    Everyone seems to be blaming Pert, and I’m not really a fan , but isn’t the cause of all this Clarry himself?

    He was warned and asked to change his ways a year ago , but apparently has transgressed again.

    Best on baller I’ve ever seen at Melbourne , and the whole thing is devastating, but what are we supposed to do??

    can someone please give a summary/update? i was under the impression that he/the club didn't want to trade him

    Media pundits and some posters are talking as if Melbourne have no choice but to let Oliver join Geelong for whatever scraps we get in return.

    Not so. It's time to get tough, tell other clubs to back off, and warn Oliver that the club will fine or suspend him for any further infractions.

    Melbourne have given him a contract that ensures he can retire from  a game a wealthy man. 

    The club has also gone out of its way to support him when he experienced off-field problems that have had an adverse effect on the team's performance levels.

    Metaphorically  speaking, his response is apparently to kick Melbourne players, officials and fans in the teeth.

    The notion of letting him leave for a likely mid-teens future draft pick, while still playing a hefty chunk of his salary, is frankly insane.

    Having seen how the Petracca and Oliver sagas have played out, one thing is now certain. Very few clubs, if any, will be offering seven-year contracts, even to superstars.

    That would be the List Management committee that every club has. Ours includes Lamb, Taylor, Goodwin and presumably Richardson.

    Clubs can front load contracts, which can be used in subsequent years.

    The draft is inefficient due to drafting U18s and clubs can can pick up high quality AFL players without premium picks.

    The draft is inefficient due to the academy systems and father son.

    With free agency and the power of the key player agents, player movement is easy.

    If things are actually beyond repair behind closed doors, I still think the calls to Geelong are an absolute last resort when all other options from every club are off the table.

    Whatever happened to Adelaide? If he's gone, why are we not pushing him to meet with them again given he was open to a move there. They have the picks. That he's apparently wanting to go to Geelong, and their sycophant media brigade are now driving it for peanuts is an absolute kick in the guts from this club and I'd rather he sit on the sidelines and we work to recover it, than get a mid teens pick from them.

      From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

      Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

      The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
