Grass is relatively spongey at Alice. Will take a bit out of the players and if anything favour Freo who play on similar surfaces. If we had the money as a club I would have been over there Tuesday for afternoon training but that was not to be.

Need to kick accurately and win the midfield battle.

It's a 50/50 game.

Had it been in Melbourne (Docklands probably) it would have been a shade under 60/40 our way.

It will be a tough game but one we need to win.

Freo play on Optus which is notoriously hard deck, so the surface is not similar

I'm amazed how hard the ground at optus is given how new the ground is.

It also often looks very patchwork

Cant be great for dockers and eagles players.

IIRC, when the G first went to grass on a concrete base ir was also too hard for a period of time.

Docklands was also rock hard I  it's first few seasons- and in addition often had large areas of shifting turf.

I would have thought the technology and practice would have improved by the time optus was built.

McAdam is going to have a breakout soon. Kossie loves having him in the side and hopefully the coaches will develop that in a positive manner. At the moment our forwards need some choreography, we looked better in the game where Petty was higher up the field.  I suspect Fritta is getting a bit cramped.

I was wondering during the saints game if Kossie was trying to target McAdam a bit too much instead of best option.

In the Alice today the forecast is 28 degrees and partly cloudy.

Big drop of rain (up to 30mm) coming tommorow.

So if it was ever going to he humid it would be today.

The forecast is for only 35% humidity.

By way of contrast, today's  forecast for Melbourne is Max 21 degrees, and like in the Alice, rain is forecast for tommorow, albeit a lot less (up to 8mm).

The forecast is for 46% humidity here.

Our game on Sunday starts at 1pm. Perfect start time as it gets cold in the Alice once the sun starts going down.

And I assumeit  gets very dewy on sunny days like it will be on Sunday. Sunset is at 5:56 pm, so a good two and a bit hours after the game finishes.

Absolutely perfect conditions for footy:

TURNER AINT A FORWARD JEFFO OR BROWN ARE!

With due respect, really? Surely Brown is cooked. 'Break glass in case of emergency' at best. If he's not kicking goals we are playing one short. He can only play one position.  Don't get me wrong. He's been a great player but no longer. As for Jefferson I'll be flabbergasted if he's selected based pretty much on one decent performance.  It was a few short weeks ago that almost all and sundry were calling him a bust a la Lucas Cook. He is not ready. Whilst not ideal Turner at least provides versatility, gets to the contest and is mobile. 3 goals a few games ago was impressive. Down the track I'm in the Tomlinson camp to try forward. Having said all of this I reckon Petty will come up. 8 day break until the Pies then the bye. Love to see him recapture the Geelong form. Still think he's underdone.

I’m sure if this is a problem it’ll be addressed by the people whose perception of it matters. 👍🏽

After Tmac's recent reincarnation, I slightly more disposed to not writing off anyone.

Maybe Bbb still has some great footy left in him like Tmac has been showcasing of late .

Rather have Melks for finals than McAdam

For a start Turner has been injured, he won't be an auto selection before some Casey time, other than those 3 goals did very little!

Also Petty is horribly out of form and on a three possession game you still want to play him??? Nar not in my book anyway!

It will be fascinating to see how Melks fares when he returns. He's been running and training for some time now so should have the tank (in theory). Question is does he come back with steely grit and determination or wanting for motivation.

My guess with Jake is steely grit and determination, which would be an amazing addition for our last 6-10 games!

Obviously he's a lot shorter, but he could play that defensive forward role that Petty has been doing, dragging their KPPs up the ground to create options.  He also is a natural forward with great footy smarts.  At the very least he will do as much as Petty has, at the very most he will help our forward line immensely.

I actually think Turner is a really smart footballer.  He's also young, has built a tank, is athletic and agile.  He provides a lot more versatility than BBB, and will cause the oppo far more headaches.

Jefferson has had a couple of good games in the magoos but simply isn't ready.  Lets not do a Jack Watts to him, but give him time to develop.

McAdam really needs to get his act together before Melksham becomes available.  If he does there will be some very nice selection dilemmas.

I would think, given that he could justifiably have  just retired after he did his ACL towards the twilight of his career, saying thanks for the memories, but instead chose to labour on, he will come back full of fire and enthusiasm in a last bid for that elusive flag.   Bring it on Melks.

Traeger Park is usually a quite hard surface, though a bit of rain several days out may soften it a little, but it could never (2023 excepted) be regarded as soft.

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
