Yeah remember when goody chose Schache over him in a final last year

But would Goody have not given him a run either?

Wow a functional forward line who would have thought that, maybe just a thought we could try that...

And don't discount a midfield who can deliver cleanly too.

PS ... and a plan too

assume you are joking? Schache is not a ruckman. Grundy is a great ruckman and nothing more. He is a horrible key fwd

The Swans are a talented team, but they are just having one of those seasons where it all really clicks - like us in ‘21, Cats in ‘22, and Pies last year.

They have the confidence of a team who are having their year.

Shaping up that way, but I still have this niggling suspicion that they will freeze up on the big stage at the MCG in September ... 🤔

You are delusional if you think Shcache was a better option than Grundy

Our list has been ruined by a very stubborn man

Goodwin lost me when he refused to play Grundy in the finals even as a sub biggest flip flop coach, sure win a flag but since has don’t [censored]

Actually, Schache is neither, sadly.

as one of the commentators said today, or a variation on it - "grundy is fantastic when he can work himself into the game throughout the course of play"

which is true

it's also what sets gawn apart as the best ruckman ever

having them together in the same side was just a waste of two incredible talents

Nar mate. They’ll have learned their lessons from 2022.

I know you have massive skin in the game this year with the hope that Carlton will knock off Sydney in the grand final.

But Sydney are on a different planet this year and will win the flag accordingly. If they don’t, then Longmire really needs to cop it from the media as that will be 1-4 in grand finals.

So should we cop it more for:

1) trading him into the club

OR

2) for trading him to Sydney for a mediocre draft pick and at the same time making Sydney a dramatically improved side due to obtaining the recruit of the year.

Can’t believe we got a 2nd rounder for Grundy.

We have lost our ruthlessness in every aspect.

The trading aspect of the deal was surprising, as they wanted him as their number 1 ruckman.

It was a disappointing return for us on that basis, as I don’t think we even used the pick we received.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

JJ as a FA went for nothing.

Very disappointing all around.

Armed an opponent with 2 regular best 22 players for little return.

Our recruiting needs to be questioned seeing Chol …yet we get Fullerton who hasn’t played a game after the Grundy disaster, throw in billings, Shache, Hunter & have a trifecta of has beens, that’s not topping up to win another flag , not sure what their strategy is/was, but it reflects the flip flop of Goodwin

Yes even the runners need to come under question because the water was too warm. In hindsight it's easy to say these things.

Don't overrate Grundy's game.  He played against a bloke with half a dozen games and didn't do a lot of damage. 61% of his disposals were inefficient.  He got 13 disposals in the last quarter when the game was over and only 38% of those were efficient. There is a reason why ruckman need to stay out of the mids way.  Especially when you have mids like Warner, Heeney and Gulden. Grundy is useful in so far is own hit zone.  Once again zero contested marks and only 180 m gained for 31 disposals.  The media will love it and keep talking him up, while oppo coaches will keep being happy if he gets big numbers and keeps giving it back. The swans are playing amazing footy at the moment and everything is papered over by winning.  I can recall the 2019 prelim when Grundy's 73 hitouts won the Giants the game!  He has a bad habit of creating scores for the opposition through poor ruck work or poor disposal.  The goal to Lachie Sholl the perfect example last night. Defensively, he is poor one on one. I look forward to seeing how he fares over the next few games. Briggs; Darcy/Jackson; Marshall then Xerri. All quite a bit better than Strachan. Grundy is in the right place now, but in fairness to both Collingwood and Melbourne, he had been poor since he signed the big contract.  Collingwood have proven they are better without him and Melbourne never really found a useful purpose for him and he certainly wasn't demanding selection. And Collingwood are still paying a fair bit for him too!

Correct somewhat but look at the players and what they were doing at their previous clubs … zero

Schache was played as a sub as a backup ruck.

Grundys tap work is very good and he's also pretty good at ground level.

But Maxy is still a better ruck than Grundy.

And as a player, Max  is streets ahead of Grundy.

I do wonder if our list was as incredible as people have argued. Of course our list was great but not a list of the ages. There was never a star full forward.

I think it was a case of Goody getting the absolute best of the boys in 21. We also had a great run in terms of few injuries.

But in 21 the signs of a missing forward line were definitely there.

Tmac started 21 very well and was instrumental in us kicking some big score but he started to go downhill mid season. Bbb as well.

At the start of 22 our forward line showed big problems. Again Bbb and Tmac had issues. Jackson left but he was never a prolific fwd by any stretch.

23 saw the same as this year as the Grundy/ Mac fwd idea unravelled. That was it. Lucky for us Milk stepped up but was dealt a cruel blow.

So our list with a great backline and definitely classy midfield was left exposed the last two years by a dodgy forward line

A great list has a great fwd line. We didn't and don't.

We did well to play finals in 22 and 23 but surprise... surprise our fwd line imploded on both finals campaigns.

Now this year our midfield despite the objections of a few faithful fans has definitely struggled leaving only one component left...our backline.

Against Freo and Eagles and pies  we saw Lever out injured and  Petty still not defending. So our fwd , midfield and backline all had big issues and there goes the ballgame.

Sorry Ww S, I went way off on a tangent or two here.

LIVE AND LET DIE by Meggs

The Demons’ impressive late season charge to finals will most likely come unstuck this Saturday evening when the Bombers blow up the also-ran Blues in the Ikon Park double-header.   To mangle McCartney, what does it matter to ya? To have any chance to play next week Narrm has got a job to do and needs to do it well.  We’ve got to give the Pie sheilas hell, say live and let die! It’s Indigenous Round for this game and the chance to celebrate and engage with Aboriginal and Torres

Failed to fulfill the promise of his breakout six goal effort against the Tigers in 2023 and was generally disappointing as a key forward. Sadly, had to wrap up a great career in midstream on the back of multiple concussions which culminated in the Maynard hit in the 2023 Qualifying Final.
