6.20 Sunday. Been like this since COVID. Not a fan but is what it is.

Guess we'll have a good clue about who's in/out when Casey run out tomorrow afternoon. Or better yet when the Casey squad is announce, whenever that may be.

Incredibly unlikely IMO. Clarrie has been going OK, just not at his usual sensational best.

With the bye one week away I will be amazed if anyone is out "managed". When was the last time that happened at selection for us?

you could be right

but zero contested possessions in a half of footy is not Clarry. Give him this week and the bye off to try to get right.

just an uninformed opinion

Im starting to think, apart from JVR returning, no change. Goodwin needs to read out the Riot Act. Your careers are on the line today infront of 90,000.

If you dont like it then get a different job making only 75k a year.

Get it done!

shocked bart simpson GIF

Some here may recall former coach Neil Balme circa1994? Kicking a chair which flew across the visitors change rooms at Kardinia Park. Immediately after a defeat of similar proportions to last Sunday's shellacking in the Alice. Got a response too, the very next round at Princess Park. We turned up to play, Allen Jakovich was at his imperious best. It was a responding victory against the odds.

Love and respect Neil Daniher. King's Birthday is very much his MND awareness and fund raising day. But down in the rooms a bit of fire and brimstone from Balmy wouldn't go astray.

Gawn May and Trac out through injury?

Selection for this week against the Filth is critical, delayed, non-communicative. If so many players being considered that minds and fitness cannot be related at this point (Sat), it looks like another loss coming up perhaps.

I am expecting a 40 pt loss to the Dees. The woods may have injury carnage however we don't have any forwards , our midfield is shot and defence is fair.  I expect the dogs, lions and hawks to jump us on the ladder with the next 3 weeks.

Goody and co. must go. We need to trade Petty , Clarry , Chandler , Tommo and much more.

Really interested in selection this week.

Why the delay and goody saying let's take 24 hours more and sleep on a possible decision.

I sense something big?

Reckon it's Petty related. Put him back, and what to do forward.

There was some talk in the media earlier in the week that there was a lot of internal debate about Petty, but Goody wanted to keep him forward. Maybe Richo and the other coaches are finally trying to force Goody's hand?

I highly doubt we are delaying our team announcements. Pies haven't got their team up either.

It would be that Monday games don't get announced until presumably Sunday night for whatever reason.

We wouldn't be allowed to do that. The AFL would advise when teams need to be announced

Well it’s because teams normally come out 2 days in advance.

Another example of how the AFL like to [censored] with fans.

Dont mean to come across as a smart [censored] but they only give one days notice for Thursday, Friday and, as it appears, Monday games.

I don't like it either and we should have at least had an extended squad tonight in my opinion. Bit of a joke that the senior team may not be announced before your reserves have played a game.

You're confusing team announcement which this week will be tomorrow arvo.

It's when the line up is locked away internally that I am referring too. As stated by Goodwin suggesting match comments sleep on it an extra 24 has. They will have made the call now. Just not publicly.

My interest still stands. Somethings up I still reckon?

Could be - though could simply relate to whether JVR has got over his injury, or similar.

Fair enough, I presumed people were talking about the delay in announcing team selection.

But are they actually taking an extra 24hours compared to normal? Or is it simply 24hours later given the game is on Monday and captains run will be on Sunday?

The delay doesn't make sense unless you read Caroline Wilson's article for The Age. The context was, Goody agreed to do an interview after Thursday's match committee meeting. He mentioned to Caro that the committee hadn't made a number of tough selection decisions, and he had told them to sleep on it for 24hrs and they would come together again to discuss.

So, it seems it is 24hrs later than they had planned. But given the game is on Monday they had that 24hrs extra.

Isn't that all the more reason to do something.  Doesn't have to be official cheer squadn action, surely?

Anything we do as a group is considered official cheer squad activity. We have to abide by the AFL rules - every cheer squad does - or risk steep fines.

[censored] that. Rather give me money to the Augusta National for spectator entry fees, or any of the Open courses.

And people laugh off conspiracy theories

It was one thing to go through the experience of watching Gus get ironed out, losing by a whisker and then being abused by pies supporters after the siren when they won anyway.

It was icing on the cake sitting next to the AFL marketing team at lunch in a restaurant the following day. Their complete focus was not on the final series but how they could leverage maximum value for their commercial partners. I appreciate that's their job but seriously, half of them didn't even watch the whole game the night before.

It really turned me off going to AFL games completely.

Still love the game, local footy and the Dees, but I'm not up for the whole bombastic BS they offer.

Go Dee's and love ya Gus

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
