see if it's a blip or a long term fall - and has overseen record memberships and a genuine drive for two home bases at casey and now caulfield

The part I dont get is why Geelong? Did Pert choose them? Why would we be bolstering a potential rival or are we just throwing our hands in the air and admitting the window is shut at least for now?

To say we’ve had enough of Clarry is one thing. To use him as a pawn in a game of power struggle between the CEO/board and the FD, in some deluded attempt to be seen as “getting serious about our culture” is another. 

You can’t ask someone who’s struggling with serious health issues to sort themselves out, but then hold every small indiscretion against them along the way. Recovery is never linear. You either accept them, warts and all, or you don’t. 

But you absolutely do not dangle them like they’re a piece of meat at an all you can eat buffet, for your own convenience. We can’t keep throwing him on the table and threaten to give him away. We are like the boy who cried wolf at this point. 

Hard to find a more shambolic football club than this one

Either

1. Pert knew Jeelong were tracking him already, so decided to call who he knew was already interested (both lazy and incompetent, given the Cats lack of picks)

or

2. We did do the rounds, and it's Jeelong and only Jeelong who were keen

I'd probably rather take a trade value hit than a salary cap hit,  but both have long term implications, a good draftee can give 12 years service.

With potential relief from Brayshaw and ANB leaving the club probably already has a fair bit of room in the years ahead.  Adding 1.3mln to the pool is great and all but only if we think we can grab a player that will make a huge difference for a flag.  But the club doesnt seem to be a destination right now.  Otherwise we'll end up just overpaying the current players which is not a great scenario either.  

We can afford to pay 300k or 400k of his salary for an extra future first or second in my opinion.

I must admit I haven’t followed the Clarry situation all that closely as it all makes me pretty flat. But someone told me today that Clarry has not got the message and does not appear to be keen to turn his career around at Melbourne- so what choice do we have but to move him on. Sacrifice one to save the rest!

Agree with most we should have handle the media better, but the media appear to know more that our coach and have a direct line to the club gossip department.

We move Oliver, we get the best we can in return, we keep Trac and start to stabilise our culture. It’s painful, but it might be the only way forward.

Oh please don't speak for all of us. I do not know exactly whats happening, nor do I believe that Pert or Goody should be sacked.

I'm certainly not basing any of my understanding or opinions on media speculation or assumptions that keep being made by posters here.

The problem that I need to overcome now is that sadly I have completely lost trust in the people running the club. I get that at every club there is a large degree of spin, carefully worded comms and positive messaging sent by the club leaders which I understand is super important in building the membership base and maintaining their support. But the events of the past year or so have me finally feeling more like a foolish, gullible [censored] for believing it all rather than the optimistic, supportive member I usually am. I’m pretty sure I am not alone here. Bit like a bad long term relationship I imagine. Heart says “all good, travelling beautifully” but the brain says “you have got to be kidding”. 

I usually get really angry at supporters threatening to cancel memberships and burn scarves etc. However, right now, I can’t say I blame them one bit. Make no mistake, we are yet again perceived as the laughing stock of the competition (a position I thought we had left behind us a few years ago.)
 

How is it our skipper consistently manages to front the press, tell it like it is (be it good or bad) and come away with most people’s respect and understanding for the honesty?

How can our highly educated and incredibly experienced club execs seem to lack such skills to the point that members will now struggle to believe anything that comes out of their mouths. 

Has any club self destructed so badly in such a short period of time since a flag? 

All I want is for the constant spin to stop (starting with the B & F tomorrow night) , some honesty, some transparency and to be treated with some modicum of respect. Once this mess is behind us, and hopefully very soon, if the club do these things I will be back on for the ride. For me, the next few months are critical as to how I feel about this club moving forward and I really feel so upset even saying this.

Has anyone asked the question why Clayton was at the Brownlow? If there really was a strict set of guidelines to be met this year then why were we more than happy to let him go?
