    Despite being a premiership player with 200+ games Maynard will only be remembered for one thing. Even of one believes his action was legitimate, which I personally find laughable, it will define him for years to come. We all know that Greg Chappell Was a superb batsman however the average punter remembers the underarm incident. This will be Maynard's legacy which barely compensates for ruining a stars career.

    Gus kicked it on his right foot so that's wrong for a start, Maynard was just starting to jump as Gus  kicked it I have tried to up load it but it says it's to big that would show it.

    yep agree 100%, combined with us as a team that don't have a lot of players who are precise by foot & missing targets, especially whilst under pressure from a fleet footed football team (say that three times after a few beers!)  and our backline is never going to cope.

    Gus was running forward so he was moving closer to Maynard as I have repeatedly said if Maynard had kept his hands up and collided with Gus it would have not the same impact.

    Players are taught to protect their body and it becomes natural to them, if he really wanted to deliberately wanted to take him out he would not have been in the air around the same time as the ball hit the boot.

    I genuinely hope that Petty finds some good form but I won't hold my breath 

    He's played around 11 games fwd this year and with the exception of a very good game against Geelong the other 10 have been well below standard.

    At what stage will Goody simply have to make a change?

    Or does Petty just continue to play out the rest of the season in his current form?

    Surely a change of moving him down back or dropping him will eventually have to take place.

    Sadly not one person held him to any account or even bother to challenge the broad narrative that it was a footy act.  I have no doubt that if not Collingwood and/or during finals he'd have been suspended. 

    From that vision it can only be one of two things. 

    One, and at best, Maynard made himself into a missile and acted cowardly by by only protecting himself with no regard for Gus 

    Two, and at worst, Maynard deliberately took the opportunity to maim his opponent, someone in a helmet with a history of concussion and one of the oppositions best players in the first qtr of a final.

    If Scott Pendlebury was in the landing zone instead of Gus there is no way he would have come down like that.

    Maynard's initial intention was to smother.  His second intention include zero compassion for an opponent

    I'm in the RoCo camp.  The season isn't over and we are not a bad team.  We are a good team that isn't playing well at the moment.  This season, that fluctuates from week to week.  Petracca is a loss, no doubt, but plenty of teams have made finals (and won flags) with great players missing. Adelaide's first flag was won with Mark Riccuito; North won in 1977 without Keith Greig; in the last game before the 1987 finals Garry Lyon broke his leg; Bob Murphy missed the 2016 flag. History is littered with great players copping untimely injuries.  We still have plenty of terrific players.  Viney and Oliver are the potential difference makers here.  They have given nothing so far this season. They need to lift. With Lever back, our defence is still among the best in the comp.  Melksham is a matter of weeks away.  That will help the forward line immeasurably. If we get to 9-7 we are right in it.  The next three weeks will tell us plenty.  We have a fixture that means we get to play mostly sides with similar win-loss rates to us.  It's all in our hands.

    again, our club absolutely [censored] the bed on the PR side by not having Roffey or pert right behind Daicos and Maynard at quarter time to get on the record with channel 7 about our expectations for the length of suspension for what was clearly a reckless and avoidable act 

    I’ll never forget that

    Jesus did you even look at it, you said Gus kicked on his left wrong, you lot are so one eyed is become a joke, as I have said so many times the initial act ok the end was not and should have been suspended,  if he had continued with arms up no problem you guys are trying your dislike for someone to justify it.

      Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

    • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

      Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

    • REPORT: West Coast

      On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.
