Pre-Game food and drink

Recommended Posts

Hey Legends

Im sure there is already a thread about this.

Where are some good places to have a drink and a bit to eat before the game, coming in from Lilydale so keen to get in a little early.

Preferably closeish to the G so i dont gave too far to run after squeezing "one more" in.

I had dinner at Missymu by Shirley in the MCC last week. The beauty of this restaurant is that you get a reserved seat on Level 2 as part of your booking which is handy, especially come the bigger crowd games. Food was good albeit the options were either a $75 set menu or $95 set menu. The biggest sting however was $15.50 for a stubby of Asahi!

Plenty of good pubs on Swan Street. If you get there early (5-5.30) you could possibly get a walk in, but they can get busy and crowded which sometimes isn't the most comfortable for eating.

Corner Hotel is a classic but probably the busiest of them all. The Posty does good pizzas, but small so it gets crowded. Richmond Social isn't as nice as those two, but has the most room for a comfy bite to eat inside - you should be able to book a table now. London Tavern is another that gets busy but it's great.

If you can be bothered to leave a bit earlier, try a pub a few stops away. Prahran Hotel and College Lawn are both minutes walk from Prahran station, which is two stops from Richmond.

Kingston Hotel has great food and just 10 minute walk to the G, but you usually need to book in advance on game days. The Mt View is also ok, though the food is not as good as the Kingston, but easy to find a table over their 3 levels.

I wonder if Roule Galette is still any good? Been a long time since I've been able to get there. Tiny little creperie in a side lane coming off Flinders Lane, in between Swanston & Degraves.

You can get a handy little takeaway crepe 'cone' and munch on the walk down to the 'G.

I wouldn't mind a thread like this being pinned. Always a handy reference when making the trip down. We have been given some good tips but haven't branched away from the CBD yet.

For the final v blues last year we lucked into a Japanese restaurant called Robata. Could see the MCG from our table and watch as the crowd going past build up. Good food, happy wife, good beer and wine, really good Sake!! Many Dees supporters in there so obviously not a secret, but excellent find to us.

Robata is excellent- been there a couple of times, never pre game though

We stumbled across it by accident (we were following some Dees supports to get to the G). Luckily got a table without a booking and really enjoyed it.

Mrs Right Foot loved her fish, and I loved that I could stare at the G and absorb the pre game atmosphere and build up.

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
