Still call Schwarta Theo instead of the Ox 😆

That was Neil Balme wasn't it?

edit: A quick search turned up this snippet. Blame the author for misspelling Schwarz's name!

But  the  best  story  involved  Balme’s  time  coaching  Melbourne.  It  was  during  this  time  that  David  Schwartz  exploded  onto  the  scene.  He  went  through  a  purple  patch  where  he  was  tearing  games  apart  single  handedly  and  due  to  his  size  and  strength  got  the  nickname  “The  Ox”.  As  David  Neitz  relayed  “Schwarter  got  a  bit  ahead  of  himself”  when  he  went  out  and  purchased  a  Saab  convertible  sports  car  and  attached  the  number  plate  “THE  OX”  to  his  beloved  machine.  One  Sunday  morning  training  session,  after  a  tough  Melbourne  loss,  Balmey  arrived  ill  of  temper  and  lacking  sleep  only  to  see  the  Saab  with  “THE  OX”  number  plates  parked  in  his  spot.  Balmey  decided  it  was  time  to  deflate  Schwartz’s  ego  a  bit,  so  he  stormed  into  the  changing  rooms  and  bellowed  at  the  top  of  his  voice,

“Who  the  fu!*  is  THEO-X”

I stand corrected - was Balmey. Could've sworn blue it was danners though - mixing my memories

A lot of love between some Dees players and Flyin Ryan tonight before and after the game 🤔

Let's hope so. I'd love him in our forward half alongside Kozzy. We need more x factor.

Fritsch to Essendon for their highest first round pick. Oliver to some team for their fist round pick other than Geelong and assuming he takes a pay cut. Kozzie to Fremantle for fist rounder plus a future F1.

We may have to 2nd round swaps as for sweeteners. We extract Jackson from Freo and Harley from W.C (probably not going to happen) then we aim for another classy mid. We also try to get Georgiades from P.Adel. We can off load Sparrow to S.A for a 2nd rd pick. In summary we need a mid, forward and a ruckman/forward.

If Kozzy goes, we also need a small forward with x-factor. Because both Kozzy and Fritta (to a lesser extent) are really the only x-factor type players we have.

I love the ambition but you’re dreaming if you think we’re getting a high first round pick for Fritsch

Unless he returns to his 21/22 form I can’t see him netting us any more than an early second rounder at this stage

Jake Stringer kicked 40+ goals for Essendon last year and he was traded to the Giants for pick 40-something

The reason being was his conditioning and lack of defensive efforts

And while I don’t think Fritsch has the same conditioning issues as Stringer, clubs simply aren’t putting a premium on small/medium forwards who don’t run, chase and tackle, even if they are hitting the scoreboard

That is...surprising

Yeah, i think they just printed it since they're young and OOC - i really doubt Verrall is getting any big offers from a rival

This isn't the right thread as it is our players being targeted but not sure where else to put it.

Don't like the sound of this about Sestan, AMW and Verall:

"... a trio of developing prospects — including two untried rookies — have made their way into the notebooks of rival recruiters as they build strong reserves form".

"The trio’s development as two rookie selections and a Category B rookie respectively, paired with their versatility is seen as their biggest drawcard for rival recruiters keeping tabs".

Not sure what the rules are for trading rookies but the return would be very little. We've put three years of development into them. Let hope we don't lose them for lack of opportunity and that investment is lost..

Young gun’s aspirations could spark surprise exit offers as rivals track Demons trio: Trade Latest

Edited by Lucifers Hero

Losing games and not having a new modern facility being announced, will continue to cost us recruiting good players from other clubs.

No good players are coming to us via a trade unless we pay them overs whilst we are based at Casey. From what I can see it's been the biggest hurdle attracting players. Players all want to live in the inner city trendy suburbs or bayside... why would anyone want to travel an hour each way to nowhere when they can find a club closer in?!...

Has anybody mentioned McAdams brother, Ash Johnson, out of contract at years end.

Has shown up in plenty of highlights.

You can’t sell Caulfield to prospective players, something we have talked about for forty years, and may or may not happen in five years.

Our training setup at Goschs is not that bad, and Caulfield is not going to land us much closer to Casey fields anyway.

A poor man’s Fritsch; it’s a no from me. Given where our side is at, we are dying for competitors who have grit and fortitude. Johnson has neither and is also a fairly poor user of the ball.

If we were competing like we did in 2021, you could probably carry a player like this (see: Fritsch), but with the issues we have players like this are easily exposed and contribute further to being exposed tactically and the easy transition of the ball from our F50.

Ryan Maric from WCE would be a great get I reckon. Drafted as a forward. From Drouin so not far from Cranbourne and been terrific in defence this year. Good size too at 196cm. Contracted for 2026 but would be disappointed if he was not on our radar, especially if we lose any WA boys. Maric for JVR perhaps????

@bluey ummm “Our training setup at Goschs is not that bad, and Caulfield is not going to land us much closer to Casey fields anyway”.

Caulfield is SO MUCH CLOSER than Casey fields. Goschs to Caulfield. 12 kms. Goschs to Cranbourne. 52 kms.

Caulfield HOME base would be a HUGE POSITIVE STEP if MFC could get a deal done & delivered!!

Hawthorn train in Dingley, Essendon in Tullamarine, Casey is no further away

I've been keen on him for a while now, so happy to hear we are into him.

Super versatile and great boot. It would be like adding another Rives to the list, allowing us to push Riv/Windsor/Mcvee further up the ground or into the midfield.

Problem is, he wouldn't been cheap.....

Geographically challenged?

MCG to Tullamarine is 26km

MCG to Dingley is 29km

MCG to Casey is 52km

Please check facts first.

Would be worth every cent. Everytime I see Port play he plays well ... and I watch us every week so... 🤣

But he seems to be good one on one, great intercepter and as far as I can tell is an excellent metres gained player.
