    There are a lot of angry posters here tonight and I get that. I'm bitterly disappointed and angry at the substandard level of turnovers, broken tackles and easy misses. Neale Daniher emphasised being selfless, I saw none of that today.

    We go short when under pressure yet wont hit up a short lead when it presents up forward and have a shot at goal. Viney burnt Max and his shot didn't even make the distance and that wasn't the only occasion. Collingwood showed us time and time again how to play team football.

    When  players are out in space and it's turned over or smothered (Yes Fritch I am pointing the finger at you) it rebounds straight down the other end. When I look at the centre bounce and see Chandler, Langdon & Laurie as our half-forward line I know we are in strife.

    There are 2 strapping kids at Casey who have more flair, daring and desire than Laurie & Chandler . How many times will it take to realise players of their diminutive size need a special skill be it pace, kicking or tackling, time to give someone else a go. Stop trying to turn backmen in to forwards, there is another key forward at Casey who was recruited as a forward why not play him?. For those who don't know who I am talking about I mean Tholstrup, Sestan and Jefferson. They only have to get 4 kicks and 3 handballs to be more effective than the incumbents.

    Thank goodness for the bye so we don't have to put up with this rubbish next week.

    I am not convinced on this idea of the shots at goal. The Pies slotted a number of “hope for” goals from 50m and on the boundary but basically slotted everything they should have from 35m. They actually kicked to the left hand pocket a number of times to find a marking target who then converted. 

    Alternatively we missed numerous shots from 35 that we should have slotted and zero that you might hope for. 
     

    As bad as we were, if we kicked what we should have, we would have been much closer but not to say we could have won as the Pies would have just ramped up the pressure if it was close. They had us covered all day.

    Since round 11 2022 we've had pressure piled on to us.  One thing after another and sadly more that one own goal.  Once cracks appear they either get fixed or widen slowly.

    Smith/Asada disaster 

    Angus tragedy 

    The media has attacked us in a fashion most other clubs wouldn't have to endure, with no protection from the league.  

    I'm tired from it...it's hard trying to run through brick walls day after day.

    Harsh.  I could definitely hear our "supporter" base boo Maynard as I watched the game live at the g surrounded by the cheer squad.

    I'm not suggesting that any of us are 'helping.' My point was that I would've assumed that we're well past the stage where we can accept [censored] performances like today if enough 'effort' was there.

    And FWIW, I thought our effort today sucked. We look disinterested and worn out.

    Watched the Fox pre match and said to my kids 15 minutes from the bounce- what is wrong with the Melbourne players? They look flat and disinterested. Not saying I predicted the result but I have not seen them look so switched off and appearing as though they cbf’d. Could be a coincidence but not they looked very very flat in the pre match. The rest is history. Something seems to be way way off in the attitude and mental approach department. Worst month of footy for a long time.

    Staggering that Goodwin put even the slightest positive spin on that game.

    The Pies had an absurd amount of gun players out and only got 15 touches from far and away their best player. That quite frankly should’ve been a 6 goal win to us based on played availability but instead the game was over at 3 qtr time.

    Great games from Gawn and Nibbler van Rooyen and Kossie were ok but the rest were disgracful. Clarry ? What are they going to do with him? I thought he was worst on ground today he is a shadow of his former self. I admit I was a bit harsh on saying he's destroyed the club, but I won't back down saying he's one of the main reasons we are where we are. He's lucky that Trac is injured otherwise I'd be calling him to be dropped again. I've had enough of the new Clarry time he pulls his finger out of his backside.

    Have to give a lot of credit to Alex Neal-Bullen for his job on Daicos. Although I thought it robbed us of a system component he certainly did a great job.

    ANB has been one the better players this year, one of if not his best seasons.

    The problem is in this new game style he and Viney are often the player on the end of a handball receive.     Somehow Goodwin has constructed a game plan that plays directly into the most glaring weakness of his midfield.   It's quite remarkable really.

    Contested Clarry was actually ok today and he's getting his fitness back. As a fix, he simply calls for handball receives too much when he's in terrible positions.  Either he's doing it on his own, or his coach is instructing him to.   It's gotta stop.

    It’s odd. Watching Clarrie today he was getting possessions but he is just immediately handballing or kicking blindly, mostly to our disadvantage. I understand someone having a poor preseason would be short of a gallop, not getting to contests etc. Today he was getting his hands on it but his decision making, poise, extraordinary peripheral vision that once allowed him to fire out a handball to a target in heavy traffic, has evaporated! 

    I always thought for a midfielder, that ability to work in heavy traffic was a skill you don’t loose overnight, even if you lack fitness or loose a yard in pace.

    We'll have to be content with tat for another fifty years it seems. I'm middle aged and will likely never get to watch a demon flag at the MCG. The club brings me nothing but misery. I don't know why I keep supporting so hard at this point.

    I’m sorry about your dad. Yeah we all watched on TV (those who lived in Victoria and were locked in by Dictator Dan).

    AFL clubs are like family. You don’t get to pick them, like your friends.

    I was saying to a mate on the phone post game. We should have known that even when Melb were having their best era of 50+ years they’d still manage to torture us. It won’t stop me going and suffering through though.

    I know his skills aren’t great but neither were Hunts.

    AMW has pace. Have a look at him. He may be better in an better standard.

    I hear ya. That finals series changed a lot of how I view the game now. I don't get triggered by any stupid AFL decisions anymore because seeing them not uphold their own rules was the final straw. I was absolutely spent  as soon as that season ended, I had spent nearly every week of the season hell bent on seeing that illusive flag at the G, I became obsessed and it was exhausting. I didn't want to know about footy for months, as a matter of fact the new season came way too soon, I could have gone another few months without it. I'd also had some personal news that I'm still currently trying to work through that put things into perspective. 

    Because of all of this I changed my attitude towards our fortunes. I lowered the expectations and tried to get back to just enjoying the game for what it is. It hasn't been easy, but I don't regret this. I also decided that 21 was likely 'the one' and to just be eternally grateful for what I was able to see. 

    We as fans got bashed around last year. None of this is meant to be a sympathy story but I have certainly changed as a result of it.

Our mids are not just butchers they can't 'solve the puzzle' of where or to whom the next possession should go. At one point I saw Oliver remonstrating with him about his decision making and disposal which was peak irony. 

    I saw that too cause he wouldn't pass to him

      Having convincingly defeated last year’s premier and decisively outplayed the runner-up with 8.2 in the final quarter, nothing epitomized the Melbourne Football Club’s performance more than its 1.12 final half, particularly the eight consecutive behinds in the last term, against a struggling St Kilda team in the midst of a dismal losing streak. Just when stability and consistency were anticipated within the Demon ranks, they delivered a quintessential performance marked by instability and ill-conceived decisions, with the most striking aspect being their inaccuracy in kicking for goal, which suggested a lack of preparation (instead of sleeping in their hotel in Alice, were they having a night on the turps) rather than a well-rested team. Let’s face it - this kicking disease that makes them look like raw amateurs is becoming a millstone around the team’s neck.

      The Casey Demons were always expected to emerge victorious in their matchup against the lowly-ranked Sydney Swans at picturesque Tramway Oval, situated in the shadows of the SCG in Moore Park. They dominated the proceedings in the opening two and a half quarters of the game but had little to show for it. This was primarily due to their own sloppy errors in a low-standard game that produced a number of crowded mauls reminiscent of the rugby game popular in old Sydney Town. However, when the Swans tired, as teams often do when they turn games into ugly defensive contests, Casey lifted the standard of its own play and … it was off to the races. Not to nearby Randwick but to a different race with an objective of piling on goal after goal on the way to a mammoth victory. At the 25-minute mark of the third quarter, the Demons held a slender 14-point lead over the Swans, who are ahead on the ladder of only the previous week's opposition, the ailing Bullants. Forty minutes later, they had more than fully compensated for the sloppiness of their earlier play with a decisive 94-point victory, that culminated in a rousing finish which yielded thirteen unanswered goals. Kicks hit their targets, the ball found itself going through the middle and every player made a contribution.

    • REPORT: St. Kilda

      Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds. 
      This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
