I'm relaxed and I know that he won't be traded and I'm not saying you're implying that.

The problem is that Cornes, Morris and their cohorts are saying with a straight face that it would be the right thing for the club to do. That's what's controversial.

PaulRB is right - it's more than controversial. It's an insult to the club and to us supporters.

That's literally their job... create controversy, generate clicks, annoy supporters.

I can certainly guarantee their bosses aren't pulling them into the office for a written warning for the generating clicks and creating controversy.. even though I still think what they have said is nothing on what we've already heard this year

Everyone wants the piece of the pie in being a big hot shot Journo. Example A being the two journalists in WA with their treatment of Adam Simpson.

The footy media landscape is only going to get much worse.

The media were all over the club and Oliver during the pre-season and at the beginning of the season. Morris is continuing to set-up the narrative around Oliver, now that we’re approaching the end of the home and away season. Once the season is complete and prior to the trade period, Morris will then go all in on the rumour (that he created).

"since i left you" is the greatest oztrayan album of all time

Totally agree.

I reckon it's certainly the most influential in terms of its impact on music internationally.

DJ shadow's endtroducing and since i left you changed the use of sampling from hooks and background effects in dance tracks and hip hop to being an instrument in its own right.

Both stand up still too.

Fun fact - Madonna has never approved one of her songs being sampled, until allowing avalanches to sample holiday on that album.

Which was crazy because at the time avalanches weren't even.a thing. Just some unknown guys Australia recording an.album that at the time had no applicable genre

I think ink I'm right in saying it's still the only sample Madonna has approved.

Avalanches recent music is awesome too by the by.

I mean, seriously, other people critising cornes rings your bell so much you feel the need to post about your discomfort (dressed up as derision)?

You seemingly have no insight into  the irony and contradiction at work here.

That sure is a lot of words to say very little.

Whilst Oliver has been down on his AFL ELITE standards. he is still ave or above ave in the key statistics.  He has clearly gone to a defensive mid role this year as he doesn't have his usual tank.  He wont be going anywhere unless he wants a change.

Which going on his rel with goody i can't see that happening.  I'm sure Kane wouldn't have said the same about Peter Burgoyne in 2000 when he was in off field strife.

Thanks for posting this - yes. He's down on his elite standards which is where he was in the first half of 2023 when he was getting up to near 40 disposals per game. Those figures need to also be taken in conjunction with his time on ground which is one of the other factors that sees him down from elite to average or above average in a number of categories.

I'm sure there will be a lot of time put into getting a full pre season into his body and legs so that he can get up to elite in every category and then watch out.

"paul's boutique" walked so that "endtroducing" could run

she didn't approve the "holiday" sample, hence why it's only on the 'gimix' mixtape that they gave out before the album came out that had all the 'unapproved' samples

i don't think she approved the ciccone youth sample that's used in the cover of "into the groove(y)" either

you coming to kim gordon next week?

From Madonna's official website:

HOLIDAY TO BE SAMPLED BY THE AVALANCHES

March 30, 2001
According NME, Madonna's 17 year old classic 1980's Hit single Holiday is to appear on a new album by The Avalanches. Now, the classic celebration of life hit single will soon be sampled in an instrumental version on the album track Stay Another Season. A spokesman for The Avalanches said, When Madonna went into her office with the new CD, she listened to it and then said the band could use the sample. They never expected to use it but they were really pleased she let them do it. The new album by The Avalanches called Since I left You will be on sale in music stores everywhere on April 15th.

Tom Morris must be loving these 5 pages being generated off his made up nonsense

Please stop posting. Don't pour fuel on the fire.

Nup.

Forgot about it to be honest.

An all time favorite gig of mine was seeing Social Youth, supported by Bored, at the Colendena Hotel in Torquay

Only about 200 people there. Just a crazy good gig.

can the real slimshady Tom Morris please stand up, please stand up.

Goodwin has shown that he is capable of making ruthless decisions on players who are distractions. This is definitely a 'watch this space' and, if we do put Oliver on the trade block again, I trust that the club knows more than us.

I view salary cap space as the club's most important football asset (much more important than picks because the draft is inefficient and players can get to their preferred clubs) and so an Oliver trade could look terrible on the surface but leave us in a better position.

I also think that the difference between Oliver being a superstar and a plodder is whether or not he can regain his elite speed. He is not a great kick and, when he cannot break away from congestion, he has become a liability on the field. Is the loss of Oliver's breakaway speed due to his poor preseason or is it due to age and the rest of the competition catching up? (I am sure it is both, but it is hard to say which is more.)

I think his last line sums up this poster pretty well. Empathy has never been his strong suit. His analysis work is usually spot on, and engaging, but when he “plays the man”, he loses me every time.

Why not if he has a trouble free pre season? No  reason at all just half glass empty supporter/s who don’t look logically why he is not as fit or quick as he’s was. It’s al about pre season that the Club has on tap!

The media are always going to generate a story from something. In this instance its based on some sort of facts:

- Clayton's clearly had a down year by his lofty standards due to a multiple of reasons we're all aware of

- Clubs will certainly be enquiring to see if there is a 'buy low' opportunity where they can trade for him for less of his value pre 2023

- Kane (while being a total bobble head) is correct in that teams will be scared of his salary without the assurance he's going to get back to the player he was. But also that Melbourne might be enticed to get that salary (or at least a high fraction) off their books to open up more flexibility.

That all being said as others have noted I don't think he's going anywhere. The main reason being that he's turning 27 this weekend and still has his prime in front of him if he wants it with a club that is right behind him, backing him in. The club simply won't gamble with him like that if they truly believe he can get back to his best. There's been enough this year to show even if not fully fit for a full season, that he's still important and effective. With a full preseason, I think he can get back to being a top 10 midfielder.

There was a pic of Oliver’s hand the week he came back doing the rounds at the time. Considering his hand was stuffed before he had it operated on, his ability to play post surgery was incredible. It looked awful.

Up until this year, he’s been one of our top 3 players since his 2nd season.

People should give him a break and be respectful of his illness.

@Gator needs to post more.

One of the more respected members of this page for many years. From a footy analysis point of view he just calls it as he sees it and you can never have enough of people of that ilk around here.

Love that they all touched Gus' helmet as they ran up the race to the ground

I believe they have been doing that since Rd1 - great way honour the great man, Gussy.

It's just they don't have a camera down the races with the team so you have to watch carefully to see them do it when they come onto the ground. I've missed a few games so not sure if it's just for home games or every game?

Brisbane have been doing a similar thing for a few seasons with a boxing gloves hanging at their home games, but haven't looked into why they do it or it's just a motivation ritual they've adopted perhaps. They usually have a camera down the races so you often see this.

Anyway, great respect shown to Gus. I'd personally like to see until they will their next flag 😍

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.
