Send him to Collingwood. He was happy to hug and laugh with that #4 thug that plays in the white and black.

he cant go to the pies, they have no cap, no picks and the players they have taken in the first round are [censored], carlton is the same but they are in a much worse position then the pies and us, the only place he can go is the tigers or saints but they are no better then us so there is really no point. i will give him the benefit of the doubt this year because of the injury but next year there is no excuses

I have a new most disliked player-Butters.

I find his behaviour on the field pathetic.

Totally agree.

he also looks like Ramsay Bolton from GoT.

I would absolutely kill for Butters to be in our side. He’ll do absolutely bonkers things for his team.

As tough/kamikaze as Viney, as damaging as Trac and a better kick than our entire side. He had a few kicks out of contest today that were just brilliant, his vision must be phenomenal.

Butters is just about my favourite non Dees player in the comp

Yes he’s a [censored] talker but no one puts their body on the line like he does

And he hits targets - imagine that!

cal is the only media person who repeatedly says that we've targeted key forwards over the last few years

most other media nuffies just say that we should...completely ignoring that it ain't for want of trying...

He also confirms how hard it is to get them to move.

I agree we have been looking and those who say otherwise are 'nuffies'.

However, we haven't landed anything. That's not good enough.

If you believe reports, Ben King will be a pie. If that does happen that would mean Collingwood would have brought in McStay and King in 5 years. Us? Fullarton (does he count)?

i have not seen said reports - the gc17 player that seems to get most commonly linked to the filth is matt rowell

ben king is signed up there til the end of 2026 on massive coin that would see him clearly be a restricted free agent when he comes ooc; they ain't going to give him easily

McStay has never kicked more than 28 goals in a season. He wouldn't have changed our fortunes.

In our long bomb forward line he would be hopeless. With the pies exceptional delivery he looks a million dollars

Carlton have curnow and mckay yet still struggle because their mids delivery is as bad as ours

deliver the ball property and coach our forwards some method and we might have a chance.

he's not the model of consistency but he is a fantastic player to watch when on song

Link?

He’s a gun and would be a dream get if there was any way to bring him in

I see that as a good thing. Bring him in and whoever is the new whipping boy we can refer to as reek.

This.

Curnow was hopeless today and that was nothing to do with Curnow.

I'm sure it's an unpopular opinion who those who think a key forward will solve all our problems, but I am firmly in the "our forwards aren't actually that bad" camp.

If you put JVR, Turner, Petty, Fritsch, Kossie, Melksham and co infront of a competent midfield who get it in fast and to their advantage they'd all be completely different players.

Firstly, I agree with you. Second it feels like DL goes full circular about forward or forward delivery being the source of scoring once every 6 weeks. At the 3 week mark its inaccuracy.

He has had bad luck with injuries...

Let me just check Fullarton's stats in comparison.

why?

mcstay is a serious player for top teams

fullarton is...tall

Because Fullarton is the only tall forward we've been able to bring in.

My main point is that I accept we are looking, but it's been an utter failure to not bring in anyone for 5 years.

in the last five years?

ben brown was in that time period as well as a couple of first round picks (van rooyen, jefferson), plus more speculative selections such as luker kentfield and aidan johnson

i'm still hopeful that jvr and el jefe can become an awesome double tall duo; hopeful, but not expectant given how lacklustre they have been this year

jvr was tracking very well prior to now, so i expect he can return to form

Exactly, does anyone think Caddy or Morris would be any good for us, they’d look like JVR, bereft of confidence. It’s why we can’t persist with the Butcher Trio in the middle together.

McStay's contract with Pies is 5 years estimated at $600k per.

Fullerton signed with us for 2 years at I assume more like half that salary.

McStay has missed more than half the games through multiple injuries since joining and when playing has averaged just over 1 goal and 4 marks a game.

I would take Fullerton's non impact over 2 years over the cost and patchy impact of McStay at the Pies.

I suggest landing a quality proven key forward at end of 2025 is unlikely with us based on market and chips to get a deal. We have to my knowledge attempted to land Larkey, Mitch Lewis, Tex Walker and Waterman at different points in time and all stayed at their original clubs. I am sure there would have been others.

Our best path is as others have stated, bring in better ball users through the midfield via positional changes, trade (in and out) and draft. I hope we never see Oliver, Petracca and Viney at a centre bounce together again.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

The Gold Coast Suns find themselves outside of the top eight for the first time since Round 1 with pressure is mounting on the entire organisation. Their coach Damien Hardwick expressed his frustration at his team’s condition last week by making a middle-finger gesture on television that earned him a fine for his troubles. He showed his desperation by claiming that Fox should pick up the tab.  There’s little doubt the Suns have shown improvement in 2025, and their position on the ladder is influenced to some extent by having played fewer games than their rivals for a playoff role at the end of the season, courtesy of the disruption caused by Cyclone Alfred in March.  However, they are following the same trajectory that hindered the club in past years whenever they appeared to be nearing their potential. As a consequence, that Hardwick gesture should be considered as more than a mere behavioral lapse. It’s a distress signal that does not bode well for the Queenslanders. While the Suns are eager to remain in contention with the top eight, Melbourne faces its own crisis, which is similarly deep-seated but in a much different way. After recovering from a disappointing start to the season and nearing a return to respectability among its peer clubs, the Demons have experienced a decline in status, driven by the fact that while their form has been reasonable (see their performance against the ladder leader in the Kings Birthday match), their conversion in front of goal is poor enough to rank last in the competition. Furthermore, their opponents find them exceptionally easy to score against. As a result, they have effectively eliminated themselves from the finals race and are again positioned to finish in the bottom half of the ladder.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
